Southern Cross has by far changed my Mentality about aged care in general. The theory part of studying certificate III in aged care create a lot of imagination that gets one confused or thinking twice but day one of my placement changed all this. The environment is so clean and organised it makes you feel welcomed and want to work there. The co-workers are humble and kind to help you with the do's and don'ts so you cant find yourself in trouble. They guide you step by step till you gain confidence to work in any situation.its like everyone know what they are supposed to do and what time and the fact that everyone is kind to the other helping out where necessary makes it a less tiresome day and you tend to create friends as you work daily. however the hardest part of the the job comes in when dealing with residents with critical dementia who are arrogant and keep shouting out.you however get used to the cases are learn ways to comfort them. the availability of counseling sessions is also helpful when one feels overwhelmed.the handover sessions is the enjoyable part of the job as you listen to whatever awaits you on duty that day and the break sessions when you just rest your legs.In general working as a career is productive and fun.

Typical day at southern cross care for me was to attend to the a.m shift of 7am to usually 3pm. 
I would be responsible for approx 7 to 9 elderly residents living in a secure setting helping to manage their every personal need, their welfare, their day to day nursing requirements as would be communicated to me via handovers,enrolled nurses, clinical nurses, registered nurses and doctors orders.
This environment is fast paced with much time management required to for see the abovementioned  tasks.
Good physical health is paramount when applying ones self as a personal care worker, as well as good communication both in person and in documentary systems.
The hardest part of the job is physical, it can also be mentally draining, as you are dealing with end of life nursing, palative care, terminally ill residents etc.
the best part of the job is knowing that i was apart of the comfort and continual care of a beloved family member, I assisted in the daily attention required to make a day count for this special individual whilst providing comfort and security in welfare to residents family members, their friends and associates.

I enjoyed my time working with Southern Cross Care. I grew, not just professionally but personally as well. During my time, I found the company to be open to my opinions and requests; resulting in being given opportunities for career development, leadership and training positions.
Changes in management always took time for a resettlement  amongst staff and residents, but it does eventually happen.
Hardest part of the job was keeping up with changes to paperwork; a constant upgrading, but that is a good thing.
The most enjoyable part was working and spending time with the residents; seeing them making changes in their own lives; the smiles of self-belief on their faces.

a typical day at work included making the clients in the hospis/nursing home feel comfortable to the best of my ability. This meant I needed to wash them frequently, provide them with food water and medication. This job taught me to communicate with a wide range of people including the elderly, disabled and collegues. The management team enforced good procedures that most staff followed. The hardest part of my job would definitely have to of been building relationships with people and knowing that they will soon come to an end. The most enjoyable part was being able to put a smile on the patients faces and trying to make every last minute as joyful as possible for them.

Life was made enjoyable by having great staff member to work with and the support was awesome. Steve was exceptional. 
Daily we would be getting people out of bed.
Showering or washing
getting people dressed and to breakfast
Ensuring linen was regularly changed
Attending to personal hygiene such as toileting and shaving
preparing clients for the day ahead and going out
help with the organised activities such as painting and special events in the main hall
Feeding and providing fluids clients that require extra attention
Enjoyed working with clients in the Memory Assistance Unit
You know you are making a big change in their daily lives

What is the best part of working at the company?
Well structured, good training and development, great supportive environment and opportunities to branch out 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
As a casual EN I was sometimes short of work.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I found it both positive and supportive. Management we're always approachable. CST team were amazing 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Generally very busy from go to work. Help available if needed, collaborative team mates. Loved it even on difficult days

The work environment is stressful from the get go. You could be someone new on the floor with agency staff. Management are unsupportive and have groups that if you aren't apart of you aren't anything. Management blame staff for poor time management rather than solving the staffing problem. Quit due to professional growth and to prevent the risk of injury, and toxic work environment. Be aware. Anyone will throw you under the bus to save themselves.

I thoroughly enjoyed  my time working here.I mainly worked with residents with Dementia.I loved caring and communicating with all. There were a lot of courses that were presented to you and most were certified.I completed many corses to grow my knowledge and understanding of my work requirements and to help with making work easier for myself,and more comfortable for the clients.Manual handling was always being reviewed.Help was there working also with the Physiothereapist,who would pass on vital information to care for residents.A truly rewarding job.

Age care work is busy from start of shift to finish. We have issues but as a supervisor we often worked them out. Critical thinking often is needed to explain my point. I am well like by my co-worker, often a carers clap there hand with a big smile when they know I am on duty. The job can be very hard at times but is manageable and at the end of the day, we thank its other for a good shift. When payday comes we all seems  to compare each others lives and have a good laugh. Managers are supported and easy to voice complaints.

Good working environment in different wards , some better then others buddy system worked well and enjoyed my placement there.I learn't that you need abit of patience , understanding but at he end of the day i walked out with a smile due to if you respect the clients they respect you.Hardest part would of been that not everyone is the same and must be able to adjust appropiately. Management could of been abit more organized with communication , in general it worked well
