A typical day was hitting the ground as you walked in the door, even if you got there early, which I found I needed to do to keep up with the work load.  Phones constantly rang and all staff worked tirelessly all day.  Lunch breaks were taken but not at a certain time as you needed to fit them in with clients attending and phone calls etc.  Morning and afternoon teas were usually taken at the desk.  I could have a drink of tea or coffee at my desk whenever I  liked though. All staff were very supportive and friendly and genuinely cared for their clients and loved the job they did.
The culture was a respectful one and there was very little office gossip.
The focus of the counselling aspect seems to be changing to one of Family violence counselling.

RA was a very hard working place to work for. You had to wear many many hats and be precise in our work. We had a lot of staff doing various programs. I worked closely with the Domestic Violence Program as it was on my Monday night shift and Friday morning shift. I took highly distressed calls but over time was able to take some work off the Facilitator as she was so busy. I also had to take up to 60 calls a day again some distressing and my colleagues would pass on to me as I got to know them over time. Some would even ask for me. I also had to do reception and bookings for couples counselling/mediation/ child contact services. I enjoyed the job but it took a toll at that time as my kids were younger 

There was a good working /supportive team in our office initially but due to constant changes  many started to leave.

Hated the Deluth model and the feminist movement pushing it.

Poor communication from head office.

Wages for the stress levels were average - could work as a check out person for the same wage.

I feel the heart has gone from what used to be a caring organisation.


A typical day involved  providing up to 5 x one hour counselling sessions per day with administrative responsibilities as well.. That could be very intense  The job provided a valuable opportunity to develop professional skills under the watchful eye of experienced supervisors and managers. The best part of the job was the opportunity to engage in helping others  alongside genuine caring professional colleagues..

For a company that promotes relationship counselling services that has had its past two CEO's resign over infidelity issues should tell you all you need to know.  It was well known that one of the counsellors has a thing for married women.  I found it appalling and only lasted 6 months. The pay was mediocre at best and they rely on getting staff who need flexible working arrangements.  Try getting any projects moved along and you hit the biggest apathetic managerial roadblock you have ever seen.

Relationship Australia in the South West of WA have very poor HR and Senior Management skills. The culture is poor,  very ‘old school’ secretive and cliquey. While the client work was very fulfilling, the workplace culture is terrible. High turn over of new staff while one or two have been there since the beginning of time ands guard their territory. For a relationship counselling service they have a very poor reflective capacity as an organisation and little insight into their own repeated actions. 

I had the opportunity to work with an amazing group of professionals who are committed to serving their community. I most enjoyed the satisfaction of working with families to reach agreements in the best interest of their children. In any counseling circumstance the most difficult experience is seeing children suffer at the hands of their parents and other life circumstances.

Solid organisation!

Plenty of scope for professional development and advancement within the nation wide organisation who have been providing therapeutic support to couples and family's in Australia for over 30years.
They are a progressive organisation. Highly regarded in the sector. 



talk to young people,play games,drive mini bus,help run various programes including a cafe,cleland wildlife park,gym.
1 to 1 mentoring. 
The hardest part of the job is to calm individuals when they having a melt down.conflict resolution. make reports to familys sa when needed. think on your feet .
There are also lot of positive times when you witness clients succeed and grow as individuals gaining confidence and engaging within programes

Practises the kind of bias against men which women have experienced for centuries and still do. Misogyny is abhorrent but so is misandry. The department culture is actually excellent: colleagues and middle management are supportive, with excellent organisation at that level. Senior management, however, are toxic-as. Recommendation: stay away!
