I had been told by the manager it took months to learn everything correctly. After three weeks I was on my own opening and closing. My manager took advantage of me and used me as a human slave. She would work me to an absolute sweat trying to complete every daily task almost on my own and took credit for it. She would go to lunch at 12 and eat into my lunch and usually leave me with 20 minutes left of my ONE hour lunch break for OVER three months.. until I started taking the full hour even if she would take a two hour lunch and the lunch cover worker would leave. She would ALWAYS make a point though of how hard it would be and how stressed she would be on her own while I was on break (we started at the same time everyday and I wasnt eating until 1:30-2pm each day). I would have to stay late after she would ask me to do an extra task 20 minutes before leaving for the day almost every time. I was late to get my children from their schools multiple times and as such asked to swap hours with a girl who was willing to as she worked the school shift 9-2. I was still willing to work the Thursday night and both days of weekend on a rotating shift. After having boxes fall on my head due to her lack of management and it not being reported aswell as after our talk of me needing to be able to pick up my kids on time as the ONLY mother with school age children working there. She put me down for EVERY weekend and full day shift 9-5:30 for 5 weeks straight with one day off in between each 6 days. After weeks of not being paid or being paid incorrectly and being hundreds of dollars behind in school fees I boiled over and quit, I couldn't handle it. If the management had changed in store I would have stayed as I made great friends!

Management are hopeless.
They have no clue what actually goes on during a day on the shop floor. 
Management calling stores when your sales are low and requiring you to have conference calls while you are on the shop floor all by yourself. Not appropriate to take conference calls when by yourself and you have customers.
Constant promotional changes that cause headaches and  confusion for customers.
If you have a boss that has it in for you for no reason, good luck trying to get shifts. A lot of nasty and disgusting behaviour from managers.
The company isn’t supportive at all to it’s employees and frequently dismiss requests for permanent employment.
Pays frequently wrong and it’s near impossible to be paid what you are owed.
You may meet one or two great women along the way but that’s about it. 
My advice, find a company that will actually value you and your worth.


Unfortunately I worked with a manager who was more interested in herself than any of the staff. Employees were setup to fail, however after helping in other stores it was a very different environment & lovely people to work with. I often did not get paid due to manager either forgetting to authorise my pay or made some mistake which led to making phone calls to payroll and manager to correct. Middle management is a joke!
If you had a great day of sales you were not even recognised but if a slow day you were constantly receiving phone calls to up your game. You were expected to do all your training in your own time and then quized whilst you had to continue serving customers.

I was given a casual position. Was treated like a second class citizen because the manager I worked for did not interview me. 
All up 6 hrs work.  There is so much pressure on staff to sell.. Was told if customers had returned merchandise they had bought online, I was to talk them into returning it by post so it wasn't a return on the stores system. My manager was talking elderly customers into leaving their purchased goods with her and to wait till she mailed them back and then they would be reimbursed in time.(what a way to treat customers) All this so she didn't have returns show up on her system in her store.  Was sent to another store (same company) in the same shopping centre where the manager there was so desperate to sell she was insisting that I need to haggle with customers.

A typical day at work entailed offering exceptional customer service, with the focus on understanding the customers needs and building a rapport with them. I learned much regarding multi sales, KPI's, workplace health and safety, working to meet budgets and training the staff in all of the above. I had a good rapport with co-workers, but the hardest part of the job was feeling underpaid for the workload and responsibility that comes with a management job. However, this is not a reflection on the company I worked for, but retail in general. The most enjoyable part of the job was interacting and helping customers and having job security.

the only good thing about this company is the team members in your store. It is like being in the trenches with your mates. A typical day at work involves endless VM changes, unpacking up to 100 boxes of stock, changing offers half way through the day because the current sale "isn't working". They expect you to be in the store at 8.30 am but don't pay you until 9-00am, Micro-management is out of control, constantly being expected to send in forms or photograph displays and use our personal phones to submit to head office. OH&S standards are non-existent because of the amount of boxes of stock you are expected to cram into tiny back rooms

I was employed as a casual at  Noni B. I only worked on Saturdays mainly. 
I found the training provided could be better.
The atmosphere in the store was always frantic but I think the manager was partly to blame for this. 

The clothing storage area in the back of the shop was an OH&S disaster waiting to happen. It was almost impossible to access high or low. hanging clothing without almost killing yourself, opened boxes left  all over the stockroom representing a hazard to all staff, no seating provided to eat lunch, you stood for your entire shift and no tea or coffee facilities provided.

Low traffic location meant meeting targets was very challenging and when they were met little to no recognition of achievement - no support from middle/upper management who were unresponsive to concerns and victimised staff of underperforming stores in a public manner. Poor staffing levels, poor process for staff management, some staff are encouraged by middle management to undermine other staff members. Poorly managed stock allocation and replenishment system through warehouse. Team members for the most part are supportive and make coming to work a pleasure.

Worst place i have ever worked rude manager is very clicky with one other staff member and complains and criticises other employees in the team group chat based on their outfits and if they have finished the extensive list of things to do alone in a 3hr shift while serving customers would not recommend working here constant changes in the work shedual with little to no notice and then complaining when unavailable if you had the choice to work here or literally anywhere else pick anywhere else save yourself the time and trouble.

Noni B was a family owned business but it changed in 2014 and is now very much corporate run with a focus on growing the business - no matter what.
Growth in business is good, but sometimes growing too quickly and putting people through constant changes and more and more demands can result in unhappy, over-worked, disgruntled people.
If you like the challenge of that, then that's the new world of retail.
