What is the best part of working at the company?
My placement at Northern Hospital was extremely disappointing. The culture is toxic, and I encountered bullying and a very hostile attitude from staff members. As a nursing student, I felt unsupported and overwhelmed by the negative environment. It was a very distressing experience that affected my health. Professionalism and student support are seriously lacking here.

Toxic. Toxic. Toxic. Stressful

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Awful. Awful.Awful. Uncomfortable

At the Northern Hospital, a typical day there was fun and an amazing environment to learn new things each and every day that you didn't know before, like how things run at the hospital. What the colour codes meant in times of an emergency like code blue and so on. They taught you safety procedures in case of an evacuation as in where to go for your safety if it ever occurred.

Doing volunteer/ observation at the hospital especially in the nursery, taught me so much in 4 days then I did before about how the hospital ran the way it did, with helping assist patients and all their research towards the new born babies. Making sure they were healthy and alright to go home with their parents as soon as possible.

There has been a management change with CEO having resigned. Presently we have an interim CEO and changes are occurring within the Organisation. Doctors and nursing staff are very dedicated in their work and mostly fun to work with. Good work environment. The hospital is rapidly expending growth in this region. Because of lack of funding cuts have to be made. As a result everywhere cuts are made including staff working hours. I'm on bank and as a result have seen my income drop more then 60% over the past 2 months.

- All clinical areas are severely understaffed
- Compromised patient care
- Unvaccinated staff fired without notice despite their level of experience
- Cost savings over patient care
- Front line clinical staff are putting themselves at risk of disciplinary action by the hospital or AHPRA. They are also placing themselves at risk is litigation for failure to carry out their duties despite being understaffed and having increased workload.


Start shift with medication round. move onto set up for breakfasts
 and showers. May require to do some hospital admissions for afternoon surgeries. after morning break move onto dressing changes, and continue with medication rounds. set up for lunch. may require to pick up patients from surgery, then would require frequent monitoring of patient. end of shift once handover completed.

the hospital environment isn't always the nicest but working here i got a very good insight as to what goes on in there on a daily basis. i would serve tea and coffee to outpatients waiting long hours in reception, visit the children's ward and play board games, video games and draw with the little ones, the hardest part of the job was emotionally not physically, just seeing some people in pain and suffering was very hard for me, but making people smile and chatting to the patients made the work worth it.

Worked with some great people, however told on many occasions I was only admin and that nurses mattered more in this environment.... passed down from ‘Team Leaders”

I worked in Day surgery for 14 months as a Volunteer and also worked in People & Culture as paid staff for 5 months.  I worked with Lovely people willing to help me out very busy Hospital.

excellent experiences working at the Northern Hospital, worked mainly in the emergency department in all area's, general, paediatric, 
psychiatric using and developing my skills and education

I was only a temp and budget cuts to hospitals stopped me becoming permanent.  Everybody was welcoming and I loved working with them.  The best part were the breakfast BBQ's
