Sportsgirl is a fun and dynamic place to work for women of all ages, it works to maintain a great, inclusive, supportive, friendly and non-competitive workplace culture where the absence of individual KPI's and a customer-service grounded approach to retail eliminates the usual underlying sense of hostility and in-house competition that a lot of retailers suffer from when it comes to the morale of their employees. Your team is just that, a team - and this has been one of the things that I have valued most about working within the company. 

The opportunity to progress through the company is absolutely encouraged, with a preference to hire internally where possible to offer this to employees where they seek to move between positions, advance into management roles or drop back into part-time or causal roles. 

Sportsgirl is brand that has been around for a long time, and with the increased presence of a large range of multi-national retailers within Australia, there's something to be said for their need to play catch-up with the benefits and features offered by other retailers among both consumers and staff which make them a destination online, in-store and as an employee of the brand. The management perks are few, the pay is average for part-time, full-time and management staff, and its processes for day to day tasks are in desperate need of updating to make things like stocktake, returns, rewards and incentives and customer service a smoother and more competitive experience among other retailers and staff alike.

There were some great benefits to working here. You got a lot of breaks, most co-workers were really nice, it's a great introduction to working in retail but as a Christmas casual I had a few issues.

Towards the end of my contract in January (after the Christmas rush), I only worked 5-10 hours a week, and even then some of my shifts were shortened/ cut because the store wasn't busy enough, with only one day notice. Christmas casuals had to get their bags checked before leaving the store, while permanent staff didn't. Some managers also acted suspicious of the Christmas casuals and kept unnecessarily checking in on us when we were sorting stock. This was very disheartening. 

They also strongly encourage you to wear sportsgirl clothes and give you a discount, but when the clothes go on sale they were much cheaper than if we bought them full price with our staff discount, which was annoying as Sportsgirl was basically making a profit off of us buying our uniforms.

i had the best job at sportsgirl pacific fair after so many years of being a sales assistant and then having been given the opportunity to be the stock administrator for the gold coast with sportsgirl i loved going to work every day on a fulltime basis, i had fantastic hours that suited me so then i could continue to work in the night in hospitality. My day at work was arriving in the morning and printing out everything that had been sold it was my role to restock all the stock sold, all the markdowns, checking on floor if all sizes were on display and changing mannequins. I learnt so much in this role and i was very good at my job with the way things were run stock coming in and splitting stock and definatley learning the system and helping others from other stores with questions etc. i was the manager of this position overseen by my manager of the store. To be honest my job was not hard it was just very busy everyday doing all the things that required me to do as a stock administrator. I love being involved with the stock area within a company. the most enjoyable part of my job was i was the manager of my job i worked alone and i was in control of my area i had great hours in which suited me and when i was not busy and had completed my job i would help down on the floor with customer service sales assistant

Made some great girlfriends over the years at the store I worked at however managers always played favourites and higher-up management were even worse. Lots of pressure, gossip and drama. Though I loved receiving the bigger staff discount at work meetings and styling customers. 

Always opening and closing the store without being paid extra despite being required to arrive earlier/finish later. The clothes and jewellery were often faulty or would arrive covered in mould. Hard to sell their items when you don't like them yourself.

A fun job on the side while young and studying but if its your foot in the door to the fashion industry or its a job you want to take more seriously then its not so easy to let the bad stuff slide. Would also not recommend this workplace to impressionable young girls. Unfortunately you need extra thick skin to survive.

A day at sportsgirl would be helping customer to find the right items of clothing that fit them and make them feel positive about their selfs, its not just about the clothing but we like our customers to feel as if they could be running the world, with our beauty products, jewellery, hats, bags we like to dress our sportgirl head to toe so they feel on top of the world and have a positive out look of life. I learned how to communicate with customers and get to know them in such a short amount of time to help them find what they are after. The management is always friendly and positive. The job is nice and relaxing the hardest part would be when is gets busy around Christmas time, when customers are looking for presents. My favourite part of the job would have to be the clothes being able to dress up every day for work wearing your you want to express who you are.

Management was awful and toxic! So much unnecessary stress was put onto staff from store manager even if you only had a 3 hour shift. Store manager would be on their phone all day long just scrolling on social media and will gossip about other works to staff. Very unprofessional! Job security was terrible for casuals as they only get 3 hours a week. Extra lunch cover shifts were given to part timers rather than casuals who had barely any hours. If you’re a part timer and you wanted to take annual leave (and gave plenty of notice) store manager would be annoyed at you for weeks and gossip about you to other staff members. The job was easy but very unfulfilling and there’s not room to grow in the company. Save the stress and don’t work work here.

A typical shift at Sportsgirl was fun but also challenging. The shifts range anywhere from 4-7 hours for casual assistants, which meant I could be on my feet for a long time. Further, when the store became busy, it was a challenge to make sure customers were being served but various jobs were still getting done. Despite this, the shifts were always fun because of the other girls who worked there. Help was always around if necessary, and there was no such thing as a stupid question! The management was just as supportive as the other staff. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to enjoy helping customers with picking clothes and outfits.

Sportsgirl was one of my favourite jobs! I was lucky enough to manage 3 of their stores and loved every second. I made a great amount of friends and built strong professional relationships with managers. 
2 issues - 
The lack of progression opportunities once at store manager. The Regionals stay in their roles for 10+ years which shows good culture however leaves little to no opportunity for managers. 

The salary did not show any value for their employees. From running a tiny store to a top tier store, the pay increase was so minimal and extremely devaluing. Even after being so successful at lifting revenue, lowering retention and building great culture, nothing make them budge on this and it made me feel really unappreciated 

The job was great when I first started - My manager was amazing and then as time went on things changed. I got transferred stores and I quickly learnt once you had done what the company wanted they would treat you like a number again. I care took a store for 3 months and got no extra money for being manager during that time nor did I receive a thank you from the PM at the time. After working there over 3 years I never received a thank you or good luck from the PM. All other girls and management were great except certain individual higher up management. 

A typical day of work consisted of greeting customers, ensuring products are intact and to maintain stock management and appearance. In this environment, we were able to learn skills of communication in simple and complex situations to both customers and team members. 

Overall, the Sportsgirl workplace environment was mostly relaxed, with peak periods speeding up the pace of work. A difficult aspect of the job was time management, meanwhile the most enjoyable part would be engaging with customers and keeping visible stock presentable.
