Royal Prince Alfred Hospital

Last August 2018 was my first time to visit Australia. I did go there not for leisure but to study in order to pursue my nursing career. I was able to finish the Entry Program for Internationally Qualified Nurses (EPIQ). I was able to pass the said course and now I'm waiting for my license to be release anytime soon. Australia was a great place to live in. With its beautiful weather, people to interact with and the surrounding environment. Will definitely go back there and willing to relocate soon. My life there wasn't easy at first, the struggle of living alone but with friends surrounding me helped me live a normal life. I was able to travel and visit the different tourist spots and enjoy every bits of it.

As a trainee of RPAH I really felt at home there. It is a large,multi-faceted hospital which receives referred patients from the South Pacific region. I spent 11 months on staff in the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit. this was a time of great learning and broadening of my skill base. I felt that a change of scene would be good and transferred to the Operating Theatre Suite. I had found my home and the management were helpful and keen to see us newbies progress in our chosen field. 
    The teamwork made each day an opportunity for learning and teaching. 
Hard work and often overtime made life interesting. 

Working in RPA is challenging and a little bit of stress included specially in the early morning at around 6am to 8am due to the type of work that I do is to deliver the necessary linen supply needed by the doctors and nurses in doing their jobs in the hospital. Receiving the linen supplies in the morning is again another stressful hours as I have to help the drivers take all linen supplies to the clean linen area. Arranged all linen in preparation for the next day. Plus helping the supervisor do some ordering and more data entries needed for our reports to the manager.

Bullying is not recognized here, so be very careful about who you end up with as a supervisor. HR will always back up the supervisor no matter if you have an airtight case of blatant bullying. Toxic work environment where safety is not an issue, you are being paid a wage, so suck it up! I had no backup staff and was expected to do all the work and let it build up after coming back from leave. It can sometimes just take one person to ruin everything, and if that person is your supervisor then there is no way out. 

In my  Dept.  bullying, micromanagement exists.  24/7 shift work, unequal distribution of workload, management protects its own,  staffs very little say on skills, tests, workflow  improvements, seniors fail to exercise people mngt skill most times

Nice team, great timing of work, good understanding between team

Busy routine and too much pressure of work

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was nice and multicultural environment, everyone had a chance

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very busy for example if you are taking blood you have to take 60 patient in 5 hrs

Over all fast pace but enjoyable environment caring for many different culture background patients.
Colleagues friendly and supportive and like any nursing position challenging days.
High level of occupational health and safety emphasis and follow through.
Professional accountability very high and has a great rebound effect on staff individually.

- Busy in the mornings, Slows down a bit during night shifts. 
- Treat people the way they want to be treated, not the way you want to be treated.  
- Was alright 
- Some new the difference about culture, not everybody tho. 
- Losing patients, you get attached to patients you see every day. Then to lose them when they pass is so heart breaking. 
- Seeing your friends at work, having a laugh with patients.

I am a Registered Nurse graduate from Western Sydney University. I am passionate and enthusiastic about working in a clinical environment where my knowledge and skills in the field of nursing can be improved and developed. I am able to work independently but also as part of a large team environment with occasional mentoring from senior team members.

Fast pace working environment, fun work place. 
very competitive and always on your feet. I learned alot about patient care and prevention of diseases form spreading out, sterile technic of doing things inside a operating theatre,I enjoyed working there but it was not my path and as tine goes by , I wanted to do something different.
