Clients are okay, some are very understanding and approachable and some are very grumpy and very perfectionist.

Work routine will take time to familiarise due to unique person to person routine which is fair enough. 

Management with low regard to support workers working their arsh off.
They are very nice to clients but again low regard to carers.

You will not have enough work with them just short shifts like 2-3 hours. Atleast in my case.  

Company not willing to pay for the breaks so you end up just working with 1 client in a day (2-4 hours) long shift if you are lucky. You can work less than the required gap only if you sign waver so they dont have to pay you for the breaks…

What kind of a company is that? 😅

Many co workers and myself decided to look for another company (all of them are pretty much the same) but atleast other company pay you so much more for your time and pays you for the breaks as long as you willing to work. 

Support worker pay is $26.16 p/h
Casual loading pay is $6.54 p/h
 Ordinary hour total is $ 32.70


Very good culture, extremely organised when it comes to rostering and ensuring all shifts are filled. Client-centred with great empathy for the challenges PSWs face. Skills training provided yearly. Would suit a nursing student or similar. Lots of learning opportunities.

Supposed to have six-monthly meetings amongst care team but only had one in the eighteen months I worked there. Living in a less populated area meant there was not a huge number of clients so eventually I had to get a second job, and limited options also meant I had to tolerate abuse from certain clients. Eventually decided to work solely for a different organisation as it serviced a larger range of disabilities over a broader geographical area.

Working with clients including working with DVA clients to help with domestic assistance

My supervisor cut my clients flow and I was on a salary what created a financial issue what end up in my job termination.
The supervisor and clinical manager did not explore my strenghts appropriate. 
I learned that any little issue must be reported to save your reputation.
The clients have a heavy emotional load and they take in the health workers a lot .
The company disregard this aspect in the new staff that are still adapting to complex clients.
The company ask for specialisation levels from me but my pay rate was  below the lowest pay point in the company and in the area.
The enjoyable part was the clients complementing me for good results .


Spinal Life Australia is a very enjoyable workplace. This entirely depends on the house/client you are with. Some staff can be cranky, but management handles that very well and addresses all arising issues immediately and effectively. My experience was wonderful as I got a 100% full support from CSO's and management. Spinal Life Australia also offers career advancement. Lots to learn and they train you which cut down a lot of stress.  Five Stars to Spinal Life Australia. I recommend this organization to anyone. 

Working in my current position has been a great learning experience, I have learnt many things since working within this position. I have learnt a vast deal on spinal injuries and have learnt many great skills as well, such as; bladder washouts, peg feeding, colostomy care, stoma site care, SPC care, trachea care, mouth suctioning, trachea catheter suctioning, passive exercising and chest physio. All of these skills now accompany the other skills that I have gained through uni and vocational placements.

They offer discount training and certification which is great. Good for a single person or someone without children as they reward you for your flexibility monetarily. They're in desperate need of workers and you do need to have a pretty thick skin with some clients. The managers try to be very supportive. Sometimes the immediate work training is a little under done and they could address that better especially when you have clients with mental health issues. Often there's only one person with a client when there should be two. Can be hard on your back.

Provide care or domestic services determined by a personalised care plan. Routine tasks, require time management skills, and work place health and safety requirements, including use of specialised equipment and skills training including no lift requirements, and safe work practices.

My work is strickly private between the clients and the support worker such as myself in this role.

In a days work in my role at the moment is a personal support worker, duties include making meals for the client/ clients clean up around the clients home, helping in the bathroom and toilet if needed shopping for the clients food and taking the client to the doctors or appointments.

assist clients with daily living activities, and provide help in domestic duties such as cleaning cooking and general household activities and community access services that the individual recquires.  Ability to work well with others providing physical and personal support.
