A typical shift would include, opening all registers in the store and making sure all correct money was in each one. Turning on the machines used in the print and copy area. Setting up any kind of displays that would be needed for the day, (i.e. laptops opened and switched on, photo print machines switched on, taking out any signage or stock to the front of the store). I would typically complete any print and copy jobs for customers, this includes both booked jobs and walk ins. Help customers with anything in the store. Serve customers on registers. And if I was on a late shift, I would have to close all registers and put away and count up the money at the end of the night. Turn off any machines or equipment. Bring stock and signage in from the front. Close laptops. Close and lock up the roller door. 
I learnt about printing, binding, laminating, making banners, photos, using a guillotine, taking passport photos. I learnt about technology specifications, and how best to help customers in choosing the right thing. How to do all the banking in the store, what was needed for each till. How to do back to school booklists. And a lot of other small things. 
In general management of the store was okay. There was a lot of passing of the buck and not much leadership. This is the main reason I left the employment of Officeworks. 
All staff were friendly, it was like a small family. 
The hardest part of my job was actually working with my partner at the time, and we also split up will working together. Never again. 
The most enjoyable part of my job was doing printing jobs. I loved to see a customers face when something gets done to how they wanted, it is very satisfying. 

Overall, Id say working for Officeworks is a great place to start and you do learn so many different things.

Fun workplace with a lot of support from the Store Leadership Team (SLT) as well as the team members. Everyone is on the same page in regards to the days targets and sales objective. SLT places specific focus on personal, team and customer safety which they implement though regular quizzes to sharpen out safety instincts. During stressful situations, especially during tax time and back to school, it is emphasized how important it is to ensure customers know you haven't forgotten about them as well as acknowledging the unfortunate circumstances but ensuring them that a solution will be reached. A downside to the job is when customer cannot find what they are looking for in our store and they either have to go to another Officeworks store or another retailer. When I'm not working at the registers I'm part of the stationary team and we're responsible for ensuring the all new products delivered are on the shelves, the stores looks neat and tidy and well as restocking shelves with products from the overhead. Ensuring the store is aesthetically pleasing during busy periods is difficult but made possible by having multiple people target different sections of the store. The physicality of loading and unloading stock from shelves, pulling heavy stock trolleys and walking up and down a ladder can be quite challenging.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
If you do well at your job, you get rewarded with also being able to do someone else's job. Others including area managers will take the credit for your hard work. The wrong people are awarded  even for their racist behaviours because they identify as another gender so they are untouchable and are rewarded with being allocated to a full time position when they couldn't even do part time hours. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
If you are part of the "in, lucky groups" you'll be fine. But if you voice your concerns or have a different suggestion you will be shunned for it. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Having to deal with doing 3 people's jobs in one in the morning of putting tickets out, because other team members don't like doing it. Then standing on the door and serving customers. Don't try and ask for help over the headset because you will be lucky to get a response from other team members that pretend that they don't hear you. Officeworks is not a team environment if you aren't already friends with the SBM or the coordinators

I worked under a UX Manager who lacked both the communication skills and leadership experience required for the role. Tasks and expectations were rarely clarified, there was no structured feedback process, and responsibility for unclear direction was often pushed onto designers rather than addressed at the management level.

Despite being relatively new to the position, she appeared unwilling or unable to provide the guidance needed to move projects forward or support less senior designers. Instead of fostering collaboration and growth, the environment felt driven by ego and gatekeeping.

Communication and people skills were particularly poor. Interaction often felt selective and exclusionary, with attention directed toward individuals she considered more “important,” while junior and mid-weight designers were frequently overlooked. Overall, it created a disengaging and unsupportive working environment.

Officeworks are a supportive and inclusive work environment, with the team members being the highlight of the experience. The work is relatively easy no matter what department you're in (aside from Print and Copy where things can get hectic) and the programs that are used internally are easy to navigate. Both casual and part-time pay rates are above the minimum with bonuses provided occasionally at the end of the year/prizes for fundraising events. 

Any issues I've experienced have been a result of it being a retail environment. Customers are often irritable and difficult to communicate with (particularly in the Printing department). They can sometimes cause issues, but management try to back their team up well in these situations. If you have a good set of managers, things are a breeze but having one that is incompetent or rude can bring the whole vibe of the store down. Also had some issues when becoming a keyholder where I never ended up being paid extra for my considerable extra workload. 

- Company means well with it’s culture and policies but the store management is incompetent and the store work environment is toxic.
- Team members are expected to work in every department all the time due to inadequate rostering - severely understaffed.
- Good for a short term or job while studying.
- Store management do zero follow up and it is left for a small number of team members to fix others mistakes and laziness. Zero accountability on management.
- Zero long term progression or career development.
- Pay is lousy compared to other technology retailers - no commission at all.
- Company has a focus on health and well-being but any issue that is bought up they push aside. If you have a problem you are told to use employee assistance program because the company does not care.

Officeworks is the leader in the office supply and solution industry. 
A typical day at work would be to be prepare myself for meetings with clients and offer them a better solution for their company, build rapport and retain their business. Business development was mixed thorughout the day, following up leads and building a pipeline through cold calling. Daily reporting was made using a CRM system.
Management was supportive with any issues or questions I may have had as well as my team/co-workers. Invaluable they are.
Challenges I face on a day to day basis would be a slow turn around with new accounts opened, due to lack of support with our internal sales support team. Not their fault, but perhaps a better system or procedure could be implemented. This can affect the closing of a deal or new customer.
Obviously the most enjoyable part of the day is when new business comes on board and/or a deal is closed. Easily the highlight of the day.

A typical day at Officeworks consisted of arriving 15 minutes to half an hour earlier for the shift and then counting the money in the registers, doing face up and making sure there is stock on the shelves as well as on the floor. 

I learnt what it means to be a professional, how to deal with customers, prioritising time, attention to detail, 

I learnt how I liked to be managed and what I respond well to and what I do not respond well to. Working at Officeworks was also the first time where one saw potential within me for any kind of an authority position. 

Working at Officeworks gives one life long friends, the co-workers are incredible. There is great team morale and an overall positive environment.

Hardest part of the job was dealing with certain politics from higher up. Overall however a positive experience.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the environment, the co-workers and the financial stability.

One of the great things about Officeworks' culture is the emphasis on safety and awareness. Everything from the attitude of regular team members right up to the CEO's vision is geared towards looking out for your colleagues and making sure that everyone is an equal participant in the day to day running of the store. 

While the work is simple and mostly straightforward, being able to socialise and interact with the mostly young staff is a must. Most of the enjoyment in a job like this comes from the relationships you build with your team members.

However, sometimes the vision of the upper management does not line up with the reality of each individual store. When that happens, workers will often put in extra hours to make sure we reach the standards set, but doing so over an extended period of time, for example during the Back To School sale, can be very draining.

I have worked here for much longer than I would recommend someone should (over 10 years.)
The job itself is easy, Management don’t expect too much from you, however there can be many difficult customers and even if you are following ‘store policy’ Management will easily give in to the customers demands repeating the old “just this once” mantra.

Alot of the people hired at least at the store I worked at are friends, relatives or partners of staff so you aren’t always getting the best employees.

Officeworks sell alot of technology items which in turn leads to alot of items returned for being faulty or people simply being over whelmed by using them.
This leads to alot of angry customers, honestly there is quite a substantial amount of abuse hurled at employees.

As I said I wouldn’t recommend this job long term, it can be quite emotionally draining.

The pro’s would be that the job itself, as in the tasks aren’t difficult and the pay isn’t bad either.
