This was an autonomous role as a medical representative and as such I was the face of the company .
My routine was to have a plan for each week of the area of my territory to be worked and a list of doctor appointments in my diary for each day. I planned my work and worked my plan!
This would then be augmented by various other activities such as doctor lunches/dinners  to be arranged, in order to increase my call rate and more importantly my opportunities for face to face sales presentations with my key customers--this was the hardest part!!
Additional initiatives I also undertook were to 'drop-in' on key doctors/surgeries to provide updates on new medications/changes to PBS listing/offer sample products/check expiry on those already on hand/ ask for doctors' clinical experience of their use/address any concerns/ and most importantly make future appointments for follow up on next trip in that area of my territory-- another initiative which worked for me !!!
My focus was to build win/win relationships with all stakeholders--especially frontline staff who were the gatekeepers to my target customers. My practice in larger 'hard to see clinics' was to arrive with a tray of various coffees and some good humoured banter which inevitably endeared me to many receptionists. Having established this tactic worked --I would phone ahead to ascertain what flavours to bring and which doctors I was catering for--which encouraged reciprocity from most stakeholders--this was the most challenging and the most enjoyable part of my role as a medical rep.
I enjoyed this job because my investment in time, effort and commitment paid off and many of my customers are now 'friends whose respect I earned and whose friendship I value still !!!!

Job that was described by the recruitment agency and in the interview was nothing like the actual position. 
The training was inconsistent - some days the trainer was late, some days they didn't bother turning up at all. 
We ended up being put on the phones a week earlier than we were told was going to happen because there wasn't enough staff & the 3 staff they had were threatening to quit. 
Job description was constantly changing due to restructuring.


A typical day began with greeting my workmates at a notice board where we determined our assignments for the night, any of 11 different areas, then taking over the running from the incumbent crew so that the line continued during shift change. For the rest of the shift I would control & troubleshoot the process, check the quality of the product & source materials, while following procedures for both the required documentation & operation.

Merck is an excellent company to work for.  They provide great work life balance as well as the resources to complete your work, giving me the flexibility to modify procedures and functions to optimize processes.
I look to continuously improve processes, which is appreciated.
My Visual Basic Skills are used company wide to reduce risks and improve performance.

my work day began at 7am  I liked going to work, with my colleagues with form a family group, were very long days 12 hours but I liked having my 4 days off every two months we had day meeting and training with group activities

Involved in the creation and implementation of a cutting-edge regulatory database as a result of a business need for the company. Learned how to take a project from a concept to a finished useable product. Problem solving is required daily as you are creating something with many unforseen challenges.

Huge company with plenty of opportunity to move laterally if nothing else, provided you are flexible.  Very supportive of education and work life balance.  Very intelligent and capable co-workers.  Most advanced manufacturing in big pharma.

Its not a good company to work for , i was doing long hours  doing backups , customer support , daily operation , helping users , solving system  problem , no appreciation,

Pharmaceutical sales is a hard working, well rewarded sales environment.  Training and management is world class.  different companies have different cultures. At the time , Sanofi Aventis was a brilliant balance of respect, trust and drive.
