I loved working with the Team at Hunter New England Health & they were an extremely professional, highly skilled & helpful, they created a great working environment that made the lack of staff & bad management bearable. 

Sadly the same can’t be said for the management team. It was a consensus within the team that management give no support, no loyalty & no care to their workers. While they walk out on time & take their meal breaks, work from home when family members  are sick etc, the employees under them suffer the opposite working with unreasonable work demands, minimal if any training, proper meal breaks were an occasional luxury & no career progression prospects. Sadly their management style is very ancient & even work place adjustments was an unheard of concept & not known to the management team I worked with. ‘We treat everyone here like family’ was just lip service & there was never any substance to such comments. As was ‘we don’t expect anyone to do more than they can do in a day’ was always met with ‘well it needs to be done regardless’ the following day. They manipulate their policies & procedures to suit themselves while breaching every single one of them on a daily basis. 

Wouldn’t recommend. 

Walking into the office everyday was a pleasure.  All staff have a positive attitude towards each other and are completely passionate and committed to their roles.  The CE is a competent, caring and supportive manager which filters down through the whole management structure within the corporate office.  The workplace culture is collaborative, equal and one of respect for each other. The general fit of employee personalities working together is excellent.  I loved both my roles at this organisation.  Working front desk reception was particularly rewarding as I had the advantage of being able to truly foster internal and external relationships. I was in the prime position of being able to utilise my customer service skills of meeting and greeting staff, clients and visitors whilst promoting and maintaining a professional image at all times.  The hardest part of the job was leaving it.  It was a privilege to have worked at this organisation.

I am a registered Nurse with years of experience, i enjoy helping both patients and other nurses to achieve excellence in health care, i have worked as a Nurse Educator and the one thing i learnt was that without motivation education is useless. The truly intuitive educator is one who can find the motivational trigger for each student and thereby get full participation. 

when i arrive in the office, it is a routine to set up the day the night before so i am fully contingent of what the next day holds, i am prepared.

I enjoy working with others, being accepted as part of the team and fully participating in all aspects of the job, i enjoy encouraging and facilitating growth not only in myself and my colleagues but especially in the staff with which i come into contact

I worked as the area educator for WNSWLHD for a number of years, and it is the one position that i truly enjoyed. I was responsible for 9 then 13 then 15 facilities, for their total educational needs, for all staff, nursing, hotel services, management, etc

Complete restocking and cleaning of all aspects of the department that have not been completed by previous shift coworkers as they are too busy not carrying out designated work for the shift.

Have learnt that if you bully and intimidate people within the workplace nothing gets done about it even if it is recognized and known by numerous staff members.

If staff members have been there for a great period of time, they can get away with many things in the workplace.

The hardest part of the job I would say is putting up with the narcissistic staff that can get away with whatever they want and due to this having to support these people and cover for them by doing the work they are meant to do.

The most enjoyable part of the job I would say would have to be helping sick and vulnerable people when they are at thier most worst medically speaking.


I always start my day with positive attitude. Its a fun team work. there is a great opportunity to improve your customer service skills since we meet client and interact with them everyday at work. Also i learnt a lot about interpersonal skills. at my workplace bullying is not accepted at all and it is taken very seriously by the management. It has a great team work. there is lot of different backgrounds of people and we learn a lot from them and at the same time we respect each others culture and values. the hardest part of my job is when more than 5 people call in sick all at once in the last minute. the workload increases but the time limit remains the same. we are changed to do all the jobs with the same time frame. Still we manage to do it. But I guess if there are some casuals to help would be great. the most enjoyable part of the job is when a client compliments you for your service. i feel satisfied and happy.

They have a policy of respect, staff feeling empowered to speak up and contribute, etc. The opposite is true. Management don’t listen, micromanage, bully and gaslight staff that challenge their dishonesty and decisions that don’t work in reality. My knowledge, experience and job skills are completely undervalued and unrecognised. I’m supposed to perform like a trained monkey and never think for myself. Nurses are worked like machines, due to understaffing frequently asked to work 12 hour shifts, come in on days off and almost never get meal breaks. Management are terrible and make this a very toxic workplace. Some senior nurses and doctors treat other staff very badly but management look the other way because they are considered essential staff. One rule for them, another for us. Just a really toxic miserable place to work unless you’re someone considered important.

A typical day at work is generally busy with nurses attending to clients needs, being an active multidisciplinary team member, observing clients and ensuring their safety at all times. I have learnt a lot since I started working in mental health; active listening, treating clients as unique individuals, working in a multidisciplinary team, and documentation. The management is generally good and supportive at all times. I interact well with my co-workers and we usually form very good teams with a focus on client care. The hardest part of the job is when the team is divided and failing to work together. The most enjoyable part of my job is when I talk and listen to clients and being able to meet their needs or support to their recovery.

My typical day at work is a very pleasant day working amongst a group of team members that are a nice friendly bunch, I have made some very nice friends at work.
Everyday is a learning curve, gaining knowledge from experienced people who are only to happy to pass on information.
Management at my work are always busy, but never to busy to stop and speak for a short while before moving on with their own work day.
My co-workers are a great bunch of people, very knowlegable in their chosen field and great to work with.
The hardest part of my job is when a patient moves on.
The most enjoyable part of the job is to see a patient heal and be discharged to go home.

Minimal rushed training. Thrown in the deep end. Bully's for Manager's.  A lot of lazy staff who don't  get dealt with. Everything is presented as  transparent but what really goes on behind closed doors is all about, not what you know, but who you know.  Long drawn out application processes.  Mostly casual or permanent 
part time.  Supplying  documents over & over again. The whole Health System is failing, staff are leaving in droves, causing more stress on the ones still there. With a lot of GP's starting to Not Bulk Bill, this  will put  more pressure on the  Emergency Departments, who can't  cope now. Massive problems ahead.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Social culture was a nightmare! Clicks within clicks. ‘Us and them’ mentality. Over looked bullying  by a bunch of social climbers. Everyone was too scared to speak up about anything with staff (or patients). If they did, they put a target on their back. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very stressful, from the time you start your shift. Constantly watching your back . There was no support for mental health or the disabilities of workers for that matter.
