Marist will welcome you in and provide good training for the first 2 weeks. Beyond that, its all downhill. The management team are toxic and will throw you under the bus without hesitation to save their wrong doing (even if that means firing you to save themselves). They are not supportive, never available when asking for help. They continue to increase our workloads but take lack of ownership of their own workload. More often than not,due to lack of staffing, managers are having to work in the residential services for a period of 24 hours - 30 hours without a break. They have a upper management team in head office, that have little or some even have no experience in Out of Home Care. They show a lack of decision making for their clients/young people. Often their decisions are too late when the clients have already de railed. The workplace environment is toxic and full of bullying, which impacts the service delivery for the clients as everyone is walking on egg shells. Marist180 have a very high turnover of staff  sometimes people lasting as little as a month once they realise the workplace culture. They sadly burn out every staff member. 

Really good to interview for. But pay below award. Toxic management. Poor support for work place politics. Punitive managers. Don’t encourage training. 

You don’t do what you interviewed for. Colleagues “dob” on you to managers rather than collaborating and having supportive conversations. They ask you to do dual or multiple roles for 5-10% increase (which equals $45 extra a week) with no extra support to do that role, than they bring you into performance management style meetings. I applied for training for 9 months but would get passed off to different managers. 

Overall, if you’re wanting decent pay for your skills and labour, kind and ethical employers who nurture and foster professional development; an emotionally safe workplace with minimal office politics and gossiping - this is not the workplace for you. 

* There was no typical day at Marist my plans could be changed with a simple phone call from a client or legal representative.
* I learnt to think quickly and with in the Marist Guidelines. I learnt to be thick skinned and to do my best with every new situation that arose.
*Management where very encouraging and praising. But found a lot of negativity towards others by some.
* Hardest part of the job was when you had worked very close with a client and thought you might have made a break through with them and then you get a call to say they had reoffended.
* Helping the young people, and helping them, talking to them. Feeling like you where making a difference that was the most rewarding part of my job.

The youth workers are committed as is the management team overall a workplace that supports their customers as well as they can

Normal systematic problems you find in all service provider jobs

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Friendly mostly, I wish I had of worked for Marist Sydney though. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy, and depends a little on the initiative of the individual

- I learned a lot in this role about interacting and engaging disadvantaged youth in the most effective and respectful ways
- I gained confidence in empowering and encouraging youth to find their aspirations and work hard towards them, by referring or connecting them with a relevant organisation or activity
- good workplace culture with consideration to staff wellbeing and a very friendly staff, admin etc.
- casual employment basis means inconsistent hours

Marist180 (previously Marist Youth Care) offers a great working environment with plenty of support from colleagues and management.

Having the opportunity to work with the community and in the community allows for transference of knowledge and skills, which improve the effectiveness of any outcome for a client.

Trusting staff, trusting management. The hardest part of the job is telling families about new procedures that I know will affect them negatively however this is part of the process of change. The best part of this job is that they trust you enough to allow you to perform you duties. They ask if you need help and always are around.

A home for young people living there based on mutual respect, personal safety and security. It maximises opporturnities for self determination, open communication and honest feedback.

I’ve never been apart of a more unsupportive and dishonest workplace. The management are inexperienced and inappropriate. HR biased and unhelpful. Clients aren’t cared for appropriately. 
Avoid Newcastle Marist180. 
The poor pay isn’t worth destroying your mental health.
