We are a 24/7 Emergency  assistance company dealing with clients travelling worldwide,who have purchased our insurance. Prompt telephone answering is THE priority - as we are invariably contacted for matters of emergency - as well as keeping calm, maintaining control of the conversation to ensure all relevant crucial details are obtained and notedl. I , like all of us in the team, have learnt to deal with a large degree of pressure - as clients contacting us are usually stressed, in an unfamiliar environment, and are wanting reassurance regarding their insurance coverage.  We on the other end,while there to assist,must also ensure that we are giving at all times,  the correct advice regarding coverage/limits/exclusions etc , based on the type of policy purchased - and we have a very large and varied portfolio. No 2 calls are ever the same. 
The hardest part of the job is going through the stringent insurance verification processes we must observe  before able to accept liability - especially if the client is hospitalised,and wanting us to confirm that we will take responsibility for the account - this can be timely - and extremely frustrating for our clients . 
The most enjoyable part of the job is when you can confirm that we accept liability!!!  As this removes the pressure from us - and our clients.
Our co-workers are a cohesive team and we often lighten up the mood by impromptu morning teas or afternoon teas.. It gets extremely intense in peak periods - Having said this, it now appears clients do travel a lot outside the peak seasons, so it is pretty busy all around, practically all year through. 
As we are a 24 hr service, we are used to operating  with a degree of automacy. Management is supportive, available on call at any time in matters of emergency when a decision needs to be made outside of normal working hours. 
I have recently changed from full time after 15 years of service,  to part time hours - which now mean 24 hrs per week (shifts of 12 hrs)

A typical day at work is busy and fast.  Indeed working closely with Brokers and/or Agents was satisfying as we were working together to achieve a common goal.

I have learned that my integrity and can do attitude created an agreeable ingredient between myself and the Intermediaries.  A workable relationship between us delivered the goods and policyholders were happy.

Management @ Underwriting was extremely helpful when assistance was needed to interpret complex underwriting and any discounts required to win an acceptable risk.  Also Company was agreeable when a visit to the Doctor was needed or breakdowns on the home front required to be attended to. 

My co-workers and myself worked together to help each other with workloads and to get our required target met.  It was a friendly and co-operative environment and it was a pleasure to be at work.

The hardest part of the job was negotiating increasing phone calls from Intermediaries at peak times of the year and completion of the days required workload.  However,  together with assistance from co-workers and time management skills helped to alleviate this on-going part of an everyday workload.

The most enjoyable part of the job was the satisfaction I felt when the Intermediary had attained their objective for their clients.  My assistance with their priorities and deadlines made my day.

I have been employed with QBE in the NSC workers compensation department for over 5 years.  I am a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual capable of providing support to management, team members and individuals.  I see myself as a role model to other staff members and always willing to help out within the NSC team.  Through my time working in the NSC I have been assigned to do various roles such as EFT Setup, processing CTP/TMF payments, medical certificates and General insurance underwriting policy schedules.  I have built a good rapport with my co-workers and managers and enjoy working with the NSC (National service centre)

Checking diaries, responding to emails and telephone calls as well settling claims. 

You learn to read people and negotiate not just the claims but also persuade other parties to contribute to settlements they originally refused to contribute to.

Management were ready to listen if you had good strategies and reasons for early or larger/smaller settlements.

Workplace culture mainly catered to the younger demographic, morning teas, cakes or lunches but was great when volunteering for charities.

Dealing with third party lawyers that were greedy and the procedural red tape.

Settling claims fairly and with savings.

My job is very busy. A typical day at work involves making decisions on workcover claims. Liaising with my manager and team members to review written rejection notices on denied claims. 

While the job is very busy, I manage my time very effectively and get all my work done within the time frames.
The team are supportive of each other and we all work together to ensure the claims are done. 

The hardest part about the job is dealing with the types of claims such as stress and serious injuries. It is also a lot of pressure and stressful at times.

The job is rewarding and each claim is different and it requires me to analyse information so I enjoy using my analytical skills and organisation skills.

QBE was a very good company to work for but in the later years senior management came in from the statutory classes and tried to apply their knowledge across into general liability. A number of legally qualified but inexperienced solicitors were employed in the lower echelon management roles but they had no experience in insurance litigation or their experience was very limited


Prior to this staff of my rank had control of all functions of the claims. As an example I had a standard authority of $1M which was increased on a needs basis. There was a good rapport between senior management, claims officers and service providors.

QBE allowed me to develop my skills as a Business Analyst. As QBE are a global company I became familiar with communicating with customers across the world. My typical day would include system testing, raising test incident reports, assisting in gathering requirements and providing user support.  The most difficult part of the job was being rostered on to provide 24/7 support for a week a month, which meant getting called at 3am to respond to support queries. The most enjoyable part of the job was the opportunity to build strong relationships with a variety of staff across several areas of the business, due to the global nature of the projects I worked on.

Company has been an enjoyable place to work with. My co-workers has been of great assistance as a team. I enjoy being part of this global company since the start of my employment wherein I have  attained a wonderful experience from one position to another due to progressession to a higher level.  I love learning new skills and sharing the best part of it to my colleagues. I would love to stay in this company if given a chance, unfortunately due to global restructing our jobs has been offshored overseas and we have to look for another position somewhere, hence this application. 

I worked in personal lines for over 1.5 years, it was a torture. If you know someone there, you can pretty much get away with not doing much work, getting full pay and promotions too. Qbe as a company has good policies for their employees as a whole but the management in personal lines is very toxic. Too much politics, nepotism etc etc, high constant staff turnover. I wouldn't build my career here or trust the management. Hope things change eventually the management is booted out.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Head of Audit Australia and my reporting Manager plus colleague, stakeholders were good. Very good learning experience at QBE. Flexible working environment 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Managers who did nothing more than mere delegation and complaining was the most stressful part.

Good Risk culture.
