Love sales and customer service, I have learned lots of paperwork and reporting and company policies.I find management virtually non supportive.  Work place culture frame work is set but it is all data collated and does not work on how hard your work or what you do to improve the business and promised incentives not forth coming as promised. The hardest part of the job is working on your own with only a 3 hr cover shift per day with the same amount of work and no help even when you ask after saving as many hours as you can for the company and expected to keep the same standards with a whole lot of preasure.  The most enjoyable part of the job is helping people find their needs and putting a smile on their face when you have found that for them and how grateful they are that they have had some old fashion service.

Upper management are unhelpful at the best of times. You will have no possibility for upward progression as even one of the most senior workers was denied a possible promotion. Don’t expect a pay rise for all your hard work with no hidden tricks to keep you around. If you enjoy; being bullied at your workplace, no work life balance, awful pay, the worst communication from upper management, questionable ethics then portmans is for you.

Typical day at work - greeted with negative comment & complaints. Poor managment communication/training of managment.  
The work is what you'd expect of retail. 
Staff unmotivated and gossip incessantly. 
All staff should be required to attend training/ re-training across all fields or rehired with staff that want to work, take pride in their job. 
Hardest part - listening to the same old complaints.
Most enjoyable part - leaving.


Bad management. Regional manger hated the cluster manager, so hated any employees under cluster manager and made their lives difficult once she went on maternity leave. Regional manager was never around, would never answer calls from staff in need and would very rarely return calls. She was known throughout the other brands for her horrible work ethic. Made work life miserable!

god the management is awful. thats literally all i have to say its horrid. many staff are super supportive and fun, but all (besides from those at dfo) figures in management/authority are public enemies 

they dont respect your life/free time/LITERAL EDUCATION at all. if they could, they would make you work 24/7 every week straight. 

Absolute worst period of my life spent working here. My colleagues and I were bullied and harassed every day without fail by regional managers and put under an enormous amount of stress.  Absolutely no enjoyment and extremely toxic work environment. Disappointed for the time I will never get back working at this horrendous company.

The women you work with on the shop floor are amazing, and the staff discount is very generous.  There can be unrealistic pressure for sales, but that pressure is generally only placed on Managers.  Overall, it is a pretty good environment, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for PT or casual work. 

upper management makes your experience awful. favouritism and it shows. expect to have your shifts cut if you’re a casual. they’ll promise you shifts but never rely on that because they’ll only use you when it’s convenient for them. so funny. 
it can be okay for work if you have a good store manager and team to work it!

my experience working for portmans wasnt that great as i wasn’t being treated properly and got picked on all the time for no reason, i wanted to do more but they wouldn’t let me and just made me do jobs that they weren’t bothered to do.
