The Gardens Point campus is located nicely next to the botanical gardens with walking distance to the CBD.

Some buildings are already refurbished and these very nice to work in, mostly though in open-office plans, and not enough meeting rooms to work in, which does not work well for research (everyone on my floor bought noise-cancelling headphones).

The focus areas (as seen by the upper management) are well funded and attract top talent, not just nationwide but also internationally. 

There is an issue with leadership and bureaucracy. People seem to have no responsibility or are not strong enough to make decisions. Worse sometimes commitments are back-paddled. Which does not build trust and has negative effects on the overall culture. 

On the other hand staff are also not trusted and bureaucracy is taking over a significant amount of time.

The main objective of this job is to encourage more students from under-represented groups (such as low economic status, rural and Indigenous students) to study Law or Justice at university. We are dedicated to increasing enrolments from students who may not feel that they have the opportunity at university. One way we try to achieve this is by travelling to schools and conducting workshops for Year 6 to 12 students with faculty-specific activities throughout the day. At these sessions we tell the students our stories and the journey we took to get to university. This is to show the students that we are not really all that different to them and to inspire them with our powerful stories.

I enjoyed my time as a Student Ambassador being able to engage with both peers and kids about University and what its like. The workplace culture was great and I was especially happy about being able to work with some of my old friends from Highschool. The hardest part of the job was getting in front of 300-400 students and talking to them about myself. The most enjoyable part of the job was seeing the smiles and clear joy on the students faces after running activities for them. From this job I learned a lot about myself and what my strengths and weaknesses are and what I bring to the table as an employee. I am grateful for the opportunity with my University and would gladly recommend it to others.

As a higher education research student, I received much support from supervisory, administration and technical staff. There is great opportunity to explore different investigation techniques with training in the appropriate technologies.
The most difficult part of this type of work is that you are required to generate and maintain your own direction and focus. From time to time the staff are unable to find suitable expertise to help with enquiries so the students must work this out for themselves. The best part of the job is interacting with technical staff who always take a lot of interest in the projects and the technologies involved.

Kelvin Grove Campus: Friendly staff, good amenities and good for exercise walking uphill.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There was no stressful experiences while working here.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Fantastic work environment, amenities and friendly staff.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The typical day at Kelvin Grove Campus starts with a walk uphill from the bus platform to B block. Then, work until lunch time. At lunchtime do a campus loop walk, have lunch then return to work until the day is concludes.

I have been luck enough to gain skills and start at a reception level and shift into communications, events and training.

QUT provides its staff with a healthy work life balance and the culture is excellent. 

It's also a good choice of employer if you are wanting to progress in your careers as it strongly supports career development through further training and encourages further studies.

The business is very good for what its worth in the University frontier. I loved the opportunity in working there and believed it was a great experience of teamwork, and meeting new challenges and expectations. 

Management were easy going and great to get along with. So were the other teams in other departments, Staff overall had been building the business into the family orientated structure that seemed to help us all keep moving forward throughout our daily routine.

As a sessional academic employment is at the whim of unit co-ordinators who favour their own students over experience and dedication.

I have learned valuable skills, interaction with students, learning to adapt teaching practice to students of varying capabilities.

In a view to appearing cutting edge, this organisation boasts about its unethically biased management goals rather than supporting and encouraging advancements. This is what happens when an organisation loses sight of its core purpose.

QUT Is struggling to adapt to an evolving educational landscape, in IT, this means ongoing outsourcing, and reorganization. Senior Management are only concerned with their own reputation.
