the first few months was fun and enjoyable. i had quite good shifts that was according to my times as i was still a student. i would go into work with excitement as it was my first job. my day to day jobs was to complete the churro orders and when there was none, i would do the basic cleaning around the shop. when it was busy, sometimes the managers would tell to go help take the food out and to wait on the customers. i have VERY delighted to do that, as i would rather being a waitress than a cook. however after a couple of months i felt like i was being targeted by the old and more experienced managers, especially being the newest member, the shortest and the youngest, as they would order me around while they sat there talking or on their phones while there was a strict policy that we could not be on our phones at any time. the hardest part of the job was in peak hours and i was sometime told to cover 2 stations that with strained me from focusing on the 1 station especially during its busiest time and that would result in me being screamed and shouted at by the managers in completing a job that was very hard to fulfil perfectly especially for a new and younger member. the most enjoyable part of the job what the friends that i made, a large majority left before me after a new management came, but they are lifelong friends and still are. they made the jobs a bit more interesting and were my motivation to keep going on.

My overall experience with San Churros was very messy. Training and orientation days in the new store were very unorganised and we were running off schedule constantly. My first shifts were great in the new busy environment. As I was working more I noticed the managers were talking in other languages about customers and staff members and I had many days upset at work due to how I was being treated by my own mangers and fellow crew members. There were relationships between mangers and staff which are not appropriate in the work field, which caused many people to be picked on constantly and bullied by a staff member who felt they had more power due to having a relationship with the manager. I thought I'd found a job I was going to progress in for a long time. However,  majority the staff were soon cut off (were given no shifts, without being informed of what's happening), as the store became quite, and they hired too many staff.
After that happened contact with the managers was extremely hard to sort out the many issues I needed to discuss with them which I gained while I was working with them.
I was a teenager at the time and wasn't familiar in how to approach work related matters and the San churros management didn't show any interest in helping me understand, instead, they used that against me.

i used to love working at san churros but ever since the whole covid thing, the main operations (head office) lacked care and a sense of duty of care towards their staff members working at the stores. No care package whatsoever (masks, hand sanitiser) and we had to purchase it daily. there was a lack of care in terms of checking up on the health of the staffs and it is clearly evident its always 'business' rather than the care of their staffs. they dont take our comments into considerations and the sense of OH&S is shocking despite the feedback we have given to them.  

I understand during this period it is hard for business to survive as the economy is bad but they failed to acknowledge how hard the staff is working especially if they have to travel for work and working in areas that has a lot of people coming to and from. Hence it is only fair for staffs to be concerned about their health and safety but the response we got from head office is 'as long as you're doing the right thing'. 

the team, the staff, i have all developed strong connections and friendship with and theyre the only reason why I am still able to get through a shift.

At San Churro I ended up having different looking days each time I came in, simply because there are several jobs anyone can and has to do at any given time. Some shifts I would be making mainly coffees, others doing dessert dishes and sometimes just working the till or waiting.
It was a really good environment for learning the basics of a café job since you got to get experience doing all activities. 
Management was good in-store but the overall franchise works had some odd upselling techniques ect that you don't see in other cafés.
The culture was really good, ample time to talk and take things a bit slow and prep and other times fast-paced and stressful. It was pretty easy to so specific things that you enjoyed/were good at instead of 1 role all night.
Hardest part of the job was upselling and asking questions, the menu and experience of ordering there is quite annoying in my view - you ended up having to ask upwards of 6 questions per customer if they wanted even a basic order simply due to the upselling techniques management wanted and the complexity of the menu. The most enjoyable part was making the desserts and coffee though! I really liked being able to make chocolate strawberries and shakes ect.

San churro highpoint was a terrible environment to work in, especially as a first part time job. Not having prior experience in the work force I was unaware of how poorly I was actually treated. Most of the staff and employees were lovely, however the boss (who owns the store) was extremely rude and regularly degrades his young employees. He would get angry anytime someone made a minor mistake, as small as using a fresh cloth to wipe a table when "there were already dirty ones to use because cloths are expensive". He would not only regularly tell staff off, but would personally attack them, making remarks like "you never even try" and even swearing at staff, in some cases telling people they are "f***ing terrible." This kind of behaviour was very discouraging and emotionally abusive and I would not wish it upon anyone. It is bullying and no one deserves to be treated this disrespectfully and be demeaned in this manner by someone who holds a position of power over young people. I felt as though I could not say anything as he owned the store, and there was no one I could go to.
DO NOT WORK AT SAN CHURRO, YOU WILL BE ABUSED!!!!!!!!!

As team member San Churro, I have found it to be one of the most friendly work environments I have been in. (Specifically Joondalup). The store owner is super kind, patient and generous and there is a clear family like bond between the staff and owners/ managers. The customers are usually quite friendly as well which makes the experience overall more pleasant. It’s a good job if you hate the idea of being stuck in the one position all day, San churro is good as you’ll likely find yourself going between waitressing, churro making, barista, back of house, check out, shakes, etc. I can’t speak for all San Churros but I can say that San Churro Joondalup is a great place to start your career or for a place to secure a job. Only downside is poor pay as a young person as I have found I get taxed a lot, but that might change once I’m 18 or when I get rid of my other jobs. Recommend everyone comes to San Churro Joondalup and applies!

Such a toxic work environment. It's very cliquey and if you're outside of the group you get treated so poorly. Managers and other co-workers bully people all the time (saying mean comments to their face, texting about them behind their backs DURING the shift), and no one says anything because the people in power either don't care or they're the ones being nasty. No one faces consequences for their actions, so people think it's okay to treat other people like dirt. Nobody learns and nothing changes. I left many shifts crying. Had a massive effect on my mental health. Also, unless they like you there's no way of moving upwards job-wise either. We we’re also very understaffed most of the time.

The only good things were the reliable and steady amount of hours every week. The pay was also good but not enough to make it worth working there. I really did enjoy the actual jobs I was required to do, just not the people I had to work with

Management need to stop turning a blind eye to how their employees are being treated.

Firstly, i was fired without reason or notice
I worked very hard to improve whilst being kept in the dark about the processes and menu items (failed to train me properly) and also being spoken to very degrading the whole time i worked there.
I felt very unwelcomed by the majority of the workers (mostly management) who unless were forced to speak to me or ordered me unkindly to do something for them, saw me as invisible. I was showed how to do a small list of things only once and was expected to pick up everything else by myself.
Not to mention i was told that nobody was being paid super but i wasn’t sure of that because not once did i receive a payslip even after i had asked them to fix it, OR even after they had said they HAD fixed it.
Although glad, I felt it was an unfair dismissal. I worked very very hard and tried to stay enthusiastic despite all that i went through while working for them

I'll start off with the good things- everyone is so nice and I love  the whole atmosphere of the place! The hours are flexible as you are always allowed to N/A (if you say a week earlier).The training was good, you always had someone watching to correct you and they helped out alot and went beyond what they had to teach us. You get 25% off and 50% days you work which is great!   However the pay is so bad I'm currently getting paid $9.40 an hour on the weekdays! and $11 on saturdays. Most of the time you never finish on time and this is night shifts and i have often left at very close to 12 am when im meant to finish at 11:30 ! Also whilst I was a trainee I was required to train even newer people than me!! All in all i loved making all the food there includeing the churros and shakes and plating cakes and it is great experience to have in your resume but if you arent willing to wait until you pay slowly rises the longer you stay there i wouldnt recommend working there.

Management and owner don't know how to do there job. Constant complaints, yet nothing was done about them. Management and owner were unfriendly from the day I started work there.

First day you start you are thrown in the deep end. You are either going to sink or swim.
Leaning quickly is a must.
They have a shocking system that needs a big overhaul.

Co-workers constantly complained about the business and management. They were friendly enough to work with though.

Typical day would be, making coffee's and other hot drinks, preparing the cold drinks and cakes/slices. Cooking churros, funnel cakes etc. Cleaning constantly. Clearing tables and serving customers. ALOT of dishes to be done, hardly any help. Late nights were hectic. Always understaffed.

Hardest part of the job was knowing you weren't appreciated.
