First of all, the manager of this business I feel is emotionally unavailable and simply does not care for their employees. I didn't feel like I was wanted when I was working there, and I was simply belittled and when asking questions, I was sighed at and patronized.

My colleagues, for the most part, were wonderful people and I am going to miss working with them. The pay was a bit lacklustre, in my personal opinion, and I had to work days I was told I had off. I also was not entitled to breaks and holidays.

I was told up front that I could ask for help if I needed it, and when I did, I just felt resented and that I'd caused a war, metaphorically speaking of course. In a way I'm glad I was let go, because I really didn't feel like I was wanted.

I did the late shift at Matalan this means I spent the evening organising the store ready for the next day.

During my time at Matalan I learned how to organise the shop floor including stock check, I also had till training and dealt with customer care.

I found management helpful and professional when personal issues required a shift change etc.

Co-workers were professional and fun, many of which became personal friends outside of work.

Dealing with the general public can be challenging at times.

The most enjoyable part of the job is working as a team to provide a good service for the customers.

Matalan is ok to work for but i also find it very frustrating at times as i only work a few hours and when new people are recruited they get more hours than myself.
my typical day would consist of me going in to the stockroom to see what delivery there is for me put out and would continue to put it out unless otherwise told to do something else, i would also sometimes check availability of stock.
i personally feel that i get on very well with the management team.
the hardest part of my job would be sometimes not knowing where to put things which is where my co-workers help which makes it easier and my co-workers are the most enjoyable part of my job

A typical day at work will include, seeing what delivery has been delivered, finding the items in the phase book and merhandising it correctly on the shop floor. Followed by a full availiabilty check on ladieswear, along with general customer service and any jobs needed doing that day.

I learn something new everyday in my job, all customers are different and have different needs.

The most enjoyable part of my job is being able to work with members of the public, i am a great peoples person and loves to interact with people, also working with the latest fashion trends and being able to put my own touch on manequins and merchandinsing the shop floor.

Depending on the time shift i do , 6-10 at night im normally on delivery putting all ladieswear clothes out in the right sections on the shop floor.I Learn how to merchandise the clothes.The management normally let you got on with it and they wander around the store. Co-workers normally stop to talk about work ect. The hardest part of the job is dealing with difficult customers and trying to clear all the delivery. The most enjoyable part is getting the job finished and helping customers with any inquiries they have.

Daily cash float preparation, banking, vouchers reconciliation and other required cash office duties. When prepared with no issue other tasks assigned. Very good atmosphere, focused on the job management and staff. Daily briefs at the start of the shift with overall performance make me feel important to overall success of the Store. I learned multitasking, attention to the details, accuracy and customer service.

The job itself is okay, but the managers are the worst i have ever worked with. They are lazy and manipulative bullies. Everyday is the exact same. The only thing I can say positive that I enjoyed was working on the tills, womens shoes department and the stockroom. The staff mostly hid and did nothing most of the time

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time working for Matalan and had strong connections with many members of my team. The only downfall of it was my hourly rate, which i personally do not think represented the level of commitment and passion I brought to the job.

good at times. can get very busy and under staffed. no heating or air con so it is boiling in the summer and freezing in the winter. witnessed staff fainting in heat and calling in sick during winter due to catching flu or cold

Company was quick to hire which was good as I was only there for the summer period before heading back to university. Gave me some really good basic skills essential for any young person before moving onto Real Life Work
