Starting with SECUREcorp in December 2008 i was employed as a control room operator. My duties included contractor management, CCTV monitoring, after hours duties at a well known retail centre which would sometes be maintenance/facility roles. 

 After 2 years of this role I was promoted to security manager and was involved in VIP detail and led a small team. This role also included duties such as monthly reports, key audits, contractor relations ( involving risk assessment, organising with project managers, and audits of workplace), budgets, SOP writing, rosters, risk assessment writing, workplace mediation with staff and clients, interviewing of new staff, staff training, after hour on call, rostering, training, safety audits, knowledge of basic BMS operation, vykon system, milestone knowledge, insight program knowledge, uniform processing and deliverance, and also staff harmony and morale delivery as well as. other various roles.

 The duties that were outside of the normal duties were preventative building maintenance and facility roles.

When I started with this company I was put on casual but worked full time hours. I was promised a fullt-time contract would be offered after 3 months of working. After 6 months of asking management for the contract my hours were cut to less than part time and a contracted was offered. while negotiating the contract to secure more hours for myself I suffered a stroke! Because i had not signed the contract and I suffered the stroke away from work I was treated poorly when I wanted to return to work. I was told that I should have signed the contract while i had the chance and that the 10 hours a week I was asking would not be able to be accommodated! "Thats the nature of casual work" they told me. 

Then I was bounced between managers and HR staff who didn't call me back when they said they would, ignored emails and made verbal agreements that they did not honor. it was only after I made inquiries with Fair Work that they responded to my emails but they returned to their tactic of ignorance soon after.

Signing in on arrival, signing in managers to see managers at Queensland Rail. Constant co-ordination with PA's including the CEO. This was very much a people person position. I enjoyed being the 'face' of the company for visitors and staff upon entering building. Versed in emergency procedures and general health and safety. CCTV camera work. Team environment whilst also required to work autonomously. Hardest part of the job was the travel to and from work from where I lived, making it a very long day. The most enjoyable part of the job was interacting with the general public including the CEO and all management and staff at Queensland Rail. Also being in a position to support and promote the accepted charities that Qld Rail supported. I received a certificate and write-up in the QR magazine for my charity work and high sales of Guide Dog toys for the Guide Dog Association of Queensland.

A typical day at work is walking into work and finding miners waiting for you to either check their access or why their cards have denied at the gate. For the next 13 hours of work, its data entry and dealing with visitors/truck drivers that are either new or regular on site and ringing hosts to come escort them. 

I have learned a lot about how I can manage my time with paperwork and other priorities that need to be attended to. The management team do their best in ensuring that we are well looked after but most importantly that we are happy with our job.

My co-workers are uplifting and great company. The hardest part of the day is when you have run out of work to do and find yourself trying to stay awake so you start cleaning. The most enjoyable part of the day would have to be the ending of shift. What better feeling then knowing that you have finished all that you are meant to do and can finally relax.

The good things
The good things about working at cotton on are you get to work with a lot of great people and get to help a lot of customers whom are looking for an outfit for themselves or someone else and you are the one that helps and helps them be happy with their clothing image and/or they get to help someone else feel amazing. Great company. Totally recommend to work at and to shop at!!!
The challenges
The challenges are having to work with different customers who have different styles and some people can be rude but you don't ever let those things challenge you because at the end of the day the whole staff is supporting and helps with every situation.

I can sit in front of monitors, but for me, most of my shift I like to walk.There are many things to see, check and secure, help people as well as make them aware of wrong doing on there part and keep everybody safe. 
Overall, a very versatile but demanding job. The management is very nice, the hours can be long but for me usually no more than 8 hours. I like working afternoons and weekends having to do more of a security job. Getting to meet and work with many people from different cultures makes my work interesting. Usually I find dealing with people easy if you know how and if you well trained for it.

What is the best part of working at the company?
My experience working with Secure Corp was short.I was not there for long.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No assistance. Not professional. Angry aggressive people. Aggressive behaviour. No respect.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There seems to be a lack of communication between the organisation. They were not caring no maturity, no leadership. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I no longer work there.But my typical days were to be dependable, co-operative,calm and to  be patient.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing really. In the person’s contract it states that if you’re found to be off site during a work shift you can be instantly dismissed. Not yet happened to anyone as they are sometimes threatening that it might happen but absolutely nothing happens so everyone ends up doing it.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They only want lazy yes people to work for them not people who do their job to their best of their ability.

This was a challenging job but it was overall worth it. I learned how to be firm but fair with patrons at the Event and how to cordon off areas. The management and supervisors were very fair and thorough with training and I received praise for my work personally. The hardest part of the job would have to be having to stand up for so long but I endured and I am glad I did. The most enjoyable would be meeting new people and the camaraderie that all the staff shared.

Bad management by on site supervisors and buisness managers  have been losing them big contracts from Victoria Gardens too Museums Victoria. Sending guards to cover shifts who just dont care.  Coming unshaven without proper uniforms and no idea what they are doing. Good luck too MSS keeping some of the worst guards at the Museum and supervisor who palms off his work to the controll room while he trolls the internet on youtube and the AFL web site., hopefully you don't regret not starting afresh there.
