I have never felt so scared by the practices I witnessed in this work place. Industrially, several full time staff were working second jobs and at least one was expected to work up 3 pay grades but was never paid higher duties. The interview process was onerous for no good reason. You had to regularly check your pay to make sure it was accurate as often it wasn’t if you were in timesheets. There is a culture of lying. Looks are more important than substance in your job. The practices there were scary but when concerns were escalated, they were ignored. It was more important that notes looked uniform rather than the contents of the notes ie that work was not being done as it should be.  After several months, I still haven’t recovered psychologically from the harm this company caused me and I’m looking at leaving the industry after 20 years. This organisation is not worth destroying yourself for and it will destroy you.   

My job was to provide safe and engaging night-time activities for at risk children and young people (mainly Aboriginal) in one Perth's metro area in Western Australia, leading a team of 8-10 other youth workers. I was responsible for the execution of the program including planning, implementation, evaluation, administration, staff roster and program logistic. I was also responsible to develop and maintain stakeholder relationship.

The role as Team Leader gave me the chance to use the tool of non formal education with youth at risk whilst we were running our activities. Basically the young people attending the program were learning about communication, leadership, self esteem and other values by playing role game or sport.

Everything was amazing during the time I was working here and this was due to the time we spent on building a strong team where each other respect and valorization of our roles was important.

Participation and discipline of the young people was hard to keep, but it all went weel, as I had a great team working with me. I was supported by an amazing managment as well.

Having volunteers respond to my adverts and hiring them for shops .
I learned how people are so helpful and caring especially caring for the needs of children around the world.The management were very caring and understanding they were very help full, in areas I was not sure. I would attend work shops with other organization. The work place culture was to aim to help the needs of children. The hardest part was when volunteers have disputes among themselves and you have to settle  them.It was  changeling but always managed to solve the problem. When the shops did well in the sales and budgets were made, was a very good and exciting.I met different types of people with different cultures and backgrounds. I really enjoyed it very much I was given the responsibility to run the the office with my own discretion. Doing KPI was very changeling too.

This role with really opened up my knowledge to the retail industry and gave me the passion and experience to pursue further employment within the industry. I learned the process of opening and closing the shop, confirming cash amounts at the beginning of the day and balancing the till at the end of the day. I learned how to price items, use a cash register and EFT machine as well as the system they use for their point of sale. I was given the opportunity to train new people when they joined our team as well as advance my existing customer service skills and it was a very fulfilling role with multiple tasks to complete each shift. It was a very friendly environment, almost like creating a family within the team and interacting with other volunteers and customers as well as merchandising and making the store look appealing were definitely one of the most enjoyable parts of my job whilst volunteering there.

I joined saved the children to receive experience within the retail industry and to be able to find paid work down the track.
I come in say hello sign in and ask what would you like me to start with and then get on with it most of the time its getting the stock priced tagged and onto the floor for selling.
I have recently learnt how to tag price stock the shelves and how the shop operates.
The management he is great to work for if you have suggestions he is open to them to make the shop efficiently better.
There are a number of volunteers that come into the store to help we all seem to get on very well and interact while doing our work.
I dont find the job to be hard if you are not sure its better to ask someone and get the job right.
I find the job interesting and be able to learn new things so that you grow within yourself the people are very friendly and I seem to get on with everyone.

The workers at STC were ethical and compliant in their work environment and ensured each child's needs were attended to and there were an adequate amount of activities that explored each child's interests. At work placement we would acknowledge the rightful custodians of the land before we would commence our sessions and would start it off with a session with a game of soccer or touch football where workers, mentors and clients would participate. Our focus was creating activities that met the client's needs as well as addressing environmental disadvantage. The most enjoyable part of being a mentor was learning and seeing the client's achieve personal goals.

Amazing charity doing amazing things and I loved working there so much, only issue was management and lack of help from them including training and helping us to stay safe, they would say you don't have to work on your own if you don't feel comfortable but if I didn't the store wouldn't open.
I had to leave because my health was starting to suffer from the stress and how hard I was working, I was a volunteer so I didn't get paid which I didn't care about until I realised I needed to look after myself as well and pulling back hours was not an option for me.

I love Save The Children, I just wish I had a little more support from management.

it is very interesting when working for Save the children Australia since we dealing with international donors mostly and also working in an environment where we experience different cultures.

Everyday is a stressful day since time lines are very strict and require submission on time to donors and the management directors.

Otherwise, it is always fun to work with the people and also learning a lot from them.

The team is really helpful and we always have fun times and games during the weekends.

The people both customers and staff I consider it to be a fun and enjoyable environment and I get to work in the area I love ie the library section 😋

Dealing with the head office and some of the other staff that I don’t work with and difficult customers

I think it’s a fun environment at times. The radio plays, the air conditioning and heating is great
