Sparrow Early Learning Centre

The main management of Sparrow are very supportive and easy to talk to. Unfortunately my immediate manager was not so supportive. A typical day was, as all childcare centres are challenging, trying to do paperwork and interact with the children. Sparrow have a good philosophy on observations that we only do them for the special moments and that sometimes some children may not have one for the month. We were given 2 hours of non contact time for programming each week however as usual never enough time to complete the work so needed to work at home quite often. Sparrow do encourage staff with there employee of the month and reward them through this. They also have surveys for staff on a regular basis which you can win prizes. Overall not a bad company to work for just a stressful industry.

Time off the floor for all educators to get a opportunity to do some observations 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Inclusive to everyone and encourages culture diversity in and around the environments 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Start with family grouping, helping with meal time routines, nappies, engaging with parents and children,  encouraging children to self help, supporting other educators, sleep routines, supervision, feed back to the families, observations, activities children are interested in.

I loved working at sparrow.
learned so much more than any other childcare center because of their monthly professional development night meetings.
The director and 2 IC of browns plains were awesome.
I just didn't get any career bump ups. As I wanted to be permanent but that wasn't what they wanted, and they didn't have any spots for me at the time.
the workplace culture at browns plains sparrow was alive and they were a family. I got to be a part of that for a little bit(year), while I was there.
 I DONT recommend working at Yarrabilba. Toxic workplace. horrible working there

the children at the end of the day at browns plains were the best part about the job.
The children were the only part of the job at Yarrabilba that I loved seeing.



They had management turn over and the new centre manager and 2 IC could not care less about their staff. 
Promised PD’s and reimbursements but you get nothing for your hard work - not even acknowledgement, just as long as you turn up to work they don’t care
They also show favouritism especially to their friends they hire 
Ratio is always off! This has caused children to be harmed. Becomes extremely stressful as they try and blame you for this even though they are the ones in charge of rosters 
They try and dust any and all conflict under the rug, it is never really solved 
None of their set ups are actually meaningful they only do it for social media content 

It was always busy too many children not enough educators when I was there. My contract was 4 days a week but on my second week they were asking me every week if I could work another day and extending my hours without telling me from 5 to 9 hours a day (only was supposed to work 5 because I was individual support nothing else) but settled for 7 hours and they shouldn’t have hired me for the job I have no disability experience and I was made to work extra hours because they didn’t have to pay me as much. Remember what u said and when u said it when working here sorta toxic I was also told uniform was free then I order the one I wanted they told me I couldn’t get it and I had to order another then tried to make me pay for it

I absolutely love being a part of the Sparrow Family! The leadership team are super supportive, my colleagues are fantastic and the focus is where it should be...with the children!

I really enjoy my jobs, always feel a lot of job satisfaction as I help and support the people I come into contact with everyday.  I have formed some beautiful friendships with the families I have cared and supported over the years that continue to this day.  I problem solve everyday, support others and am always there for my team mates for advice in work and private areas.  I always put in 100% effort and sometimes find myself doing more work at home to benefit the children/aged I care for.

I had a good experience with an excellent manager. I regret moving on from this company. The company provided good training with well informed Ed leaders. The company supported and encouraged lots of community engagements. Would definitely recommend to others. 

Kids are so lovely!! The staffs are great, always willing to help when in need and they care for each other, it is a family at work thing! Always ready for dress up - any reason to dress up they'll do it. Loves to eat and party even in the yard!!
