I teach mathematics tutorial classes. Each class involves spending two hours with the 20-25 students, working through the assigned problem sets. My focus is on their understanding of the material, and I use a variety of education techniques to achieve this. This role also involves prior planning and marking of assessments throughout semester. 

I am overseen by a senior lecturer who is there to make sure all the admin gets done. They are always eager to help out with any problem.

The hardest part of the job is motivating students to keep going and not give up on themselves.

The most enjoyable part of the job is that beautiful moment when a student finally "gets it" - I feel a sense of pride and achievement in my student and myself. It's also great when students heap praises on you in the Student Evaluation of Teaching forms.

A typical workday on campus involves meetings with staff and students to discuss issues and individual and group learning challenges. A close working relationship with students gives me insiughts into their learming strategies and family situations and cultural background.
As a longtime academic and having had extensive business experience outside academia I have much to offer.
I do not have much interaction with management after contracting but regular meetings with other staff members and academics. The hardest part of my job is gaining the confidence of students who have abilities which are not being fully activated. Stretching student ability is sometimes difficult but in other cases easy. Seeing an increase in involvement and achievement by students of modest ability is very encouraging.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Lots of smart stuff going on in a place like Monash Uni.  It's interesting to be around that.  Lots of smart people with brains as big as planets.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is a lack of interaction and cameraderie.  Highly individualised workplace.  Supervisor don't see themselves as instructing or mentoring junior staff.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Lacks cameraderie.  Apart from that it's all very civilised and decent.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Carry out literature research on a topic. 
Assess previous findings, gaps in research and methodolgy etc.   Gather an appropriate data set.  Review it for suitability and consistency.  Correct errors.  Process results to explore esearch objectives.  Commence report composition.

A typical day at work would include putting through transactions, advising customers which items suit their needs best, taking care of orders, calling customers, answering inquiries via the phone, visual merchandising of stock, organizing stock on the floor and stocktaking. From this position I have learnt to listen to the customers needs carefully and also to upsale depending on the relevant promotions at that point in time. I really enjoyed working with my coworkers from all walks of life and different ages as I am a very friendly and co operative person. The hardest part of this job is that it is a casual position that is only required at the start of semesters. Unfortunately this does not provide a great deal of job security. However is still a great position as it gives me an opportunity to interact with people and practice my sales techniques.

Monash University has a lot of rules, but, unfortunately, almost half of them won't make any sense to the very majority of people. "Yes, I also hate these stupid rules" - thats what all my colleagues kept saying. But of course nobody ever tried to complain. 
The atmosphere in my laboratory where I had an opportunity to work reminds of a high school, when you had to pretend you are not chewing a gum when you see a teacher or a principal, hide earphones in the hair etc. All of that and much more, like putting on a special glove when touching equipment because it shall not be contaminated, you have to do because otherwise anyone who sees you disobeying will immidiately tell about it to your boss and get a cookie for it. 
A system like that will never let anyone enjoy working.

Have been working in this research unit for many years.
Culture of bullying and staff harassment is rife and management deal with this by making employees redundant or turning other employees against them so they eventually leave.
Job security is non-existent as most staff are on ongoing fixed term contracts so we cannot speak out against harassment.
Staff's personal & confidential information is discussed by management amongst other colleagues without their permission. Management turns a blind eye to any serious issues raised and simply start performance managing staff out of their positions aimed at discrediting them because it's easier than dealing with the problems.

As a  help desk Technician I provided the customer or end user with information and support related to the institution's products and services. The purpose of a help desk is usually to troubleshoot problems or provide guidance about products such as computers, electronic equipment, food, apparel, or software. 
We were mainly corresponding through emails and by Phone.

In my role I learnt how to prioritize first contact resolution within a given time frame and to find a resolution.

My Co- worker's were friendly and very helpful.

The hardest part of my job was managing 3 children and working full time although I did it.

The most enjoyable part of my job was the flex ability to cross train and my Manger's and colleagues were great to work with.



A typical Day involved Preparation and Delivery of Lectures, Tutorials and repeat Tutorials, Consultation with Students and discussions with co-workers concerning anything from substantive law issues, to administrative and student concerns.

The difficult time is always the marking phase, when deadlines require intense and continuous marking of assignments or exams in a short time frame. Also if you are asked to update or re-write course materials, particularly distance education material in a tight time-frame.

Being up to date,and organised for your classes is essential.

The most enjoyable part was definitely seeing students gaining an understanding of the subject matter, and the supportive environment of co-lecturers and administrative staff.

Excellent to work for, fast paced and forever changing days. From mail sorting, ordering stationary, maintaining databases, incoming phone calls from participants then you can be asked to format documents take minutes or look after reception as I said forever changing very interesting. Time management had to be key to work here. 
Other co-workers friendly and we all worked as part of a team.
I found the hardest thing about this job was having to take on another co-workers position (PA) as well as mine when they were on leave. This was challenging and rewarding.
I found the most enjoyable part of working there was the participant contact, I love to help and assist others. It was satisfying when the best outcome for all was achieved.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Fairly relaxed vibe.  Pleasant environment/campus to work at.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Driving/commuting.
Supervisor wasn't very good at explaining things.  Felt myself going round in circles at times.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Generally good.  The academic and research staff were great to work with - very professional, supportive and interactive.  They showed interest in my work.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Process various reports on enrolments.  Allocate future placements of students.
Set up some trend reports for specific courses with demographic detail.
Explore use of survey systems.
