When I first started with QR National I was a Customer Service Officer within the containerised freight area. The team and management worked well together and I gained alot of knowledge and experience within this job.

Then general management decided to merge containerised freight and retail freight together and relocate from the city to Acacia Ridge.

As my initial role was one where I got to set up freight trains for the month, monitor the weights and wagons on different services and do logistical work, the move to Acacia Ridge saw my role virtually change from Customer Service to being a Logistical Co-ordinator.

During this time I liaised with the Customer Service team and high tiered customers but also everything that related to Logistics being both road and rail.

So the role gave me enough experience to actually enjoy how each day was different and even though it had it's regular tasks, it was also the challenge of being involved with logistics mainly Rail Freight.

My typical day starts by having a safety meeting, and then to the work events of the day.  After this I ask if there is any concerns or questions from the staff.  I learned that team work and effective communication can make the job at hand a lot easier for everyone involved.  The management were supportive of us and eager to find better ways to do things.  My co-workers and myself all helped each other out and there was a great team environment.  Sometimes meeting targets could be difficult, but experience would make this task simplified.  Ending the day with no injuries and all targets met was the most enjoyable.

I have completed 4 years in Railway Industry. I started as a Graduate Engineer working in Signalling Design Engineering . I have done rotations in Signalling Design, Construction , Maintenance and Project Management.

The management is very good and supportive at Aurizon. They have always supported me and helped me get the right experience as desired.

My co-workers are very helpful and we work very well as a team.

Signalling Maintenance was very challenging where i spent 6 months in Mackay region and assisting all engineers and electricians .

Delagated duties to staff. Liased with management in with regards to crewing of trains and their relif. Learnt computer skills in tracking trains, crews and vehicals. Co workers were mostly happy to co operate. The hardest part would be when staff had reported in sick when it was a particually busy day and replacements could not be obtained, requiring to replan and repriortise.
Best part of the job was when plans came together with the desired results with out having to a reshuffle every thing.

Driving trucks from 4 tonne through to semi trailors,forklift and mobicon. Deliver whitegoods, food and alcohol and general freight, working in general freight yard and train yard and learning all the safety procedures to keep safe,which i find outstanding. Its good to see companies taking health and safety a lot more serious these days.

A company on it's way down. Strong competition has come along with new equipment and few problems. Very unsure of where or how they are going and no regard for workers. Very top heavy (management wise).

Great place to work, always felt safe always had the right tool for the job. The bigest down side was the jobs for the boys culture that has been there since it began this is evedent in the way people are promoted without the skillsto do the task at hand.

The working atmosphere was relaxed.  Members of staff are affable and helpful.  Friendly environment.  Definitely a company I would work at again. I got this interview through an agency and was hired straight away.

Good people and excellent place to work. Enjoyed working with the IT teams and with the CIO and working with other EAs. There is a great zero Harm policy throughout the company and safety is paramount.

I enjoyed working for QR National, they had a great working team and independent working environment. I had strict rules you have to adhere too for the safety of your fellow workers and passengers on the train.
