A typical day at work would take place as follows: 
Polish and clean DVDs
Return DVDs
Til operations
Answer customer inquiries both in person and over the phone 
Opening/closing of the shop  (counting of til, shutdown/reboot of computers and programs, bank detailing, security measures)
The Job security was not great as the owners constantly made every worker feel insecure in their role by talking about employees behind their backs as well as in front of customers. 
My co-workers and I got on very well, always helping each other out in our duties. 
The hardest part of the job was dealing with unsettled customers and  broken goods being returned. Often the two came together e.g A broken DVD is returned- staff call them or talk to them about it, every time the customer would get defensive and say one of two things: "it was like that when I got it" or "it wasn't me, you must have broken it after I returned it." These situations were quite difficult to deal with as we had to resolve the issue without making the customer feel victimized.
However, the most enjoyable part of working at Network Video is the opportunity to receive so much feedback about movies and I am therefore able to pass that knowledge along to other curious customers. Successfully helping customers fills me with a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Solo shifts in the relatively small work space allowed us to control our work environment effectively without having to co-ordinate with other staff members about completing tasks, giving us a great deal of responsibility to ensure we packed down, cleaned up and served customers without error. With no-one to guide us on a daily basis apart from ourselves, it taught many of the staff basic lessons on how to deal with customers empathically and swiftly, how to prioritise and motivate ourselves to perform tasks and how to manage a business (e.g. in preparing the store for opening or closing so people could rely on the opening times available to them).
Although we got no experience working with other staff, there are many skills that we picked up from working at Network Video, including: learning to take initiative; understanding and working with other people's needs to fix a problem, rather than relying on more experienced staff to resolve issues; and being receptive to the movements of customers and responding appropriately (e.g. saying "hello" and smiling to welcome the customer into the store).

A typical day at the shop is very quiet, because of downloading, Foxtel, Netflix and other similar services, DVD rentals are in decline, we fill our time with cleaning and tiding the store, but still the days can be long. Because it is a relaxed environment it dose allow opportunity to get to know the few regular customers and build a rapport with them. My co workers are a friendly bunch, but the job usually only requires one person to be in the shop, so I spend very little time with them, as for my perspective on management I believe that they feel indifferent towards the business. The hardest part of the job is getting through a typical day, I like to be active, challenged and social which I experience none of these things on a typical day; however there is an up side as the most enjoyable part of the job is on a Friday and Saturday night, where business can pick up, the shop can be a buzz with people and chatter, and this is when I shine in my job role.

My husband and a business partner own the business.  I work many shifts there, without pay, to cut down on overheads.  Video stores used to be thriving, but with downloading, Netflix, Stan etc. happening, it is only a matter of time before we close.  

I enjoy helping customers with their choices and information and have regular pleasant customers.  On the other hand, the worst aspect of my job is telling people they've broken a disc and need to replace it.

At Network Video, I've gained more customer service as well as computer skills over the past 2 years. Also I have learned how to document customers memberships on the computer, sign up a new member etc.

I have also made new friendships with other employees at work and get along with customers very well.

At work, I love making new membership cards, restocking drinks, ice-creams and confectionery and also serving customers. There isn't really a hard part of my job, but I really enjoy it.

Typical duties included customer service, calls to customers regarding reserved movies and late fees, general maintenance of store by tidying shelves and maintaining a high standard of presentation.

Co-workers were generally friendly and helpful, and training was adequate to provide a comprehensive knowledge of basic duties, and to provide a high level of customer service.

Work 4-6 hours usually on Tuesday's or weekends, with a team of young vibrant girls that were so easy to get along with and work with. Hardest part of the job if computer difficulties as they malfunctioned quite often, leaving customers waiting long times to receive DVDs. This was both stressful and irritating as the system has never worked efficiently.

Overall, all staff and employees are hard and nice workers apart from one who was very unprofessional. I didn't receive many shifts and low pay. Other than that it was a fun place to work and gain experience.

I really enjoyed my time working at Network Video. I started of as a junior and after about one and a half years there I was promoted to shift manager where I had greater responsibilities. This included money handling and higher level customer service i.e. dealing with complaints.

Typical day involves returning dvds, keeping shelves tidy, serving customers and light cleaning.
My hours were quite flexible, however when I worked I was the only one in the shop.
I learned a lot about dealing with all sorts of customers and satisfying various needs and wants.
