National Broadband Network

It is a long-term project which is to provide faster and proficient internet service throughout Australia and its business economy. They provided training, work vehicles and all the necceassary tools and equipment. The technical side is identifying problem area where some locations and communication pits have already existing cable. Have to be handled to avoid disrupting other connecting lines. Being the early stages before enabling the splicing  part of work. we are required to run madrills which prove the amount of area needed to manouvre the fibre optics. The work in the field is great, but until if and when it rains, work comes to a hault. Uniforms and over-time is provided, and opportunities within are available. I enjoy and intend on pursuing further work in this area of telecommunications. Unfortunatley, the company I worked with has had lost its contract on the NBN. I am now seeking to continue its role where is providing the work.

A highly political workplace, where relationships and factions rule. Promotions of incapable people and the stealing of credit from others. 
I've learned how to survive in an environment where results don't matter but to show alignment to management, not to speak out, and not to take risks. 
The culture is all about promoting yourself and your manager. It's all about creating comms to do this. Getting things done is not important, telling others is, even if it's not your work. Being a government enterprise and a national monopoly there is a lack of accountability on performance.  
What could have been a great place to work, it has been spoiled by the corporate culture. If you want to achieve results and work hard, just don't expect to be rewarded.

A day's work begun with an early wake-up. On the job site, it was always different due to work in various locations across Melbourne. I learned a lot about the construction industry and gained many skills regarding the utility of tools. My co-workers were very friendly, and we were all focused on the job at hand. Team efforts were mandatory to complete a satisfactory, approved, installation. 

The hardest part would have to be the long hours out in the hot weather.

The most enjoyable would be working along side my team and meeting new people across Melbourne.

I work within the New Development sector

Delivering telecommunication infrastructure construction guidelines to developers and consultants. 

Assessing developer documentation (design plans) and reviewing customer application to issue a proposal agreement. 

Time prioritizing to ensure each application is progressing correctly through the appropriate channels 

Liaising with delivery partners to met customer delivery deadlines. 

Currently supporting management through an IT Business alignment.

.Dealing with unexpected data issues and collating with business and technical team to resolve and present reports.Learned how to handle complex and quick request in very short span of time and get it delivered with best quality work.
Management and work culture really support in delivering best outputs.
Dealing with different and conflicting stakeholders was one of the exciting part in this job.

Managing a programme of work in the OSS / Network Assurance workstream  for the implementation of Australia's national broadband network. At the time a young company with matrix organisation and a crazy number of stakeholders and complex interfaces to other work programs

Quite political, depends on your manager, and some are not good managers. Some colleagues have backstabbed me, probably to protect their own back, and management seem to encourage this or remain in this negative state. Systems and procedures are good.

NBN was build without any focus on culture and what has resulted is a hostile and feudal culture with clans fighting clans within the culture. Whilst there are good people there the overarching hostility removed any positive aspects of the workplace

Just like most government enterprise. 
Someday its a challenge to workout what you are trying to do ? Other are not so bad. 
There are better work place, too many people with their own agenda and too experts shouting to be heard. 
If you want to tell your kids and grandkids that you help build the nbn then this might be the place.

nbn's direction is driven by Federal political agenda, so there is considerable medium term uncertainty.

That being said, the people who work for the roganisation are committed, dedicated and entusiastic
