I’m an old employee at Sealy Australia and used to work over in Queensland Bedding. The work was terrible in all sections and you don’t get treated with respect there from the bosses and some workers. It was a bad environment to work in and to top it off, staff were underpaid for the work you’d be doing. Very basic benefits like majority of workplaces around and I would never refer my family or friends to work there ever. If you’re working in the factory, there’s a very high chance that you’ll won’t advance at this place. The only two pros I could think of is that Sealy caters their staff with Christmas lunches every year as well as cheap specials at the canteen. Apart from that, I wouldn’t recommend working here unless you don’t mind being controlled of and thrown around.

Initially I was excited to be working for a big corporate company. 

I found them awful to work for, very clicky and have a "better than you" attitude. The salary is terrible for what they expect from you and if you have not come from the bedding industry then you will find it really hard to fit in with these tossers! 

Don't expect a promotion quickly as it seems that no one ever leaves and are part of the furniture. A lot of dead wood to clear out!

And don't try and go the extra mile as you will be told to slow down as you will only make other team members look bad as they don't do anything. 

On the day-to-day, work was pleasant and middle management is supportive and committed. It is difficult to progress beyond middle management though, specially if you don't conform, i.e. unless you celebrate everything the executive team proposes and don't challenge their standing believes. 
The senior leadership is very conservative and set in their ways, not supportive of different perspectives or willing to explore new possibilities. I was very disappointed and decided to leave.

working is 90% consulting 10% admin. 

Talking to customers and processing new orders is always enjoyable. Dealing with floor stock is not. Sealy management is amazing, its usually the host store that has management issues.

Sealy of Australia is one of the most friendly workplaces.  The staff are looked after extremely well.  The management staff from the owner of the company to the GM's make the company a great place to work.

A typical day at work would require mattress frames to be made and checked for shipment around Australasia. To be able to complete running repairs and be able to challenge myself with different problem solving skills while working on the machines was my favourite part.

I think the management do care about the family of the employees. So it is very rare to see people being sacked. This company is expanding and heading towards the international market so it won't be affected by the domestic economic downturn.

Sealy treats their employees unfair and also have alot of attitude towards their employees, they demand a ridiculous amount of work for such a small amount per hour.

I really don't recommend working here if you're after job security.
