I worked at ALM in Laverton for about 15 or 16 months and in the beginning, I didn't mind it. It was my first warehousing job so I didn't really know what to expect. Sure it was physical but fairly easy compared to what I had done in the past. There are a lot of great people who work on the floor and I still keep in contact with several. After a few months, I started seeing the typical flaws that nearly every business has and the cons simply outweighed the pros. I was thankful that I still had a job due to the covid-19 lockdown last year but that was the only thing that kept me going. For the entire time I was there, there was only 1 week where I had finished on 95% pick rate due to a chaotic period. Mind you most pickers were well below that percentage. Every other week I had a +100% pick rate with very few miss picks. Most workers there thought surely I'd be offered a full time position and I even had recommendations from several experienced full timers but it wasn't to be. One of the supervisors lied about me rejecting the offer so someone else could have the opportunity all because he kissed up to this supervisor. He actually did me a favour because a few months later, I was gone. 

This is a work place that DO NOT reward hardworking, excellent workers so if you are that person then avoid this place. There is a lack of good  management that couldn't care less about quality workers so long as the orders are getting out the door. There is NO future at Metcash ALM Laverton, none whatsoever.

When I left Coles Supermarkets in 1993 and Join Foodland Associated LTD  (and then FAL was acquired by Metcash in 2005), I have learnt, to be able to apply my experiences and knowledge to these Independent Retailers and share my way of Doing Business through  the Best Business Practice Principles, that I had been trained up by Coles. The corporate style of running a business is very different to operating an Independent business. The Independent culture is more relaxed as opposed to the corporate business. By this I mean the decision of a Corporate Supermarket is made at their Head Office. Where as an Independent Retailer can decide there and then and make their decisions on the spot. The hardest part in dealing with Independent Retailers, is to get them to spend money in and on their stores to keep up with Market Trends and Consumer Demands. This would be my typical day to day working with Independent Retailers encouraging them to invest in their business for the potential growth and sustainability. The hardest part is to convince them. But there are ways and means through successful "Testimonials" and sharing the results of these Testimonials. The most enjoyable part of this job is being able to have a well balance work and family life and as well as seeing the fruits my labour that produces positive outcomes for my customers as well as for the business and being appreciated.

The team I worked with were great, really nice crew. I started as casual on recruitment and was really impressed with the facilities and the friendlyness of the team. I was offered full time salary within a few months but was told that basically even though the contract states X amount of hours, your weekly roster would be more, yes they are flexible if things come up here and there and you are able to leave early and or work from home, however the extra time expected to work each day even if the work load didn't call for it seemed kind of dodgy to me, I worked out you basically would be doing a minimum of 3.4 weeks extra per year for free, and Im not sure the wage is good enough to accept that, I was also told sick days are a massive no no there, if someone calls in genuinely sick even one day, everyone turns on that person, quote "sick days are are not an entitlement", typical retail though, staff are brainwashed to think that industry is above the law. I don't give this information to make the place look bad, there was a lot of good things about working there, I just think it's fair people know what is expected if you were interested in long term employment there. Overall, as a temp casual, it was a good experience, it just wasn't for me long term.

With co workers I am a team player at all stages and can lead by example and direction when required .
Any job has its challenges but I believe through clear objectives and constructive feedback the desired result can be achieved..
I view my contribution to growth and financial success to the business as my measure of enjoyment of my job.

Generally my day is full of activities from working directly with suppliers and cross functional team collaborations. representing my business units in meeting and driving change.

I learned a lot about managing cash flow and understood the importance of networks in a logistic business setup.

Management need to take more responsibility and accountability for their end to end decisions. It just doe not end with their departments especially when it comes to a major strategic change.

Work place culture is great and work life balance is good when it comes to having a family

is not getting the information upfront and only to be involved in a project that has run out of money and thus having to prop it up and drag it across the line. It could have been better.

Having to design processes and dashboard report to drive performance and dealing with the extended supplier and customer community

I work Part Time, as a data entry/customer service operator. I have learned that I need to be extremely savvy with time management as the office is an extremely busy fast paced environment. I have found this a challenge especially having to catch up on previous incidents of past days. I have suggested to have a brief morning huddle which has proved beneficial. Management is at times unforthcoming and unaware of what is actually going on in the office. My  co workers are pleasant people that I enjoy working  with and we annually go out for lunch. The hardest part of my day is answering the phone when I am alone in the office when 4 or 5 lines are calling at once, however,  normally I explain to the customer and call them back rather than have them wait. I love talking to the customers and helping them with their queries or problems.

. Could be time consuming, due to bundling of Invoice's & placing in envelopes on a daily basis and putting Collection and Administration on hold until finished. Attended to lots of emails, in and outgoing calls, Claims, Misallocations invoice's not received, due to mailing addrresses out of date, difficult reconciliations Diary notes not recorded. Also internal system not friendly. Stores requesting account taken off 'Hold' as trying to put an order through, even though seriously in breach of their Terms and always late payers.
. Work Colleague's very helpful and when a problem arose with other Divisions could be resolved quite quickly

A typical day at work with Metcash was never dull, very open office and a deverse range of people and cultures.
I was able to improve many aspects of my professional life with much contact with customers and being able to develop a great repore with them.  Being able to learn more about the Microsoft applications and a program known as IBS Enterprise.
Management were great and very easy to get along with and approch with any issue that may have come up.
Great team everyone knew what needed to be done and worked well together.
Hardest part of the job would be dealing with disgruntal customers and customers whos english wasn't fluent over the phone.
Most enjoyable was being able to have a conversation with our customers that I had built a strong repore with.

It was a great place to work, lots of variety everyday.  I had great relationships with my colleagues and mutual respect.  I liaised daily with suppliers either by email or the telephone,  I came into this role with no background in purchasing and through my buyers I learnt a lot.  The hardest part of the job is when twice a year where all the suppliers promotions need to be loaded and this will take many weeks to do. The most enjoyable was that I was when suppliers came in to catch up on their trading terms and would often get a gift or sample of whatever they were trying to promote.  I have to say that my many years there I developed many skills which I would not have had otherwise.

Pay was good. Unfortunately I had a negative experience. Majority of staff were good and friendly however there were some that had a real bullying attitude. The training was lacking, expecting you to know things you were not shown or taught. Did not genuinely care about their clients, bit of a "like it or lump" situation. Working for a new company has highlighted how badly I was treated. This was a toxic work environment for me and it was very negative for mental health. I was not the only one who had negitive mental health issues. I regret staying for as long as I did. Think long and hard before working here.
