As someone who has worked at this company for a period of time, I feel it's important to share my thoughts on the work environment. To put it bluntly, I wouldn't recommend anyone working here unless they're comfortable with not having much of a personality, being micro-managed, and receiving very little support.

One of the biggest issues I've encountered is the lack of freedom to be myself. The company culture seems to discourage individuality, and there's a pressure to conform to a certain way of doing things. As a result, I often feel like I have to suppress my true self in order to fit in. This can be exhausting and demotivating, and I imagine it would be difficult for many people who value their individuality and creativity.

In addition to this, the management style is quite rigid and controlling. There's very little room for autonomy, and everything is closely monitored and scrutinized. This can be frustrating for those who prefer to have more control over their work and decisions.

Finally, I've found that there's a lack of support and resources available to employees. This can make it difficult to do your job effectively and feel like you're making a meaningful contribution to the company. Without adequate support, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and disengaged.

Overall, I think this company could be a good fit for some people, but not everyone. If you're comfortable with a highly structured, rigid environment and don't mind sacrificing your individuality, it might work for you. However, if you value creativity, autonomy, and support, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

I was so excited about starting at Services Australia as a Service Officer (SO) but am ready to quit.  I've been there 8 weeks.  Induction training is intensive and overwhelming (hours and hours of legislation) and we are expected to absorb and retain that information after one training session and to apply that information during phone calls with customers.  Management seem to forget that they were new employees once too.  Support from management was great, but is now non-existent.  Micromanaged to the minute.  Only support is from workmates.  Very "robotic" culture; almost like Stepford Wives.  Huge amount of pressure to perform better and work harder.  Expected to get tasks completed, and decisions made, with 100% accuracy, in an unrealistically short timeframe.  Taking calls from customers is my favourite part of the job because I'm dealing with real people and trying to help them, which can be very rewarding, but also very difficult as so many of them want to vent about the situation they are in.  You do learn to "shut off" and just focus on following procedure and to not get too caught up in the human side of things.  So many people quit during training; says it al really.

The recruitment process is extreme, even if you do get into a 'talent pool' you will only get selected if you are a Mgmnt friend or have relatives there.
The training is haphazard and you can beg for all the support and help and the team leaders just tell you to trust the process.
You never get honest answers.
The forced casual status is purgatory and the selection process for permanent work is not transparent.
The centre is run by a girl squad that are all unapproachable and don't waste their time on anything relating to culture unless it is a band aid solution.
People are leaving by the droves, the ones that manage to make it through training, some people are staying because there are no options in a regional area and the Mgmnt know that and that's why they are such horrible people. Every day there is someone having a breakdown and the best that Mgmnt do is give a phone number to call an outsourced company. 
Nobody wants to fix the culture. People that have transferred in say it is the worst centre in the country for culture.

High bullying levels from management, Team Leaders & colleagues, very strict adherence to rostered hours and breaks in a highly unpredictable work environment where each customer has different needs and require differing amounts of your time. Work/life balance is almost non-existent now, severely understaffed & the poorest standards of training I’ve ever experienced. Staff at APS 4 or lower are treated as poorly as their customers. A very unrealistic work environment with extremely high levels of personal and stress leave and extremely poor job satisfaction.

This is from a back of house position in IT. The review will vary considerably from a front of house employee. 

Great place to work with reasonable pay. Union makes sure working conditions are always of the higher quality compared to other organisations. Great job security being a Government job.

You could get unlucky with your team. If they have a terrible team culture, there's not much you're going to be able to do about it unless you are in a management position. 

Sometimes there is a lot of red tape and it can be a hassle to go through the processes which can hinder meeting deadlines. Some of the senior management won't understand this reality and can add a bunch of stress on you and your team. 

I started as a graduate and worked my way up to a Director position and look back on the whole time positively.

Most stressful is time factors on first contact, customers not reading letters and providing correct information or even knowing what they need. Its surprising how many people have no idea about their own finances

Typical day same as the last with different scenarios.depending if customers know what they need and provide appropriate documentation

Some really nice helpful people.

Lack of training and expectation of completing your role without it!

Toxic, poor management.  Team Leaders not trained in  relevant areas but leading teams! 
If your face fits you’re fine otherwise your overlooked and others with no knowledge promoted to tick boxes!

You’re like a robot at primary school.
Micromanaged by people who have no knowledge of relevant areas.

My role required me to be flexible to ensure team objectives and competing priorities be delivered. I learned something new every day and tried new things regularly to challenge myself to develop in my role. Management are supportive of individuals going outside the box and trying something and supported you weather or not it was successful or not. The culture at the moment is excellent and relaxing because the trust placed on staff to do their job and learn from experience. My job is not hard and i enjoy what i have been doing and the people in my team which makes it easy to come to work.

I have thought long and hard about writing  this review but feel  future  staff need to know that it's not a healthy  environment  to work in.
Training  is fine until you finish the theory  part.Once you progress onto the phones you have limited  support
.Team leaders are so n8ce to start off with them they start to nit pick your your .The feedback from senior staff is meant to be helpful so you can move forward .The feedback is demoralising. 
The team leaders promise support but you get nothing .Really take a long hard look before you jump into it .

Pros - fair salary package including great superannuation, wellbeing is crucial and they provide plenty of breaks, learning and development opportunities to build new skills, growth opportunity, friendly workplace, great team culture and colleagues, supports in place, rewarding knowing you are helping customers and the community whether big or small.
Cons - micromanagement depending on your position, can be stressful at times, overwhelmed with high volume calls and lack of staff, some workers/team leaders can come across as on power trips.
