One Harvest

A typical day at work at One Harvest: Vegco, Bairnsdale was a touch experience. There was a lot of heavy lifting, quick thinking, product to produce. You had to be strong physically and mentally and be able to be incredibly flexible.
I learned that I can be an amazing worker when i put my mind to it and i can overcome difficult situations. I learned that i have to work hard and just how hard i can work, and how difficult a job can be.
Management was a mixed bag of relaxed and strict which gave me the unique opportunity to find my own pace and push me to work harder. All management staff though were always looking out for the team and hard workers themselves so we always got along.
Co-workers were a mixed bag as well, but we all knew that we were in this together and we supported each other and became close friends.
The Hardest part of my job was the less than ideal conditions. In 2 degrees i was expected to work in small, soaking wet places and that was difficult being 6'2'', but i made it work and honed my organisational skills to make it more bearable.
The Most enjoyable part of working at Vegco was the challenge. I had never been given a challenge so daunting than working in a fast paced factory environment. I rose to the challenge, and enjoyed being used to my full potential and beyond.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The supervisors where in my experience understanding and once I told them about bullying it was definitely addressed. 
And they genuinely cared about there staff.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some nights not knowing an exact finish time and being bullied in the beginning, I understand people get frustrated with the new staff because it's a fast paced environment. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
In the section I worked in on the pallet packaging it was mainly young people in there twenty, when I was new there where a group of people that would be unpleasant because I was new but once I got the hang of it and became permanent I was treated much better, then I noticed it was like that with every new person. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Start mid afternoon, because it was working in a freezer we rotate having breaks quite often, maybe every 3 hours you get a break but you have a break with a small group of people as it's rotating. 
Most of the shift was standing keeping busy on a conveyor belt line or packing boxes onto pallets and dropping pallets off is pretty physical work.

One Harvest gave me opportunities I am grateful for, however for a company whose motto was "Family First" this is definitely not the case. When it comes to life outside of work it is very hard to maintain a social life. As a Casual you can be rostered on with only 12hrs notice and be expected to drop plans to attend your shift. The company class a standard shift as 10hrs, Daily overtime isn't until 10.5hrs (not after 8hrs) , weekly is after 42hrs (not 38hrs). its a 7day rotating roster and don't be surprised if you see yourself working a 6day week. Also no shifts have a finish time, you finish when production is complete. That means that 12hr / 14hr / 16hr shifts are not out of the question. Also Maintenance are never given the time to fix multiple issues correct so zip ties are the result.

While my immediate manager was great, the ones above him and running the company simply have no clue.  You've got the two face department head that says one thing down, and a completely different thing up, must always be right, and has no people skills.  You have the CEO who is only there because of who owns the business, not due to skills, or knowledge.  Then his immediate underlings that were either let go or left, moral improved and then brought back in and immediately staff turn over went through the roof again.  I'm also not talking the process workers, but across the business.
It is a company that has many bosses but absolutely no leaders.

I liked this job because co-workers made u feel comfortable and never hesitated to give u a hand they teach you how to do the job well. I've gain more machine operating skills and also batch recipe's.A typical day at work would be getting out late maybe some time finish too early always reached targets.management is pretty poor because if they have problems or make mistake's it falls back on our team and forces people to wanna leave early or just not wanna come in too work witch made it harder for people that do stay and do come to work. There's nothing hard about the job its pretty straight forward and the most enjoyable part of the job is to know u have a team that looks out for you and also the environment is welcoming.

One Harvest was the most full on job i had working 12 to 16 hours for 2 years. One harvest is where i learnt to work with different machines and where i really felt what it was like to work under pressure I learnt to become a team leader and also gained my level 3 certificate in food processing. Management was good the co workers were family which made harvest a fun place to be weather working long hours. The Hardest Part of the job was really hitting the targets so we wouldent miss the trucks leading to almost losing our contract with big businesses. The most enjoyable part of the Job was the people i loved being apart of the one harvest team.

Culture in the business is getting worse.  
Too many managers are in it purely for themselves, take all the good things and blame everyone else for anything else.  
Passing the buck should be the biggest skill learned in the business.
Some of the staff were very nice, and the prime reason anyone stays more than a couple of years.  
I really liked all the unpaid overtime that was required.
The most enjoyable part was definitely the day after resigning.

There is opportunities to learn different areas,early shifts & people all get along

It’s only seasonal work so not enough hours when it’s quiet in winter

Very cold 
It would be better if there was more training

Priority orders, if needed

Worked here afew years ago and it was a horrible experience in regards to the management. I was interviewed as a machine operator and was supposed to be hired as one but found out tgey were paying me at a pricess worker rate. No set hours sometimes you woukd come in and tgere was only 4 hours work and at otger times you were told it would be 10 hours. Management was horrible would be scolded for having toilet breaks or for wanting to drink water. Hopefully they have changed since I worked there

I worked at one harvest for a few years. Veru fast paced l. Nice people 2 work with. Some of the 2ic are really over there heads  its 7 day rosters. Sometime not even getting 2 days off in a row. If you work at one harvest thats your life forget about a life outside of work. Even if you want time off say to go to a family bday or anything its a big hassle to even get those days off. Feels like your always fighting for your rights with management.
