Very busy position, providing support high level executive support to one Manager and one Executive Manager.

Gained valuable Local Government experience.  Dealt with Councillors, Deputy Mayor and the Mayor. Daily interaction with the General Manager and Assistant Manager as well as the Executive Team.  Also liaised with various MP staff.

The staff at the Council made going to work very enjoyable and I made life long friends.

The hardest part of the job was constantly having to meet deadlines.  It was very stressful.

I gained knowledge of Council computer applications such as Info Council (Council Reports), Exponaire (preparing locality maps), Enterprise Content Management (Council's record management system where documents were registered and management of task lists).

poorest work environment ever experienced  in my over 30 years long professional career,  penrith city council demonstrates quite a backward working culture based on hierarchical management, the culture of fear and exclusion, people are under appreciated for their efforts, the organisation has poor leadership, especially undertrained middle management and never visible upper management, there are very fancy formal hr policies but indeed there is no place for innovation or change...... 

General Duties of administration assistant.  Answering phones, typing, assisting parents with general enquiries, scanning documents, sending/receiving emails, laminating, binding, updating children’s files and room charts, diary keeping, making appointments, sorting mail, logging children attendances, newsletters, ordering stationary and filing staff/children paperwork

When there are reportable incidents if reported to the directors they try to supress the voice of staff and blames instead and play dirty politics. The director treat unequally and try to stop staff reporting incidents and lacks supporting staff. Very suffocating place to work, management is poor and hard to work in full satisfaction and get lots of work stress.

Learning how to properly work with children. The Co workers and Mangers are very understanding people and you will get along with everyone. Tip: if you do not have the Gut for poo, i wouldnt remmond this job. the best part about this job is the kids. teaching children and having fun with kids and walking into work and hearing 30 kids scream your name and run over for a cuddle is the best part of the job.

Overall had a good experience during my 1 week work placement whilst studying. The hardest part of the job was with the rangers seeing animals of which were mistreated or abandond. The most enjoyable part of the job was knowing we had made a difference in the lives of those poor animals.

Senior leadership team aren’t supportive. Organisation is more reactive than proactive. Not child and family focused whatsoever. Budget is heavily placed within the internal team, not services where it should be.
