TYPICAL DAY at work was typing up reports daily and monthly, typing reports for court cases etc, entering data, answering phones, stationery packs/mail, dealing with and assisting the Field Team of Area Representatives and Regional Area Managers and their Distributors. Processing pays and pay enquiries, filling in for others doing the odd task for others. Taking phone calls which at times were often abusive people with complaints. Chasing up Stock issues in the field for clients and Account Managers.
I LEARNED a variety of skills, developed patience and understanding of others as well as developing great friendships. How to work well as a team player in a work environment offering to help when needed always wanting to put in 110%.
CO-WORKERS It was more of a work family environment which was good as we had respect for one another in that we all worked really well together as a team often supporting as a group in their hobbies/activities outside of work. Often getting together as friends outside of work for coffee even.
MANAGEMENT I have to say that when it comes to Management you could not get a better Management team than the QLD Salmat office and in fact they received an award for their efforts and hard work which was recognised throughout the global company and country as QLD being the leading state. They were a team of people who engaged their staff asking for ideas to keep the company moving forward always focused on their next goal and achieving the impossible. They did not listen to anything negative always strong focused positive people working with their staff as a Salmat work friendly family environment. People had respect for Management and we all willingly supported each other in other departments.
THE HARDEST part of the job was when I had to say goodbye I did not want to leave. But as for the job there was never enough time in the day especially when the printer would break down and we had to stay back till 7pm at night sometimes to complete the contracts for the Distributors so they could go out with the stock on time. I loved the job and everything about it that it was a varied role, dealing with a variety of people from Area Representatives who are often stay at home mums to dealing with Account Managers across the country. My aim was to complete, offer assistance where needed and to just do the job asked and where possible offer ideas of improvement. I always strived to do my best for whoever I was working with or helping out at the time. I loved the company I worked for thoroughly enjoying my job role so much that I looked forward to going to work each day always striving to achieve my best each day. I always enjoyed the work functions throughout the year and was on the social committee offering input with the decorations and food etc. I look forward to my next job in my career with great enthusiasm after leaving Salmat knowing that not all work places are the same but believe I have a lot to offer after the knowledge and skills I have gained along the way often working with difficult people. I was there 7yrs 10mths.

I got a job working for Salmat (Deliver For Dollars) within a week, sign up was relatively easy but once you get catalogues delivered to your door you would have to fold them all so they can be all delivered at once. Some weeks it was only 5 catalogues, other weeks you would have to do upwards of 13 for around $50 (in my area at least, its different but still around the same price range.) 

Most of my mondays-wednesdays were completely taken up having to fold papers and deliver up to 300 houses, I quit this job for this exact reason, I was getting very underpaid for how committed I was to this job and when you're doing it all on your own it takes *really* long.

You have to meet your quota, if you don't end up delivering papers after Wednesday night you'll get your pay taken and have excess stock laying around.

Personally (and like most reviews here) you probably shouldn't work here, unless you want to do easy work every half of your week just for a measly $20-$60 each week with it varying whilst you're unemployed or if you want to lose weight. I did around 10km of walking in my neighbourhood each week which kept me out of the house losing a few KG's. Many jobs don't do that.

In my experience management was fine but it's different in every area.

I didn't enjoy this job at the end of the day and kept job hunting after I had saved enough money to do what I want.

In total I made around $300 after 10 weeks of folding and delivering. 




Very very hard work and is under payed however nice people! I mean if you are a kid // teen or so the money is fine as extra cash and you also get very good benefits with that such as walking and meeting new people..  In my state you get paid for folding along with delivering  I am not sure if every state gets paid for folding but I would guess they do...   Its estimated in folding around 15 dollars per 1k pamphlets  for example if you have 300 houses to deliver to and get 3 different kinds of advertisements that makes 900 in total right so that's close to 15 dollars. anyways I don't mind the pay for folding thats an estimated amount but like the folding is very hard work depending how much you get and all and it can be stressful good to do with a friend or even get family's help while doing that!
And delivering if you get paid lets say 10 dollars per thousand pamphlets delivered  then we will just say if you did 300 houses giving 3 pahmplets to each house that you would make 9 dollars..

This is an estimated amount might not be accurate depending on where you are I don't know...

Also I noticed how the weekends get less to fold then the weekdays

Anyways the job is hard working good to get you into great working habits and yeah   I personally really like this job at the moment although its very time consuming and takes a lot of effort!

The job starts at 12pm and finishes at 8pm. 90% of the time is spent on the phone dialling customers collecting feedback about a Telstra product and encouraging and promoting customers to use the product they've purchased. Since my time here in Salmat, I believe my communication skills have improved.

The management in BigPond Movies campaign here in Salmat have a hard time keeping agents to be motivated, driven and even satisfied in this campaign especially in the Outbound team. Which is why the staff turnover rate in the outbound side is very high. Most agents leave mostly around 3 to 6 months. Part of the On-target earnings depends on how many dials you make in the day and how many customers pick up the phone. It is difficult to get OTE due to the very high targets (sometimes unrealistic) and some of the targets rely on the customer picking up their phones. The task of the job is easy, but it is marred by an uninspired workplace.

The co-workers are very friendly and easy to get along. All of us come from different backgrounds. The friendliness of my co-workers does lighten up the job a bit. There is no need to dress up in office attire since we are in a call centre environment. The location of the job is also good since it's at Melbourne.

This job had its upsides and downsides. It got me out for quite a lot of exercise which was nice, and the hours were also flexible. With my area, we were given from Saturday Night until Thursday Morning to finish them. However, within weeks of starting this job I realised that it's not worth it AT ALL. The amount of hours spent folding were so long, as I've been doing it for a few months now, I have gotten quicker at it, but it's still so long. I worked it out, and I'm only making about $2.5 dollars per hour. Theres about 400 houses in my area, which isn't as much as I have heard other
having heaps more. The pay is very poor, I average around 25 bucks a week, but honestly it's not worth it. If I worked at McDonalds, I could easily make 25 bucks in 3 hours, rather than 8. Another thing I want to mention, when the delivery drivers drop the catalogues at your house, sometimes they give you way less catalogues then you need, so your getting paid more! They are quite slack, but extra money? Sure.
I'm quitting this job soon, as I am only a High School Student, and the job is too demanding for my schedule. It leaves barely any time for homework.
This is my personal experience of course, but I would definetly recommend giving it a go, because you can quit at any time.

As a salmat targeted media deliverer, I achieved my goal of returning to regular exercise.    It was effective to have accountability twice a week with the flexibility to break the walking into manageable segments at anytime during the day. 

As income, it is obsene exploitation averaging around  $1- $5 per hour & possibly up to $10/hour.  
For example, my average weekly payment was up to $40 for 2 x deliveries consisting of collating x2, delivering x2, receiving and dispatch of media products.
Not recommended as good source of income.  

It is a handy exercise to prepare for a first job or returning to the workforce with valuable skill development including self-paced prioritizing, organisation, accountability, time-management and manual handling.  

I am grateful for the opportunity of a fun way to return to regular walking around my neighborhood. 
I am also grateful that I'm now finished with super low paid exploitation and constant flow of papers around the home.

My friend and I are going on a holiday and thought we would get exercise while making a bit of extra cash.
We each put an application and we were contacted promptly.
We weren't aware we had to fold the catologues until pick up.
I had to do 600 houses, each house had 6 catologues so folding was horrible and took ages even though my sister's helped out. 
I thought I had it bad but my friend had to do 500 houses with 16 catologues per house. So she was expected to fold 8000 catologues and deliver them all by herself within 5 days. Up to 6 people were helping her at one point and it still took hours. 
She told the area manager that she didn't think she could complete it and the manager told her to try her best to complete it but if she didn't have time to deliver every single catologue she would not get paid.
We attempted to do it, We were told it would take 3 hours to deliver on her own but we were BOTH delivering for almost two hours and the car was still full of catologues. We did not have enough time to finish. So my friend didn't get paid for all the hours she already put in. 
I completed my catologues, got paid $46 for hours and hours of work. I knew the pay would be bad but the amount of time you have to put into it could go towards something much useful. You get paid less than 10c per house and no money for all the hours folding.

I worked in this company for three years. They were very good with allowing flexibility to take certain days off for my university studies. The work was difficult at the start but the training you got was reasonable. 

The salary was pretty poor considering we were the backbone of Coles IT and other related jobs would pay a lot more. Management had plenty of issues from the start and this would flow onto to team leaders etc. 

If you wern't good mates with someone higher up or with someone on a secondment then getting any form of promotion was pretty much impossible. 

The culture at first was a really good one with plenty of motivated staff their. But as problems occured and people realised we wernt going to get better remuneration it went down hill. High staff turnovers meant they tried to recruit sub standard staff in the hope they would stay. 

Overall I did enjoy my time at Salmat but would only reccomend working for them part time in conjunction with studies or as a 2nd job.

very human work environment, I personally didn't have the best time all the time as I'm the sort of person who enjoys being very hard on myself when it comes to work so the embracing of employee differences felt a little too decadent & post-modern for me however I'd certainly recommend Salmat to anyone interested in call centre work as a comforting work environment is what appeals to a majority of people and they can certainly provide that. Management is good at recognizing and developing people's strengths although they do at times go a little overboard with how analytical they can be so if you're the sort of person who knows themselves really well and has no qualms explaining your thought processes a lot of what you want to convey can be disregarded for the sake of abstract data. Base pay pretty meh but there's good potential to earn some big bucks if you bust booty and exceed targets, particularly in one of their sales roles.

It may seem like an attractive position at first, don't be fooled. The job is not worth applying as it is not worth the time and effort required for the position, the wages are also very low and the work environment is very stressful and sometimes dangerous. Salmat does not even consider you an employee or the position as a job, it is a "hobby" according to them, ha ha. You have to fold the leaflets once they have arrived at your door (normally occurs twice a week); which takes hours and then you have to deliver them to your allocated area which takes about an hour to complete. There can also be hazards when delivering, I regularly faced aggressive dogs and unsavory characters and annoying children on top of the stress of the job and the weather. I have felt scared for my life at times as I delivered in a rough neighbourhood - this takes a mental toll on you after a while. The bags that you need to carry for delivery can also be very heavy and leave bruises on your shoulder that won't go away. Overall, avoid this job, the only upside I can see is that it will make you thinner.
