Metricon is the type of company that you carry with you for the rest of your life. The mental scars are ever present when people ask about my time in the company.

Senior management is a joke, they set unrealistic KPIs and then push staff beyond a reasonable expectation of work with no reward or recognition. The same people are constantly working back in order to help their team achieve without so much as a thank you for the most part. 
Meanwhile someone who maybe steps up once and complains about having to do so, gets treated like a golden child.

They spend ridiculous amounts of money on things like sponsoring sporting teams and then cancel things like monthly bbqs due to lack of money (under another thinly veiled excuse), and let me tell you that the bbqs are one of the only things to look forward to in this company.  Bullying runs rampant and HR do little to curb this.

There is no consistency with enforcing company policies from team to team. Internal promotions are more like popularity contests rather than competency based.

The recruitment team deserves an award for the best performance for highlighting values and morals they don’t follow (I personally believe they are car salesman in disguise). 
The red flag should’ve been clear from the very start. I started in a team of six and within the first six months the team had completely dissolved and left the industry entirely. 
The environment is destructive and zero effort was made to improve their standard. 
They purposely hire young staff with zero experience in workplace environments. It’s is used to their advantage to underpay staff and bully them into highly stressful roles. This job will destroy all aspects of your mental health. I wish this was an over exaggeration of my employment however, I hope this prevents anyone from making the same mistake. I’m ashamed to mention I was employed here on my resume because I have zero positive experiences and no gain from it.


I firstly applied for this job as a step in the door for my future design pathway.
I was studying interior design and saw the opportunity which seamed promising.
I later found out, it was just a customer greeter role and anyone could do it no matter what career they were trying to pursue.
There was no career advancement and no insight into the design industry.
We were paid a flat rate, no matter of weekend or public holidays.
We were also required to work all public holidays with no extra rates or incentives.
I found this quite harsh and decided to leave and look for something better as i found this a waste of time and learnt nothing beneficial for my future in design

Drive to sites, up to 15 home to check progress and quality, make sure that the following trade to come in has everything they need to complete job in full. The hardest was ensuring that you knew 100% what was happening on each job everyday. This part was made easy if your time management skill were good. The most enjoyable part was taking customers through their home at any stage of the built and being able to to discuss their quires, and walk away with them feeling confident that their home was being built to the greatest of standards.

Metricon was a great place to work.

They look after their employees with reward incentives and occassional social days like movies, bowling etc.

The accounts payable team were friendly and my supervisor had a great personality and was always bright and cheerful.

The position was extremely fast paced as there was a high volume of accounts always to be processed.

I enjoyed the variety of this position and working with a terrific team.

No support. Very high turn over. Can be quite toxic environment and competitiveness. There was a fair few lovely people that worked here although, management was terrible and the work load was ridiculous plus you also had a few toxic rude people. Also little to no support. Felt as if you were a number. Better places to work personally.

The high pressure and management 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Bad, teams worked against each other. Management was horrible.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Walking in to over 80 emails everyday. Constant micromanagement,  and other staff being stressed

A lot of internal cultural issues at Metricon which are simply ignored by Management and dismissed by HR. Stressful days and long hours are expected from you for p*ss poor pay. While I gained a lot of experience working 4 long years at head office, I could never work for Metricon again. I was exhausted all the time and the workload and expectations gave me severe anxiety.

Great company too be able to stretch your reach into different sectors if you desire so!

I was based on site on a medium density town home project and as far as my experience with Metricon Homes, they were all good, challenging at times but that's a crucial ingredient for growth, i took plenty of new knowledge away from this project and i was very grateful for the time i spent there.

its like every volume builder out there except alot of the guys in the higherups still run the business like they are still  the 90's. Most places are encouraging hybrid working and improving their tech, Metricon is a few years behind most other builders. Take a tour at their main office in mount waverly and you will see what its like working in an office in the 90's!
