A typical day at work for Novo Shoes is welcoming customers to try our latest shoe designs, receiving opinions as well as giving opinions to customers and other team members. Working as a team, we like to work towards reaching our targets, up selling and  making sure our customers receive the best service we can and for them to leave the store satisfied with their experience and to know they are welcomed back anytime. 

While working at Novo Shoes, I have learnt how to communicate with customers and have an understanding of what they are wanting.I have also learnt how to run the store, including opening, closing, transfers, receiving deliveries into the system. 

Management within the stores are very easy and understanding to communicate with. They keep on top of everything and make sure that if there is any concerns within the staff members and customers is approached and fixed as soon as possible. They have pushed me to become more confident in not only myself but within the company.

Unfortunately my experience with an area manager was quite unpleasant, and when this area manager has discussed by other Novo Shoes employees was very much known as a bully within the work place. Many employees do feel as this area manager was not someone they could go to with concerns, as they were worried they'd be verbally attacked. To many this area manager isn't what a manager should be. A good manager would try push their employees the succeed within the company, not drag them down every chance they have.

The employees at Novo Shoes are very welcoming and honest, they work as a team across the majority of store. They are happy to  help each other out when needed. 

My favorite part of working at Novo Shoes, is seeing customers happy with the service they have received and walking out of the store happy and confident about their purchase and look forward to returning to the store in the future knowing that they'll get the service they want every time. I also enjoyed meeting many different people within all the Novo Shoe stores.

Each shift there would be appointed jobs set in addition to customer service. These were simple enough, just general upkeep of the store, stock and paperwork.

The most enjoyable part of the job was the people I work with. I got along with the majority of novo employees and thoroughly enjoyed working with them. Each manager I've worked with was great. They were open to suggestions, treated you with respect, and were understanding of my university commitments and were always flexible with my hours, especially around exam time. They were great with training, and taught me how to manage a store in an effective and straight forward manner.

Upper management, so state manager and up aren't so great. On many occasions they refused to pay us for hours owed. Once I had to remain back on a Saturday night until quarter past 7, two hours after my shift had ended, as the main door was broken and I had to wait for a repair man before I could leave. We were told we would be paid for the two hours. Three weeks later they finally paid us, but only paid us for 1.25 hours. Occurrences like this happen often where upper management treats you as though you are replaceable and not worth anything to the company despite each worker fulfilling their duties to the fullest. 

Also some of the policies upper management creates don't work as well in practice, but they don't take our opinions into consideration even though we use them first hand and have valuable feedback. We are told to follow these policies, yet when customers won't us to break them and we of course don't, they complain to head office and then we get in trouble for having poor customer service.

In this position I learnt the importance of excellent customer service, money handling and merchandising skills. I was required to clean and maintain the store daily, answer phone calls and communicate with other stores, collect in-coming stock, manage stock control, and meet daily sales targets. 
I loved going to work and being able to help customers. I enjoy going above and beyond for customers and exceed their expectations. I believe building a rapport is important, and I love to build that positive relationship with all customers. I love knowing the customer has had a positive experience and walks away happy.
Working with my two co-workers was enjoyable and we were able to get into a routine and help one another with our experiences and knowledge. My manager was supportive and taught me a lot. The hardest part of my job was not being able to help some customers  but the most enjoyable part was being able to make a positive difference to a customer, such as helping them find the perfect heels for their formal or wedding.

This place is all sunshine and daisies at first till you start to see how rigged some of the the stores policies  are (the returns policy for example) and how unorganised and unfair upper management are to the people who are actually in store selling their expensive yet low quality shoes. The store I came from had an area manager and state manager who disregarded and undervalued my store manager, overworking part timers and rejecting leave requests made with ample time, not to mention contradicting themselves and bending the rules or making up new ones on the way as long as it fits them. You were only treated well if you sucked up to them and I only stayed for as long as I did because the girls I worked with are amazing people who I’ll stay in touch with. 
Keep your distance from this place if you don’t want mental health issues. 

Upper management have unrealistic goals set for their staff and only focus on the negatives, never giving any praise, encouragement or acknowledgement of hard work. 0 staff incentives unless it comes from the hard earned pocket of your store manager who is most likely copping a lashing from head office and their sales hungry, obscenely high expectations, particularly in their outlet 
stores. Ridiculous claims that outlets are selling too much sale stock and not enough full price? Sorry but outlets were literally created for the intention of moving older sale stock, people come in for a bargain and they get one. If you’re concerned with the amount of sale stock selling then stop putting so much stock on sale. Simple. No loyalty to hard working staff and overall brand integrity is questionable.
Team members are great! Can be a fun place to be if you have a lovely manager and 2IC like I did! Generous staff discount and regular shifts.

a typical day of work would consist of opening up the store, getting the till/eftpos ready, making sure the store is presentable, that shoes were refilled, music was turned on and you were set to go. the main thing i learnt at novo was time management skills, from having to have 95% of the set tasks completed in the time frame you were working, to it rubbing off onto me in my daily life - definitely something i appreciated. at novo we were a close knit team, the 5 of us were such good friends and it made work such a desirable place to be... in all honesty there was nothing hard about this job, once you learnt the lingo of your tasks and the things you were shown to do, the rest just came naturally; although as much as i loved receiving new stock and scanning it through, my favourite part of the job was helping customers pick the perfect shoe or bag to match their outfit !!

I loved everything about the work, from working with shoes, to interacting with all of the customers. The group of girls I worked with were the best! 
Very competitive and fast past environment. My manager was lovely but unable to efficiently manage her crew unless she was IN store. 
You can almost never have a day off without being contacted. 
I was constantly underpaid hundreds of dollars per pay and even though I bought it up multiple times they didn’t bother to fix it until I quit and threatened to call fair work. 
Even after paying me back some of what they owe me, they still haven’t fully done so. 
The work in itself is great, but the company not so much. 

The managers of this company do not seem helpful at all, there’s a lot of issues with the way they handle their business and staff are often unhappy with rosters and overall company management. They rather hire new staff with improper training than to give opportunities to those already working hard, majority of the new hires give in their leave notice due to stress and neglect from higher management. The work and store team is good and fun but the management is garbage.  

I was hired with promises of hours of at least 10-15 hours and was only given 6 a week. The pay due to my age was minimum and not sustainable. 

Fast paced, beautiful store setups, management is friendly, work culture is great, the only thing I did not like about the job was that they are very strict with the hours you work, so do not expect to get more than 15 hours a week as a part timer or casual employee. They wont even pay you for staying back to close the store - which is the one thing I did not like about working at Novo since it is illegal (though it is not managements fault since they are trained to manage their stores in this manner, it's higher management's fault). The best part of the job was the employee discount and how routine a typical day at work was.

Believe all of the negative reviews as they're true.  You are frowned upon for going to the toilet in a 5 hour shift. You are frowned upon for having your legal 10 minute break.  You are frowned upon for taking your lunch break, most work through it to please management so they're not excluded and stay favoured. You will regret working here as there is a blame and shame culture from upper management.  It's a toxic work environment and an overpowering mentality through the whole company.
