Optus Stadium

I genuinely enjoyed most of my time at Optus Stadium until this year. It's very flexible for casual staff, inclusive and provides extra support for those who need it, and the pay is satisfactory. I loved the people I worked with on shift and I made really good friends. It's fast-paced and a little stressful, but that suited me. It's a great job for full time school/uni students who just need something on weekends, but I wouldn't recommend it as a permanent job.

Firstly, management has clear favourites, and promotes those who schmooze up to them rather than those who deserve it, and demotes supervisors they don’t get along with if they make a single mistake.

Communication is subpar. Casual staff are not able to change their availability within 3 days on the roster website, so they have to contact the staffing team directly if they need to make changes. So it would make sense that staffing have to contact employees if they make changes to rosters within 3 days. However, they frequently make changes to shifts the morning of (even within a couple of hours) and expect employees to check their rosters constantly instead of sending a quick text about changes. 

I often felt overworked, and cried during shifts way too often. It was a "joke" amongst the casual staff to use the walk-in cool rooms for a quick cry, but I don't know a single person in the supervising team who didn't actually do that.

If someone was rostered as an F&B attendant, but did the role of a team leader on shift, they would never be paid as a team leader. Area supervisors would try hard to get people paid for what they did, but management never made an effort.

It's extremely clear to me now that such a big company values profits over their staff. I often felt undervalued and unappreciated for the amount of work I put into this job. My efforts, and that of my team's, were rarely even acknowledged by management, let alone appreciated.  I was employed for over 4 years and worked full time hours every week of AFL and cricket seasons in those 4 years. I was loyal to the people I worked with and put in 100% every day I worked. This year, I started experiencing burnout from all the hours I was putting in, but felt pressured to continue. When anyone asked for a day off, it was always met with guilt-inducing questioning from management. When I had to cut my hours down at Optus Stadium, I was demoted without warning or communication. My shifts had just been changed last minute without reason. 

I was hurt that the company I had given four years of hard work to cut me off simply because it was easier for them to just replace me. When I emailed to say I would be leaving permanently, the reply came from a staffing team member I had never met. My manager didn't say anything to me on my last day. There was nothing personal about it. It was just business. 

So, I wouldn't recommend working here for long if you want to have stable mental health. 

TLDR: It's a great place for students who want weekend jobs, not great as a long-term option.

I appreciated the chance to meet and bond with people from other departments & MASE Sales department and attend some incredible events. However, my overall experience was filled with unhappiness. The atmosphere in this department, shaped by management, felt toxic and unwelcoming. It was disheartening to learn that both past and present young women have similar negative experiences with this department and still don't feel comfortable speaking up. There was a lack of structured training for the role, and the cliquish environment made it easy to feel isolated. If you're someone with a tough exterior and don't mind being disregarded by others, particularly within the female workforce, this role might be a better fit for you.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The Permanent staff, 
*     signing in taking 30 minutes, 
*     not knowing where i will work UNTIL i sign in, 
*     the outlet leaders not knowing how to do their job,
*     the fact that I ended up doing the Leaders  role as the leaders were doing paper work or didn't know how to do their job
*     working in a role that i didn't apply for

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
the working environment was stressful.
The Casual staff (at my level) were great
The "management" types maintained a terrible work culture.
its not a culture - its they are better than us.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
no such thing as a typical day.... it is ... arrive and be stressed

Working at Optus Stadium has been a great experience and wonderful first job. The typical day at work was always a day I'd enjoy and be looking forward to even though it was very infrequent and once a week. 
The management team have been extremely helpful with getting my accustomed to a typical retail job and experience.
The hardest part of the job is getting very casual and short shifts. The most enjoyable part of working at Optus Stadium is definitely meeting a variety of people from all different environments and cultures.

Optus Stadium is a interesting work environment. it is a multicultural worker it doesn't discriminate anyone, fast pace working environment and on your feet all the times. Extremely busy at All special events eg AFL, Cricket, Rugby ect 

There is a wide range of different roles in a different industry from hospitality to customer service and many more to explore. They keep up with training extremely good

The uniform will vary depending on what section you working at but most of all extremely high stands on the correct uniform with O.S.H  

It has amazing views, it's a 5 level round building with a massive oval in the middle.

I have been working at Optus now for almost 2 years and genuinely enjoy my job. There are plenty of  job opportunities for all  skill levels and career paths as well as oppitunities for career advancement. It can be an extremely fast paced but it has an exciting fun atmosphere to work in on major event days with everything from  a range of sporting events concerts and functions.

Management - very organised, made sure you got a break when needed
Workplace culture - Anyone was aloud a job, boy or girl, any race
Hardest Part - Getting to and from work
Enjoyable - meeting the new people along the way and the environment

Optus Stadium is a great place to work - there are lots of opportunities to work in different areas to learn different skills. Whether you're serving hot dogs in the stalls, selling drinks in the coke carts on the ground level during a concert, or serving celebrities in the Premium suites, it is a fantastic atmosphere to be a part of!

While Optus Stadium is a big place and can be confusing at first to work out the team there amazing. Each and every shift you work is different but its always just as exciting. Plus the view is spectacular.  

Making great friends and learning new skills everyday. 
Management and workplace culture are very relaxed. 
The hardest part of the job is finding anything to do at the end of the shift. 
On a typical day is when I am in an outlet trying to get along with everyone including the supervisor or team leader.
