Attending traffic accidents assisting paramedics save lives, public safety in flood zones and incidents of devastation, being the first on a scene to prevent some one from taking their own lives then helping them back to a happier normality, keeping the public safe from intruders and untoward people, being privileged enough to work in multiple QLD Cape Indigenous communities being known as the cop who likes to have a chat, working in a country town being known and getting to know the local community. Not your ordinary job.

 Working for the Queensland Police Service has enable me to acquire knowledge of using legislation, policy and procedures in my daily working environment. A large percentage of my daily work is to process a large volume of applications while also talking to clients on the phone about all aspects that pertain to the client needs within the Weapons Act 1990.Working in an environment like the Queensland Police Service I have to liaise with various police personnel and fellow work colleagues on a daily basis. Working closely with Authorised Officers and Team Leaders as well as members of the team. I also have to train new personnel of aspects that the job entails.The hardest part of the job is making sure that the clients understand the legislative aspects in assessing the application and why they need to give us the information that is required under the Weapons Act 1990. The best part of the job is the comradeship of my fellow workmates  and the fulfillment when a client says thank you.


The job and salary are fine but once you get injured the 3 personnel on Sick NBank committee have the power to NOT support you as they did with me - after 8 injures on the job and multiple operations the last op required a neck fusion from an injury on the job - they decided not to support me ie. NOT pay me any wages for 6 months then offered me medical retirement which I took. No other choice. Shame on you so go get independent Income insurance if you can get it very difficult. If you are a cop and working in an office job no contact with the public you can get income insurance privately. Also as soon as you are sworn in get the maximum coverage of super life insurance use to be 32 units.

Typical day at work can be characterized as fast paced, time critical decisions to be made, variety of personalities calling for assistance, at times stressful in meeting demands and multitasking, and very rewarding and satisfying. 
I learned much about the Law, Policing, how to speak to and elicit critical information out of very distressed callers, and much much more.
Management in my experience were professional, and ethically addressed issues as they arose. I have fond memories of meeting and working with many great people. The hardest part of the job was night shifts. Leading to the most enjoyable part of the job, the satisfaction of knowing that what I did during my shift, made positive impact on outcomes, I was there for people facing some of the most traumatic situations in their lives. 


I joined the police service for a challenge.  It was a shock to the system and you can burnout quickly.  You have to be ready to see dead bodies and particularly dead babies.  You rely on you fellow officers to help and lead when things go pair shape.  You have to be tough and assertive.  You need to fit and healthy.  You need to listen to superior officers and not shop around to find the answer were you want. you need to be strong, tough and ready to go to any type of job.  There  is a lot of paperwork to do and sometimes you will need to come in early or stay late after a shift. a typical day at work can go fast if you are busy or slow if there is nothing going one. it is good when it is quiet.  Never disobey what a senior tells you.  You need to be neat and tidy, up to the day to day law changes.

A very challenging workplace, my manager was a very considerate lady and I love the morning team breakfast every 3 months.  
Enjoyed communicating with staff in Probation Parole Board, Police Officers, Watchhouses, and Courts.  
As a team member of traffic team my daily work consists of data entry of traffic offences with a quota of 100 documents.  This is the part I enjoyed most as I set up my own target which exceeded the set quota.  
The challenge rise as I answer enquiries from other team member or from other departments and doing other duties while focusing on exceeding the required quota set up by traffic team.
There IS NO BORING TIME in Queensland Police.

Everyday was different, which was the good thing about policing.  Worked with numerous people in varied and occasionally challenging situations.

Learned patience, tolerance, multi-tasking, persistence, mental and physical strength, a lot of law and policy, decision making skills. 

The hardest part of the job was knowing you can only help to a point, then your job is done.  Learned that people can do horrible things to each other, and sometimes the Courts get the decision wrong.

The most enjoyable part was working with a great team of like minded, enthusiastic people, and knowing you are making a difference in the lives of others.

A typical day is partnering up collecting all of your equipment for the shift, cruising your division and attending to jobs given to you via police radio or situations you come across in your shift.
I have learned the importance of being bale to confidently rely on your partner knowing they are trained up to a certain standard.
Also the many surprising behaviours people can display and how to read them.
The wonderful close bonds you form for a life time with your co workers.
The most enjoyable part of the job for me was being there to assist the community and keep them safe. Preforming a roll that is really necessary.

A typical day at work was checking emails & requests. Purchasing office supplies & staff PPE requirements. Reception duties including  answering the phone & front reception., computer data entry, filing, archiving, mail collection & distribution.
I learned how to purchase for my section & corporate card reconciliation.
Management are suportive.
Workplace culture was reviewing reports for accuracy to meet accreditation standards. 
The hardest part of the job was the death of a colleague.
The most enjoyable part of the job friendly staff & flexable work hours.
