Meals on Wheels

A typical day at work is never boring.
I was originally hired to just do cleaning but as time went on i managed to turn my hand to many tasks.
Just yesterday i had to find a way to stop a wall set toilet from running.
Helped with meal calculations and prepared stock for storage.
Cleaning tasks are varied according to need and time.

I have learned many things and have a more well rounded knowledge of what is expected by employers.
Even though the job should be task specific it never has been and i do what is needed even it does not fall into my job category.

Sometimes there when you need them

For the most part the volunteers have been extremely helpful, hard working and friendly.
We are really just a group of people who care.

Trying to do everything i know needs to be done in the time allowed.

satisfaction in what i am able to get done each day knowing it has been done to the best of my ability in the time allowed.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The mix of sorting and packing in the morning then delivery during second half.
Renumeration is excellent as well.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sorting medical mandatory labels for clients require a sharp eye. Parking is Sydney is difficult for occasional addresses.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Matriarchal and bureaucratic on occasion however I found my colleagues supporting with a good sense of comradery.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get in early, sort pack then delivery. Finding specific meals in freezer section has its challenges. On the spot stocktake for missing specialist meals is intense however once a run is sorted it's morning tea and readying for second half delivery.

My day starts at 05.30. Switch everything on in the kitchen and put pots on stove for soup. Take desserts ,prepared previous day. out of cold room for volunteers to pack.
07.30 is morning tea. Then pack the main meals, make soup. After that prepare dessert and mains for following day. 10.10 switch on oven for hot meals. 10.30 pack the hot meals in cases followed by desserts. Pack frozen meals and prepare for next day.
11.00 tea break. 11.10 do all paperwork and clean kitchen.
12.30 finish.
Volunteers are great people to work with, everyday different workers.
The hardest part is all the different dietary requirements. 
The most enjoyable part is knowing that 120 elderly people are being provided with a three course meal.

5.30 start good in summer not so good in winter.

The hardest part of the job was cooking dishes without recipes and providing meals which were chosen from another days menu.

The most enjoyable part of the job were deliveries to clients who were pleased to see you and happy with the service.

I learned that there was not enough time to cook everything on the day so things had to be prepared the day before.

Volunteers are very important if timelines for deliveries are going to be met.

my daily responsibilities included preparing of food and organizing of selected runs for food transport, the hardest part of the day was making sure that there was enough to go around and to make sure everyone was pleased and had received the correct order. I enjoy everyday as I am helping people in need of support with basic living and healthy eating. every day is a new day and I learn new things within the company everyday.

The lovely company but I feel needs new blood to keep the flow, it seems to be living in the past a bit and could benefit from new ideas and more management views.  Some of the volunteers seem to be very old and often I felt like I was a babysitter for an elderly person and chatting in the car whilst I did the work but I did not mind as to understand this is part of the culture the evolves around its volunteers.

Mixing with people and completing a job 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Nothing it is what you make it no need to get stressed. Just complete the job

Interesting different and busy

A typical day at work is meeting very interesting people, I learn so much from the people I meet they tell me about growing up in the town. The co worker I have is excellent she make life very easy for me which is great we work so well together. The hardest part is when we lose someone. The most enjoyable part of my job is meeting the people I like it very much.

Typical day at work at meals on wheels was basically, sit down at tables till 9am, after 9  we get assigned runs, we stock up for our runs and deliver the food on our runs

I was only there for a month. The time I did spend there I found was quite depressing. 

Delivering meals to the elderly makes you see how sad and lonely some of them are.

One run I did go on was to an old mans house. He spent half an hour showing us photos of his children and grandchildren. He would light up more with every page he turned.
