A typical day at work is very busy and can be a little stressful due to the ratio of fitters I have working on my crew compared to the amount of machines we currently have on site, approx 300 that we have to maintain, attend breakdowns and the list goes on.On this contract I have learned that you have to be very patient as things dont always happen as quick as you would like them to.
Management are great but I have found that they are limited in acheiving results in a timely manner compaired to when they would like to acheive the results and due to this it is hard to get a yes/no answer on our behalf.
My Co workers are great, they complete all the work per shift that is required, which includes schedueled servicing, breakdowns and general maintenance.Another bonus to them is they all get in and help at the end of each shift and clean up the w/shop, tooling and servce vehicles with out any complaints so everything is ready for the next shift that comes on.
The hardest part of the job is prioritising the work as it comes up as there are so many different operations on site. This is where you may upset someone to please someone else, it's hard to keep everyone happy but it all works out in the end.
The most enjoyable part of the job are the acheivements we reach each day, then being able to go home and relax with family and freinds and finally of couse the rewards are great.

- 530. pre-start poor enthusiasm with supervisors. e.g. stretches were done when they felt like it. 
- Any safety concerns arisen by employee's were rarely followed up on unless management bought up the concern. (changes would occur without notice, resulting in broken rules and sackings)
- Safety meetings held once per swing were ruled out by the superintendent because there wasn't enough time, This directly breaks the main rule on a mine site. Safety always come first.
- Hardest part of the job was ordering consumables for tasks at hand, I took personal responsibility under the superintendents concent and sent orders through to management in perth. Weeks past and parts never arrived, on follow up i found out they were withdrawn. 
- The Work crew were outstanding, A crew was regularly falling behind, this worked well in the way that  B&C crew's were pushing out completed services and repairs faster then they were coming in resulting in less work. lower priority jobs filed in history could then be completed on nightshift.
- Most enjoyable part of employment was building communication and leadership skills between workmates gaining only positive aspects including friendships, respect  and trust to act on given and gained responsibilities in the mining workforce.

get up 4.00.am shower get your gear ready dress go to kitchen for breakfast make your lunch. have breakfast then go outside with a cup of tea and wait for the bus to take us to the mine for work. we have a breath test every shift then we have a pre start meeting to brief us what they want us to do. then we start work we lived at the mine in a camp. the hardest part of the job was watching your back. they are allways trying to put a younger guy in your place and get rid of us older guys. like i said i was with them for 14 years so i did like them at one time. i was a allrounder but mostly loaders, then knock off get on the bus and go back to camp, drop our gear and race down to the wet mess have a few coldies it was great then. that was the best part of the day. i enjoyed the work earlier in my time with Macmahons but in the last few years we lost some really good bosses and the place has turned bad, theres a lot of undercurrent in the crew now , that has only started in the last 6 years or so. i have never seen such a change in such a short time. i am going to write a book about my time with Macmahons it will be a real eye opener hopefully the company will have a rethink about whats going on.

I have been involved in mining for many years, I have operated most equipment in the underground environment and some on the surface. I have a very thorough knowledge base of all things safety and training and understand the importance of driving a positive safety culture. I have performed all roles in the safety and training fields and gain enjoyment from the interaction with the employees, I am also responsible for all compliance entry, ICAM investigations and developing and monitoring individual training requirements.
The best part of my daily activities id the interaction with the workforce, mentoring and advising, the hardest part is the increased level of compliance that is required at every level of the organisation.
I like to work with management that listens to you and see's the importance of a good safety culture to the organisation.

I met and made many new friendships a long the way during the 12mth job contract  and still keep in contact with these that was the hardest part of the job parting company. I was hoping to gain continuous long term full time employment with the company but this was not to be. I am still trying to get back on board after 12mths.i gained many onsite tickets whilst employed and would liked to have been given the opportunity to put these to long term good use and prove to be a worthy investment to the company a typical day at work was filled with interesting events work related climate social and particularly with the native raw landscape and animals I miss it all.

A typical day at work always starts with coffee and breckfast with operators and then coffee and chat at pri-start meetings.
I would then plan training for the day all aspects of training is highly satisfing for me to be able to train green operators to a high operational level.
The hardest part of the job is dealing with managment as at managment level they dont understand what training of machine operators entales.
expect training to take a day or so untill they come down to training and see the operations and study involved in training.
The most enjoyable part of the job is to see green operators with my training method and their determination achieve a ticket of competency. 


My day would start with a short cross shift hand over with the previous crew. I would write down all the information I would need such as any hazards or extra gear I need to take underground with me. Management would go through the daily targets and any hazards that will be in our work area and also if there were any firing on our shift. Work place culture is very strong and everyone looks out for everyone and help if help is needed. The hardest part of the job is to try and keep everyone on a zero harm frame of mind and the enjoyable part of the job is doing the safe and making sure I leave the job safe for the next person behind me and returning home to my family.

Up at 4am, then pre-start with all safety requirements and how we were gonna stay safe during the day. Ensuring that we all came back to camp the same way we left. Pre-start on machinery and continued our daily duties.
I learn't how to contruct a rail formation. I enjoyed working under good management, who looked after all their workers. Had a good team to work with and who treated me like part of the team. Got along with all my co-workers on the job and at camp.
The hardest part of the job was making sure we completed our the rail project on time.
The most enjoyable part of the job for me was seeing the train go through on the tracks to the mines.

Operating Komatsu 300 excavators to clear and stockpile dredge spoils. Cat 330 excavator loading Moxies and Kenworth Tippers for wharf construction, sifting rocks from stockpiles. Digging trenches with Hitachi 5 ton machine.
Loading Moxies and Tippers with Cat 930 loader, IT to unload / load  trucks with pallets using fork attachment. Unloading mesh and rio bar batches using jib attachment with chains. 
Carting Excavator spoils with Kenworth Tipper to stockpiles.

Mostly enjoyed operating the larger excavators stockpiling and loading trucks.

My contract work was conducting weekly one day induction workshops. I enjoyed the challenge of delivering the program to people who had attended many inductions in their work lives to date, keeping them engaged from start t finish.
Occasionally resource availability created a problem, however, I was always  prepared and able to adapt to the situation at hand.
As long as expectations and requirements were clear, everything usually went according to plan.
I usually do what it takes get the job done, including going the extra mile to ensure all stakeholders needs are met.
