Easy job - But Poor Supervision Can Ruin the Experience


The job is very easy – you just scan merchandise. It pays slightly above minimum wage, and the best part is the flexibility. If you're a uni student or just need some extra cash, RGIS can be a good choice. You can pick shifts based on your availability, making it easy to balance with other commitments.

However, the overall work experience heavily depends on the supervisor you're assigned to. While some are professional and supportive, others are incredibly rude, unprofessional, and completely lack basic manners. They bark orders without saying "please" or "thank you", and talk down to staff in a very disrespectful way. This creates an unnecessarily toxic work environment.

In the Sydney area, be especially cautious. Some supervisors — YOU WIILL KNOW THEIR NAMES IF YOU WORK HERE — act as if they’re in charge of everything, yet spend most of the shift doing nothing. Instead of working with the team, they just sit around, give orders and treat others poorly.

What’s even more frustrating is that “supervisor” isn’t an official job title — they’re regular staff who take on a few extra responsibilities. It’s disappointing to see those such unprofessional people take on this role without contributing meaningfully.

If RGIS invested in proper training for these 'supervisors' — particularly in respectful communication, teamwork, and basic courtesy (though most of us learned these behaviours back in primary school) — the work experience would improve significantly.

If you want to survive this job, forget about what they say on the job manuals, they just want you to scan more than 500 items per hour. Which is very unrealistic considering the items' bar code are most of the time not easily accessible without manual intervention. Do not even bother to recount or check your scans total, otherwise the supervisor would think you are not quick enough. 
Accuracy and integrity have no place in this job. As long as your total count is found to be correct when it is randomly checked, nobody cares. Just keep scanning like crazy without recheck whether you are missing an item if you are sure nobody is going to randomly check your count. 
Of course there are still a few good and realistic supervisors, but whenever you are under unrealistic supervisors, which most of them are, do as mentioned above if you want to survive.
Not recommended to work here unless you are an international student that desperately need some cash and can accept being treated as rubbish by some supervisors.

Working here is genuinely enjoyable because the atmosphere is both positive and energetic. The team shares a great sense of camaraderie, which makes collaboration feel natural and engaging. There's a good balance between professionalism and playfulness, with plenty of laughter, inside jokes, and mutual support throughout the day. The leadership encourages creativity and innovation, which keeps things fresh and exciting. Regular team-building events, friendly competitions, and themed days add variety and keep morale high. The office environment is bright and welcoming, and there's always a buzz of enthusiasm in the air. People are encouraged to express themselves, share ideas openly, and take part in decision-making. It’s a place where everyone feels valued and included. Even during busy times, the team pulls together with a positive spirit. Overall, it's more than just a job—it’s a place where work and fun genuinely go hand in hand, creating a great experience for everyone.

RGIS offers hands-on stocktaking experience and values accuracy in stocktaking. The company offers good pay and some supervisors are professional and respectful, which makes a positive difference on shift.

That said, I did witness moments where certain supervisor were dismissive toward new workers. For example, saying things like “we don’t need them” repeatedly after a shift was completed. This behaviour highlights favouritism toward experienced staff and makes hardworking new employees feel undervalued.  It’s important to remember that everyone contributes to completing the job, and respectful communication is key to maintaining morale and professionalism.

Overall, the company has a strong operational model, but I hope supervisors consistently practice the professionalism and respect that the company aims to uphold.

People were nice and it was flexible

However, travelling all over the place for work was not worth it, especially when most stock takes went for long hours and either started very early or finished very late.

Even though I was fired from the company due to inaccuracy (which I can only blame myself for), it turned out to be a huge blessing when it happened. 
Also, although the company says it has a three strike rule, I only got one warning 
and then after they stopped giving me shifts suddenly with no explanation, it took them two months to tell me that i had been fired 
unless you have a high level of accuracy and are willing to travel long distance, do not apply.

The main task is scanning barcodes in shops.

I live in the southern suburbs and always prefer to work in the northern suburbs simply becoz the vibe is so much better among the northern suburbs supervisors. The south is dominated by a nasty asian clique that tells lies to cover for each other and to discredit anybody outside their clique. 

No day is typical. Most jobs occur outside trading hours with a little overlap - either before or after trade. I like going to different places and the occasional overnight trip to places I've not been before.

Conflicting goals of speed vs accuracy. It depends if the client is checking.  The better supervisors let you know what to focus on for each job.

Not a secure jobs or a job you wanna doing for long term! U had to travel a lot to do a job you can be travel up to North in the early morning then travel back to Ingelburn in the afternoon with in a day job...Some time you can do whole day until verylate but there no overtime or meal money anything!...You can choose which jobs you wanna do but you need to make sure you know the location of the jobs you picked and the important are if you take public transport you need to careful the timetable otherwise if you late for the next jobs they will not send jobs for you to pick anymore so you fired lol ....!

Shift lengths can be unpredictable, and job locations as held all over the state, yet I still put my name down for as many shifts as possible because I truly enjoy the work. Everyone working there is fantastic, and the supervisors are all lovely and extremely helpful. You get to know products on the shelves that you might have never noticed before and can window shop for something you could have been after before coming back to buy it the next day. You get full control over the number of shifts you are willing to work a week, and shifts are often outside of business hours so the job doesn't interfere with life.

I enjoyed working in this facility because we had a good team work and management also supported us a lot when in troubles or any bad situation, but some times when there is short of staff and staffing service could not provide full staff we I personally experienced a lot of trouble in daily routine task because we had more work load. However, we were provided extra help by the managing staff  by requesting other staff members to stay back for extra hours, sometimes luckily we used to get help and sometime we were not lucky enough. Overall, my working period in Regis was good and memorable.

Rgis is a good company.  its hard work since you have to scan so many items carrying a heavy machine in your hand and maintaining not only speed but also accuracy was very important. the reason i left Rgis is the shift pattern, zero hour contract and too much travelling. 
sometimes there used to be no work for weeks and when used to get work the timings used to be very off and had to travel outside newcastle, which was getting difficult for me since, i am married. once in a while is okay, but too much travelling and odd timing shifts is the only reason why i had to leave RGIS.
