Every day was busy, as we hit the ground running every day we worked.  We would arrive to work, meet to plan the days groups and meetings, buy items for usage by the service users, and we would follow through by initiating many groups such as homework clubs and baby book reading sessions involving the community.  This also involved the inter-agency working with schools and social work for those struggling to stay in school.  Strong management and leadership were in place and we had good working relationships with each other...this made things easier. Laughter, music and understanding were the tools we used most. The workplace was conducive to learning and growing, as the tools were provided by the most part by other agencies, like a television given by the fire department to teach fire safety.  The service users loved the flat, and it was used by the workers to aid the social workers to work with their at risk clients on a one to one basis.  My learning was a daily endeavour, learning how to not only look for signs of any distress, but to be a continous presence in the lives of these service users, building strong trusts with them.  Without trust, they will not take on anything we say or do with them.  On many of occasions, these same difficult service users stepped up to the plate to defend and protect me as a worker who protected them and their children.  It was a win-win situation most of the time.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Like any public sector job, funding is becoming increasingly limited even although demand has increased resulting in staff becoming demoralised as you are no longer in a position to give the  best possible service to your customers. Most managers are extremely supportive however there are some teams where managers do not seem to care less about their staff and fail to apply PKC policies and procedures. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I think it depends on which team or Service you are employed in. Staff morale can be low which isn’t helped by ineffective managers who seem oblivious, or reluctant to apply Council Policies and Procedures causing conflict. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The tasks are varied and interesting but again it depends on your tole and the service/team you are employed in.

Carrying out Food Hygiene Inspections.
Experience gained included inspection of various types and standards of Food Premises and Private Water Supplies; working with businesses and the legislative requirements and serving improvement notices where necessary; CPD in relevant subjects and aspects of the work; investigation of Food Poisoning and Food Borne Disease cases and Outbreaks. 
The management culture was top heavy, negative and displayed protective and incompetent behaviours. A number of very professional, competent officers left which was a great loss.
The hardest part of the job was the high number of meetings which impacted on time and the lack of confidence the team had in management and the constant changes in procedures.
The most enjoyable part of the job was the work itself which was both challenging and rewarding; seeing businesses improve through my input and so increasing in their level of legal compliance, efficiency and standards; good team work and increasing my level of knowledge; investigating the probable source of food poisoning and foodborne disease cases and prevention of outbreaks.

Life at Perth High School is never dull. We have 1500 pupils to cater for and it can be a very very busy environment to work in. The most enjoyable part of my job in to be able to help pupils accomplish and achieve. One of my main roles within the school is to administer the Outdoor Education department (Duke of Edinburgh Climbing Club etc), there are many different levels to achieve and many different areas to cover - Volunteering, Skill, Physical - that all pupils need to accomplish in order to gain their award (Bronze, Silver, Gold).  Communication skills are imperative within my role to both comunicate with internal and external clients.

As a parking attendant i was part of a team whose job it was to keep traffic flowing.
I really enjoyed working with my co- workers and also liked meeting members of public who were not always pleased to see us.
The down side was irate motrorists,but upside was when you could bring motorists round yo your way of thinking.
there was alot i learned within the job including repairs to parking tkt machines and also a lot of driving involved.
I am also a fully qualified first aider.
Now just lookig for part time driving or other suitable part time work

Worked with Perth & Kinross Council for over 15 years.
I feel that I was just a number, applied for many jobs but never gained interviews, don't know why jobs are advertised internally or externally as majority of the time they know who is getting the job. All earmarked for their favourites and relatives or friends.
The advertising is just a tick box that has to be done.
Jobs don't even need to be advertised as individuals have been slotted into jobs, and suddenly they have new job title. 
As for supervision or ERD lucky if you get it some get it on a weekly basis, or seems like that. These are the ones that get what they want. 
Unsupported through the pandemic. 


Every day is different, but there are times when you're running groups or have 1-1's over a period of weeks at set times.
The work is challenging because there are many referrals and a great need for support and you have to use your experience to engage in the work which needs priority.
Management has always been an issue as after our original founder moved on there has never been a management who has fully understood our role and supported us appropriately. 
The most enjoyable aspect of the job is always putting your clients first and seeing their progress under your support or other agencies whom you signposted them to.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Was on the bins for 13 years. Tried to get up the ladder with promotion. But my face didn't fit as I knew more about transport than the people interviewing me. Soon as I handed in my notice, surprise I was offered jobs. Politely they were told to keep their job. Better off now.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Trying to deal with management.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was great the men worked well together.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Once you were out the hard it was great. Just got on with the job.

Clueless unqualified and Inexperienced management, very low pay, very long hours, treated like a slave, broken or no equipment. Management refuse to manage anything. I've been in field and at a high level for 20 years and never come across such a bunch of such useless people as the ones at Perth and kinross council's friarton depot. They could do away with everyone above leading hands and things would work well while freeing up so much tax payers money.

The usual day is very busy as answering phones and updating spreadsheets with bins that were contaminated for the call centre staff, organising remainder of workload and prioritise what needed to be done first.

Make sure printouts were done in the afternoon for each lorry, make sure you received the daily email for special uplifts the next day.

There was always something happening, lorry breakdowns, usually a fun place to work.

Always learning new things about Ground Maintenance or Waste Disposal.
