my role was a MMU oerator that is a (mobile manufacturing unit)
we started every day doing pre starts on the LVs after compleating a take 5 for both the pre start and driving on a mine site then drove to the yard which was a 30min trip then we had morning bref  where we were informed what pit we were loading. we would do streches then go and pre start the vehicals and equipment. all needed to be isolated and taged out before the task was started and a take 5 compleated for every bit of equipment checked. we then compleated a take 5 for loading the mmu then loaded   
our trucks with the products we needed to make what ever explosive was needed for that shot.when we got to the shot we parked up the trucks chocked and isolated them then did a take 5 for walking on the shot before asking for promision to walk on the shot from the shot firer. we then planed the tmp with the shot firer and sighed on to it and then compleated a take 5 for the tmp. we walked the shot as part of the tmp planing prosess looking for hazards.we where then asighned a spoter and as per the tmp would start loading. we started the mmu and turned on the totem system to input the mixing rates for what ever product was needed.we would then drive down our asighned row and start the delivery of the product down the hole makeing sure not to run over the leds of the dets and boosters so i would not blow my self up. and all while making sure that i was delivering a good and correct product inputing hole kgs and makeing sure our spoter was doing the right thing.when we were almost empty we would need to climb on to the top of the mmu to bar down any product so we could empty out. of cause after we had put up the handrails chocked the mmu stoped the pto and taged out the mmu and compleated a take 5 for the task. when empty we filled out the docket book for the kgs deliverd and got the shot firer to sign it. then if he needed more i would go back to the yard to load up again.take 5s were compleated for every task and new ones if something had changed on a previous task.at the end fo the day we filled out our mmu logs fatigue logs and compleated the paper work for the loading dockets then a end of shif bref.
on top of this we changed our own wheels and the maintenance of the vehicals was our jod and brake downs were up to us to fix if we could or at least try all while adhering to the isolation and taging police and take 5 before every task and not including hot work or confined space permits .

A typical day at work is when you know you are going to be loading a shot and its going to be non stop all day. I have learned many skills including safety procedures,OH &S and loading explosives and blasting. Learning other skills from different shot firers. 

I enjoyed the first half of my employment with this company as we had a great team and leadership from our supervisor. The second half was more about competitiveness between management and team leaders which caused friction within the crew.There were safety issues that were not dealt with accordingly.

The crew that i was a part of worked very well together which meant that we all knew what each other had to do each day and did not second guess each other.

The hardest part of the job was not having a full crew everyday due to sickness, holidays, personal issues, or a staff member being stood down etc.

The most enjoyable part of the job was being outdoors, part of a team, comradery between the crew and accomplishing targets set by management and firing shots that we had just loaded.

A typical day is prioritising project deliverables.  I learned extensive documentation keeping including SAP and design preparation.  Other developmental skills included conceptual design (FEED),  equipment selection and calculations for datasheet generation, process understanding for BOD, process and procurement documentation, quotations, the interpretation and understanding of drawings, effective communication and computer skills.

I found that communication from managerial levels to workers were minimal with respect to company advancement, company status, career advancement and job security.  As a contractor and not a permanent employee this communication was even less.

Co-workers were very helpful and easy to get along with.  I found it to be a family atmosphere amongst the teams and others alike.

The hardest part of the job was learning the systems for obtaining information and guidance for the companies required work practices.

The most enjoyable part of the job was the variety of projects offered to you.

A typical day at work involved gathering materials to test for the rest of the day, undertaking different tests involving different measuring techniques and processes. It also involved cleaning around the lab to make a safe and neat environment, as well as assisting in the office with paperwork/ phone calls. By working with Orica i extended on my basic science knowledge through experience in different environments used for specific testing such as water, and plastic. The staff and management where all helpful and polite, and the training was constant and easily accomplished.

There are multiple bosses and too many persons to report to and all of them have a KIA - know-it-all behaviour who play the Safety card and eventually dictate the way a job has to be done this stress you out. Most leadership jobs are delegated downstream and end up long hours to complete the additional jobs. Poor planning and lack of personnel and eventually burn outs. 

Working for Orica was a pleasant and friendly environment, Management was very supportive and the staff were great to work along side off.  They had great job incentives and remunerations such as end of year bonuses and rewards throughout the year for work well done.  The hardest part about the job was taking abuse from customers whether they were in the right or not.  My favourite part of the job was when you were successful in helping a customer achieve their goals.

We need to be very organised to work at Orica. Especially in our field of water and waste water treatment, we would need to be updated with all process and procedures and regulations to be able to work in excellent conditions. Timeframes are our make criteria and it was very difficult to adhere to timeframes as there are so many departments to be coordinating and dealing with. The process manager would actually be a person at the office and would need to coordinate with the field personal.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Hopeless management. Couldn’t run a chook raffle 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everyday. Mayhem. Management. Don’t communicate with operators who are the backbone of operations but are treated like 2nd class

Work environment. Toxic  culture there’s only. Who can topple who 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Prepare for unorganised chaos

All operators / shot crews no what there doing all i have worked with are self starters .
Education within company is very high standard.                          Upper managment has lost touch with what really makes a company. 
The work place culture is very high standard on ground floor each employee i have meet takes there job seriously & with great pride .
The job has great job satisfaction on a day by day .

The culture in WA is micro managing. So much that a superviser can turn up to your house then blame you.! For taking time away from his wife. I do NOT reccommend this company to anyone as management is invasive, controlling and harrassing staff on a daily basis.Personal privacy was and has been broken.A culture pf dis respect greed and intimidation from managers. Arrogance.
