Sams Warehouse

A typical day of work at Sam's Warehouse for staff is split into either being at the front registers (being the main Sales Clerk), and/or stocking up the stores shelves.

Most of the time I would be the stores main Sales Clerk and be placed upon the front register to put through customer products. I would also be responsible for customer enquiries both face-to-face and over the phone.

I learn't that in order to succeed as a Sales Clerk you have to be good at managing other staff members (e.g. knowing where/what they are doing). Apart from that you have to be good at handling a lot of unwanted pressure both from co-workers and customers.

The hardest part of the job would be the lack of efficiency and communication between co-workers, as the main part of the store that requires the most attention is the location of the Sales Clerk since most enquiries are made there. Being late to help with customer enquiries or not turning up at all to help out the Sales Clerk  puts pressure on all staff members as well as customers since this is a very 'team oriented' workplace.

It is somewhat ironic that I say this, but the most enjoyable part of the job isn't the pay but the customers. Every customer you meet is different, though not all of them may give you the time of the day to be nice, most are. This is the reason I wanted to work for Sam's Warehouse for over 2 years, whenever a customer smiled they made the day worth it.

A typical day includes counting all the tills before opening the store, starting all of the computers, turning on the store lights and music, make up a break sheet.
When the doors are opened, allocate staff to there stations, a trolley run is conducted, throughout the day, all of the store is stocked, cleaned, moved into new places, refunds and exchanges processed, answering calls.
end of dy closing calls are said over speaker, once customers are gone doos are rolled down and locked up tills are counted off then banking gets done, alarm systems activated.

I've learnt plenty in the past years as becoming supervisor, customer service and dealing with the public, answering phones correctly, talking on speaker, refunds and exchanges, stock rotation, banking and to be more confident wit people.

All management witin the store is amazing we are all like one big family.

The co-workers are all fantastic as well, like i said one big family. We all work together to get th job done.

The hardest part of the job would be the angry customers, having to keep them calm andnon violent.

The most enjoyable part by far is that we are all like one big family, so going to work in general is enjoyable, also the customer sevice side of things you meet so many new lovely people on a daily basis.

Typical day at work I would mostly be on the registers serving customers, stocking shelves when I had no customers to serve and helping customers with the whereabouts of items in the store. I would get a ten minute break, 30 minute lunch and another 10 minute break  if I work a full 8 hour shift, my weeks would vary between 1 to 2 8 hour shifts and 1, 3 hour or 2, 4 hour shifts instead of the 8 hour shift.
I learned a lot in representation and customer service along with how to create a more customer friendly environment, my co-workers were a nice friendly team and they were all easy to get along with and would have a laugh about something here and there, it created a very comfortable atmosphere to work in and I enjoyed it. The hardest part of the job would have to be running back and forth between isles to the registers constantly on a busy day serving customers through the shop floor too customers at the register. The other hardest part I would also have to say was loading up up to 500 pieces of flat pack furniture into trucks when bulk orders were purchased.

The most enjoyable part of my job when I worked at Sams Warehouse was definitely the friendly staff and some of the nice, caring and unique customers I met along the way.

my day consists of register work. customer enquires. balance till.  returning  unwanted stock back into sections and working new stock onto shelves/racks.
we work in a team but sometimes i find others look after themselves and arent happy to work  as part of a team.

hardest part is we have a lot of things that are either not priced or incorectly priced therefore makes some customers unhappy. 
Another hard part is having to deal with the lack of staff with a small budget of wages for staff and also having to deal with some co-workers that have communication problems, a lot of misscommunication happens.

I enjoy helping customers with enquiries. helping them find the product they are after. i find it very rewarding and they are normally very appreciative.
I also enjoy working stock on the floor as it keeps me busy and is hands on.

being at sams warehouse ive improved on my phone manner and learnt how to deal with difficult or unhappy customers.

The easy access for customers and the friendly banter between the university students ,plus the great way everyone knew what their role was made it such fun place to work in, all the amenities were close by and the people skills that all the team members had made each task easy to perform. lots of space for everyone to move in and ample aisles so putting stock was as easy and steady to do . The lunch breaks were fun as we all shared our customers questions and the solutions were given to any queries that arose during the working time . managers took our interests in consideration and every thing had it's place , the plan was mapped out on each section where items should go on. Making the decisions was easy and less time consuming due to the clever organized was each section was structured .

My shift started with my manager assigning jobs, we all had our own sections to take care of and to restock, as well as jumping on registers from time to time when needed. I learned to just get into your job and work hard for my managers as they would always lead by example and work really hard, so on occasion when they would give us an abundance of jobs to do, you would prioritise your time and work your way through tasks in an efficient and timely manner.
We had a  really great team at Sams if anyone finished their section early we would go and help out in another section.
The most enjoyable part of the job was the team atmosphere and the satisfaction of a job well done.

Overall Working at SAM'S Warehouse There was not much opportunity to work your way up, in the end they ended up closing down permanently because of non profit. My position was retail assistant/ Customer service officer and I enjoyed it immensely as I always have enjoyed working with customers and taking business calls. 
The hardest part of working at SAM'S Warehouse would have been putting away of stock as it was always pulled out of correct areas and off of shelves, and a lot of the stock consisted of small fragile items that there were an endless number of, this proved difficult because of the time it required and just the particularity and patience it took to walk around the large warehouse space and put everything back in it's allocated place,

I don't think this review is necessary because Sam's has been liquidated but I'll say it anyways. My typical day at work consisted of serving customers, doing returns, answering phone calls, stacking new stock, helping customers and moving large furniture. I learned the skills needed when communicating with a customer, how to create solutions to problems, time management, operating a register, handling money and cleaning. the hardest part of my job was dealing with the rush hours and when so many customers are waiting to b served. I really enjoyed my time at Sam's Warehouse. The staff and management I worked with were kind, supportive and very driven with doing their best.

My position was a Service Supervisor for many year -most of my time there- Managers and staff were easy to communicate with, when issues arose within co-workers it was always dealt with quickly and professional to keep the work place happy and run smoothly. 

The hardest part of my job was "completing" my to do list on busy day; I found myself at times willing working back or starting early in my own time to complete some tasks.

The most enjoyable part of my job was being given free range and being able to supervise and delegate tasks to staff as well as do the tasks myself.

I left on maternity leave and long service and before I could return was made redundant due to business issues.

Sams was very routine with daily discipline every day was very much the same.  I did learn how to manage a large team of up to 30 staff and keep with in bugets.  Merchandising and stock placement was also a large part of running a sams warehouse.  I had to delegate jobs to department managers so jobs could get done.  The hardest part was getting to all the team member so all employees had time with the manager and felt valued,  this job was also very physical.  The job was very creative and I loved that you could look back on your efforts for the day and see achievement
