Typical day at work. Have our safety meeting. Discuss any issues and changes to the track from the previous shift. 
I learned how to manage fatigue, clear communication on a two way and work well with others.                                                        When we returned to the yard our loco had to be serviced and tidy for the change of shift, I really enjoyed these duties. The shift work could be difficult but I enjoyed the different shifts. The proudest moment for me was my last year when I received my loco ticket.

It has been a joyful three years of working at Mackay Sugar Limited. The management is very cooperative and are willing to take challenges heads on. The co-workers have been very impressive as a part of project team and have been very accommodating during the entire period of project. The project has been proceeding quite smoothly despite of few bumps in the initial stages.

Overall it has been a bag full of joys.

Responsible for major change management throughout the company together with the senior leadership team, influencing, coaching leaders in managing culture change through leading edge HR tools including leadership competencies identification and assessment processes.

From starting as a Drivers Assistant, I was quickly given the opportunity to train as a Locomotive Driver.

This job was a completely different choice to the workplaces I have previously worked in has been an amazing experience and one that has allowed me growth, to prove myself as a fast learner and dedicated employee.

I work alongside a very supportive and helpful team working a 24 hour shift work roster. Although shift work can often be tricky with the body clock, this position has been extremely rewarding.

No qualified trainers, no training programs so when your employed as a trainee there is no guide to how you are progressing. Safety has a long way to go in regards to application. Mostly its toolbox talks and PPE. There is no pressure to ensure that all incidents are reported and often things happen on the day before a weekend and the employee does not report the incident until they return to work on the following Tuesday.

The actual work itself is enjoyable but upper management are sneaky and will do everything they can to save a dollar whether it's on wages or safety. Trains regularly catching on fire, derailments due do poor rolling stock, fatigued employees that have no competent trainers leading them. It's only a matter of time before their negligence hurts or kills someone.

My time there was like a turnstile , so many come and go. The management will never really support you. They will often fire bullets instead of solving the problem. Seen cases of harrassment that were swept under the carpet through an incompetant supervisor.  

Being involved with the construction of a molasses bladder which was an innovative construction activity provided great areas of learning working within a proactive team.  Managerial support was exceptional and enjoyed my contractual term with this company.

Didn't have a problem doing the work but it is stuck in the 1920's. If you are looking for a modern workplace with supportive management and reactive and progressive  HR department don't apply to Mackay Sugar.
Good pay, horrible roster, toxic workplace culture from the top down.

Working for Mackay Sugar was one great experience I will never forget throughout my Working career.  Great leadership from the Warehouse Management led by brilliant team. 
There is room for development because they give you chances to think outside the box.
