Job has zero work life balance, if you want to use your annual leave it’s a ridiculously over complicated process, half the time your request gets lost in the system and you’d get rostered on anyway and have to swap shifts, payroll also no longer accepts single day leave requests which is ridiculous because it’s your annual leave to do with as you want. 
Worst part was how many times we would be promised rosters would be put out with plenty of notice but would continue to only be put out a week in advance, 2 weeks if we’re lucky like they think people live to work and not the other way round.
Training would often leave a lot to be desired of being understaffed, you’d get shown how to do something and then never do it for a couple weeks later and really be like starting from scratch again, was really frustrating, supervisors try their best but they continue to be let down by not being given enough staff to get the job done. I really didn’t enjoy the amount of time spent sitting around doing nothing between flights, some people liked that aspect but personally I was bored for 90% of the time on shift and the days just dragged on, absolute relief to no longer be working there.
One of the highlights was at the beginning when HR said even though it’s contracted as 20 hours a week, you will be getting closer to 40 hours so the $250 bill for a physical assessment prior to employment will pay for itself, only to be rostered on 5 sometimes 6 days a week but doing less than 30 hours still so working basically every day and when pay day comes it’s been for nothing, they were just lucky that a lot of the people working for them don’t know any different and think those sort of rostering schedules and almost zero notice with 100 hoops to jump through to get some time off was normal when it definitely isn’t.

Menzies Aviation Cargo in Mascot was the best company I had worked for. What made me feel this way? Was the comradery from my fellow co-workers within the warehouse and the office. It has the most promising job security to offer as the aviation industry will never decease but will only get bigger and more demand for any aviation related task. 

The downfall, if you have a family, wife and kids, don't get your hopes up spending weekends with them or Christmas morning or New Years Eve/ New Years day with them as you may be rostered on for shift. You may do shift swaps or take a day in lieu or apply for annual leave, but that's only successful if you are approved or whom you offer to shift swap with accepts the swap.

Other than that, I really enjoyed my time at Menzies Aviation. Having the authority to drive airside and to be very close to million dollar aircraft where the public don't have access was one of the excitements that come with the position.

You get your fair share of events such as the US Air Force Boeing C-17 Globemaster III from time to time, or in my time at the airport I witnessed Air Force 1, Manchester United chartered 747, a shortened Saudi Arabian Airlines 747. But at the end of the day, your stuck in the warehouse sweating (if hot) building export freight for Menzies Aviation Cargo clients such as Cathay Pacific, British Airways, Thai Airways, Asiana, Garuda, Etihad, Fiji Airways, Air Asia.

Menzies Aviation at Melbourne Airport has one of the worst management and work culture that I have personally experienced in the aviation industry.

The sign on bonus is only given to you after 6 months of employment which no one would even get because no one lasts due to facing poor management, rosters and fatigue. HR will attempt to terminate employees under probation (6-months) to avoid paying out the sign on bonus.

Management and whoever is in HR do not care about you and see you as a number, how can you respect management when they don't even respect you.

Staff are pressured into prioritizing schedule after safety due to low staffing and toxic pressure from management and then write you up for breaking rules.

Most of the duties in the contract and job description are only carried out by higher lever staff and will not be performed by you. Before you work around aircraft you will be subject to the baggage room for 3 months which is not well explained in the job description and interview process.

One manager in particular has absolutely no ramp experience and is some how a ramp manager... when they are present on ramp they do the opposite of help and only pressure and target you when in-fact they break their own rules ("Do as I say not as I do"

Zero flexibility in rostering and would not cater to your availability and leave requests. As a result staff will call in sick aiding to the low staffage.

Overall most staff are very nice to talk to and the ramp supervisors are very understanding and respectful. We all shared the same opinions regarding this review.

A typical day at work with Menzies Aviation at Sydney International Airport consisted of working and assisting with travelers and families as they make their way to aircraft and of on their adventures. In this role, I learned how to assist people with disabilities and how to communicate with people who are not fluent in English, how to use reservation and booking system software such as Galileo in order to check customers into their flights, how to assist people with baggage problems, and also, key information on the travel industry.

My co-workers were lovely people as they were very friendly and welcoming of me to the job. They were also very helpful if I needed assistance with any of my duties. Management was exceptional as they were  very welcoming of myself to the company, and made sure I was comfortable and had the assistance I needed if I needed help.

The hardest part of the job was always being on your feet for long periods of time, walking from one side of the busy airport to the next, and then back again. Although, I must say it was very enjoyable.

The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to work at Australia's busiest airport and experience what it is like to work in the travel industry. Also, being able to communicate with people from all around the world making their way in and out of Sydney. Lastly, it was enjoyable to work with a range of different airlines such as Fiji Airways, Thai Airways, Delta Airlines, Etihad and United Airlines.

Working at Menzies Aviation has its ups and downs. The actual job—driving and loading—is pretty straightforward and easy to pick up. However, the management situation is frustrating. Many supervisors are downright lazy, especially when it rains, and they often won’t lift a finger to help. Some are rude and act like they’re royalty, while a few good guys do exist, they’re overshadowed by the overall laziness.

The training is a joke. You get just a week before they sign you off, which isn’t nearly enough. This leaves new employees struggling, and then the leading hands get annoyed when we don’t know what to do. Ironically, the leading hands themselves often seem lost and rely on more experienced drivers for help.

HR doesn’t help either. They care more about your uniform and attendance than actually helping you advance. If you want to take time off, good luck! You have to put in your leave request a year in advance just to have a shot at getting it approved. And even then, you won’t know your schedule until a week before, which makes planning impossible.

The work culture can be hit or miss. While most drivers and loaders are solid people, you still have to deal with grown adults spreading rumors. And good luck getting overtime pay, even when it’s promised. Plus, the work environment is dangerous, and many don’t follow safety protocols because they’re poorly designed.

As an employee at Menzies Aviation, I have had the privilege of working for a company that is highly regarded in the aviation industry. My experience with Menzies has been predominantly positive, thanks to their strong focus on professionalism and exceptional customer service. The staff at Menzies consistently impresses me with their knowledge and friendly demeanor, ensuring that each interaction is efficient and pleasant.

However, one aspect I would like to see improved is the hours of work. Menzies Aviation tends to have irregular and demanding schedules, which can be challenging for employees, including myself, to balance personal and professional commitments. The inconsistency and sudden changes in working hours can lead to fatigue and potentially affect our overall performance.

Despite this concern, I must acknowledge Menzies Aviation's commitment to customer satisfaction and their dedication to excellence. Their emphasis on providing top-notch aviation services is truly commendable. With some adjustments to the scheduling practices, Menzies Aviation can further enhance the work-life balance of their employees, ensuring continued success in the industry.

Terrible company to work for. We are severely understaffed and currently have no trainer to train our new starters. High turn over job and below average wages for a mining town that easily averages over 35 celsius a day through summer. Management are a close knit toxic group that offer no support on ramp as they are meant to at our port.

Currently worked 18 days straight (not rostered but shortage of staff has us being called in) and will probably be called in again on the 1 day off a week we get.

Awful fatigue management, have us drive an hour back from a minesite we are contracted to after starting at 3AM and then work all afternoon at our airport. There are a lot of blind eyes turned here, everyone that’s experienced ramp have described this place as the worst job they have ever worked.

Our EBA is garbage and has been repeatedly pushed back for months so it can’t be renegotiated. No retention rate and one 50c pay increase since 2016.

A typical day at work would be checking in passengers and their bags to flights and then meeting them at the boarding gate to board the flight. Assist also with any special needs passengers eg. elderly, wheelchair or under-age minor
I learned that everyone is different when travelling - you could be the smartest doctor but as soon as you walk in the airport doors you are a complete and utter mess, trying to catch that flight! 
Workplace culture is loud and outgoing, lots of different personalities out there so sometimes lots of drama!
Hardest part would be the shift work, working crazy hours - flight delays or cancellations which are out of our control and irrate passengers not understanding weather is not controlled by airport staff.
Most enjoyable part would be meeting so many different people from all walks of life, every day is different and always fun atmosphere!

Horrible management, newbie employees are treated as if they are dumb and looked down at. Employees whose been there for a while treat the new ones horribly with dirty looks. Quite clicky, discomforting and unwelcoming work place. Very high staff turnover, highest i've ever seen. Please please don't waste your time or damage your mental health here. Employees are not supported at all, a lot of snitching, back stabbing and lying from older employees. A very toxic work environment. You have to be flunky to older employees and managers to survive. Lots of brown nosing staff who will lie and throw you under the wheel. Horrible training and you're responsible if you do anything wrong. 

Honestly the worst on job training I have ever received, little to no help from any “supervisor” on the floor, a true sink or swim type of situation. A young vibe supervising team which is refreshing and good in some respects, however this can also be detrimental to the direction given to new staff, as experience in a managerial role is clearly lacking, they appear to not be able to give any assistance or knowledge , being looked down on and given dirty looks non stop is unsettling to say the least, a very “clicky” workplace and very uncomfortable for new team members to attempt to fit in, hence the high staff turnover! They hired new staff to get ahead and this was outweighed by the ones who decided to leave, back to square -2,  The worst company I have ever worked for!!!!
