Smart City Vocational College

My experience with Smart City Vocational College was over all pleasant. Unfortunately due to the company focusing on campuses in Queensland we lacked the resources to make the campus profitable and was forced to close down in December 2015.
A typical day was talking to students and making them feel at ease about there studies and trying to keep them motivated, I would also help problem solve with other staff members and update student files. These daily tasks enabled me to strengthen my skills to liaise with all types of cultural backgrounds and computer skills when using Microsoft packages. On a weekly basis I would have a meeting with my campus manager to go over any policy or procedure changes so that I could pass these onto the other staff members. When recruiting staff members we tried to get people that had similar work ethics and bright personalities to ensure a pleasant working environment. The hardest part of the job was the lack of resources we had to try and sell to potential students. Without these much needed resources, it made the job harder for our sales staff which then created negativity within the sales group and a high turn around of staff. The most enjoyable part was the working environment within the office and the weekly interaction I had with the students that came into the campus.

A typical day at Smart City there was often never a dull moment.  We had a good variety of cultures all round and learned how to work and be with each other regardless of our differences.  It would be fair to say Senior Management was often questioned but learned to work through both advantages and disadvantages which made myself and other work colleagues stronger in our environment.  We were given intensive training and support we needed to develop good workmanship, professionalism and be able to truly distinguish and discuss our strengths and how we can develop our weaknesses that would stop us from moving forward not only as an individual but as a team.  Very empowering.  Although it was highly intensive at times I definitely learned how to be self motivated and remain positive throughout my day.  Most enjoyable part of the job was fun activities, being able to share have free lunch gatherings flash work space environment was always something to look forward to and last but not least we cared for each other and was often always happy. At Smart City it was a very challenging job everyday no day was the same having being made to sit in a shopping centre and talk to people each and everyday some day felt the same others where different I learned in my time within the company that you take every chance you get and you go for it and self motivation and drive was my everyday go to and I couldn't get by with making myself happy during the day and keeping myself in a good mindset so my team could and my managers and everybody surrounding me could also do the same. The most challenging part would be letting my goals down and myself down cause by doing this we do also to our teams!

Worked in a team environment & communicated well with co-workers. Engaged with my students, and assisted them with resolving problems, and created new ideas for studying. Attended community workshops, and implemented new training ideas. The hardest part was leaving my students, but knew that they would be in very capable hands. The most enjoyable part of my job, was when my students graduated, and that I was there to help them achieve there goal.

Smart City Vocational College, was a faced paced working environment. It had a strong focus on innovation and product development. The greatest strength in the organisation was it's people teams worked hard and demonstrated adaptability in a changing business environment.

Working at Smart City as a course advisor is a challenging but rewarding job. From talking to people in shopping centres, to sitting down in campus with potential students discussing academic pathways and future careers, to enrolling students into diplomas best suiting their goals and ambitions.

I loved my colleagues and would never get stressed as they were there to pick me up and carry the burden of kpi commitments.

The whole RTO industry in Australia is in turmoil with the government changes made last year (2016) which makes it hard for all involved.

The people I directly worked with were great, upper management not so much. Communication from the top was sorely lacking.

Would travel around Australia and have everything payed for except for food and gas. Many benefits and good salaries in our department. Fun and easy going management.

Working at Smart City College was an amazing experience for me show my Sales and leadership skills. Smart City vocational college had an ongoing training programs for both management and sales consultants which were done twice a month.
