Starts at 06:30 with the early morning routine of showers and treatments and checking of all residents in my care. Breakfast is at 08:00 when all staff help in the dining room, administering medication, serving meals, or assisting with feeding. For some of the residents meals are served in their rooms. A lot of interaction and team work is required during the busiest part of a morning shift. If there are no unpredictable events ( a fall, or sudden deterioration of health of a resident), sparks of good humour and fun can fly between residents and staff, keeping in mind residents physical and mental needs. The tempo gets a bit less frenetic after breakfast: making beds, after breakfast showers, answering the call bells, scheduled toileting, etc. Lunch is served at twelve, then comes toileting, filling in bowel charts, vital signs, writing progress notes.
The hardest part of the job is when you can not meet the needs of a resident because of some communication issue between staff or shifts. Or if you have failed to recognise major health deterioration in a resident. 
The most enjoyable part of the job is when you realise that you have made a difference in someone's life - you get a positive feedback from family or residents for the job well done. Or, which has been my favourite, you see improvement in resident's health status, and although it can be genes or nature's course of events, we like to think that improvement has happened because of our interventions and care delivered.

Most days I stay in bed until I know I have to go into work otherwise I'll be late.
RSL over work their staff, cut peoples jobs and palm the work off onto someone else to try and save money for their budget. 
RSL told us they had to cut hours and workers to stay in their budget but that leaves carers doing, cleaning, kitchen, medication rounds, blood pressure rounds & activities as well as their own jobs. This leaves RN's off the floor doing receptionist work and one laundry to do laundry for two facilities. 
One maintenance person to change all lights, fix anything that has been broken, organize all trades man, send off invoices.
One receptionist, doing payroll, roster, invoices, appointments, showing around new admissions, plus their own duties.
Then management get frustrated when everything isn't done properly so they start filing incident forms for uncompleted documentation and rubbish not being emptied ect,  
They have cater care as an outside kitchen company, the food is bad quality, cheap meats that I would only feed to my dog.

This is poor organization skills and bad financial skills

What is the best part of working at the company?
The team environment was also very supportive, which made delivering person-centered care even more effective and rewarding.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part was on days when we were short-staffed, as it made it harder to manage time and meet everyone's needs. But it taught me how to stay organised, work efficiently, and support my team under pressure

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
When I worked at the company, the work environment was supportive and team-oriented. It was a multicultural workplace, which made it a rich and respectful space to work in. Everyone brought different strengths, and we worked together to provide the best care for our clients

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day involved administering medication, providing personal care, assisting with meal delivery, and helping residents who required support with feeding. I also ensured their comfort and wellbeing throughout the shift.

Start at 2 pm, (afternoon shift). Working in Dementia and medium care: 2 care staff with RN until 4 pm. Then another person on to assist 2 sections 15 Residents in each section. Get handover at nurses station. Attend to residents until afternoon tea. Help kitchen staff prepare and hand out afternoon tea to residents in dining/recreation room. Take afternoon tea to residents in their rooms. Clear away afternoon tea items. Attend to residents til 4.30 pm and assist residents to dining room and seat them. Collect residents from room and take to dining room. Help kitchen staff serve residents, assist some residents with feeding and prepare hot beverages. Help kitchen staff clear away. Start taking residents to their rooms to prepare for bed. Assist them with personal care etc. Make sure all tasks are completed within a strict time frame. Half hour before end of shift, do all reports. End of shift do handover at nurses station. I have learn't that not all people within the team are team players. The hardest part is working with a few people who do not pull their weight. The majority of the team members were wonderful to work with. The best thing was the residents.

Caring for war veterans was an honour as I got to understand more about Astralian roots and culture. Anzac day was of particular interest for me as I got to witness and in a way participate in the activities lined up for the day. Channel 9 have been comming to host their morning show at the village headquaters where I worked. Overall the greatest gift I got from the residents I looked after was seeing them smile and for me nothing beats more than putting a smile on someone's face. My greastest achievement was being recognised by the CEO for the good care I gave to the residents amongst a total staff of about 1200 so that was a huge deal for me. Working with the aged brought its challenges at times particularly caring for dementia residents. Management did provide the necessary skills and tools handle such high care needs including offering free dementia course which I did with university of Tasmania. Teamwork was also of essence and for the most part everyone got along well but like with any workplace there were one or two odd apples but generally it was a fun place to around.

A typical day in RSL Lifecare involved firstly checking emails.  This is how OT referrals were mostly generated.  I would then go to see the residents and complete Washing and Dressing Assessments and Practice.  After this, I would prepare to implement my Exercise Therapeutic Group.  I would then complete received referrals. 

I learned a huge amount during my time at RSL Lifecare. I learned alot about Manual Handling.  I gained experience in caring for residents in their Palliative Stage.  My skills for educating Care Staff and Families improved immensely.  I learned how to liaise with Department of Veteran Affairs for equipment.  

I found management and co-workers to be very supportive towards me.  There was a great MDT and we all had a good working relationship.   

I found dealing with all of the paperwork to be the hardest part of the job.  However, I soon learned how to complete this paperwork in a timely manner.  

I loved spending time with the residents and assisting them to achieve their goals.  I enjoyed working closely with the residents to maintain their independence for as long as possible.

i was offered permanent relief shift, four nights and do all the best of my skills.

Learnred to communicated more with the rest of the teams, i do move round the wardsto worked different sections which was like a challenge to me, because i eing used to staying in one area.

The management was very good to the clients than looking after their staff's, because the staff's are seen unhappy and do ring sick often and the work load rested on we, nursing the loved our job. Most of the times, i need to worked by myself to care for 66 patients in my sections, with any helped from the REGISTERED  NURSE. 

M y co-workers are not great as the hospitals, i do not know maybe because is an aged care. No team workers as i do enjoyed in the hospitals and i do always seen myself only correcting and doing things rights, that is very fustrating.

Staff's lazy and does not wanted to learned, so i needed to kept quiets. Not happy with the place and that i affected my job

I enjoyed when the RN can worked with me and gives a helping hand.

usually an early start, helping the residents/ patients/ clients with every day living assistance, eg: showering, washing hair, cleaning teeth, getting dressed. Assisting with meals and fluids. I have completed various courses in house and study in my own time.I worked well with my co-workers as being a nurse, at times the job can be mentally and physically hard so its always good to be able to have a chat with your work mates, even try and have a laugh to make it that bit easier sometimes. hardest part of the job is losing someone you cared for. most enjoyable part is making someone smile and laugh. Knowing your making a difference to some ones life makes it very rewarding.

Incredibly satisfying to be employed by RSL Lifecare. Staff and volunteers at all levels are passionate and committed about making a difference in the lives of senior Australians and Veterans. Systems and processes are fantastic with Management leading from the top and supporting from the bottom. Like any job are all types of workers, varying from lazy to super hard working.

The hardest part of my job:
Trying to keep up with the standard of one employee in particular.

The most enjoyable part of my job:
Serving and speaking with the veterans that sacrificed themselves for our freedoms.
