One of the worst companies I've ever worked for.
Management simply does not care about staff and treats them like replaceable numbers and dumb sheep.
No proper training, never any advancement opportunities given and very unfair in their judgement.
Some staff were great, but all suffered the sluggish and very ignorant management style.
Payments are very often messed up (underpaid of course) and it's quite complicated to work out how they pay when viewing the payslips.
It's alright for those who have no career in mind and have no ambition but are happy to serve with a smile even if being treated like a child. Okay for elderly people and retirees also.
Nothing for people who are well educated, smart, ambitious and like to be treated with honesty and respect- don't even bother applying.
The amount of lies I and many of my colleagues have experienced in that company is just disheartening. You are promised a lot but once you're in, things change. Constant staff turnover and management changes don't make it any easier.
Bullying is a daily problem in some areas and even though some staff try to help, management simply does not care, it's all about profitability, nothing else.
I was told by my supervisor that "they" (managers) absolutely don't care about me or my colleagues or any of our problems (work related) as we are just numbers that can easily be replaced at any time.
As a normal staff member you are not allowed to speak to management but address the supervisor. Should you or your colleague ever be bullied by your supervisor, don't even bother trying to get the manager's attention- they will not give a stuff about you as you and side with the supervisor as you are much easier to replace being "just a number".
For fairness sake I will say that it may be different in different states, but in QLD MSS is simply NOT a good company to work for until they start caring about their employees better and develop a genuine mutual respect for their staff.

This job involves some night work so it can mean many hours of lonely patrolling  but on the upside it means a cooler environment.
The day work is busy and the clients make for an interesting day.
I have learnt that my skills as a security officer and my instincts as a father have stood me in good stead while helping the clients to achieve a better life.
Management have a tough job dealing with all the safety, health and duty of care issues so they can be excused for any inconveniences they may make.
The co-workers are mainly a happy bunch and I have a few good friends among them. Obviously being shift work we don't get to see all the others on a regular basis.
There are many hard parts to this job due to the location of the detention centres that I work in. Its easy for me to see the comparative likeness of me missing my home and family and that of the clients missing any home and family that they have left behind. Then there is the distance I have to travel being FIFO and the extreme temperatures I have to put up with but after doing it for the last four years maybe its not so bad after all.
Any job we do has to have some enjoyable aspects about it or we will all go stark raving mad. I spend quite a lot of time at work helping people from different backgrounds and cultures go about their daily life, this is not just the clients but co-workers as well, so I am quite privileged to experience many things which an office worker or a factory worker or even many, many people in our city's may never experience. I wont mention the good money I earn or the big lump that the tax man takes so consider it NOT SAID.

Cant believe I still work for this company. If you have good communication and literacy and can hold a conversation don't work for MSS. If you are brain dead, have no initiative, ambition or cruising to retirement and are happy to live with ever changing goalposts then they are the perfect employer.

I have worked hard, have lots of experience completed a significant amount of training but cannot even raise a response to transfer applications away from a very basic job. I am told by MSS HR and Management that external applicants get first preference (WTF !!). The recent Vic & Tas EBA was a whitewash where some existing sites were classed as new so wages were kept down - and the marshmallow union agreed ??

SOP says you cant communicate directly with the client but the client demands it or you are removed from site. MSS want client money so won't defend guards. Supervisor wants a job with client so does their bidding. 4 week Rosters come out on last day of roster so no advance notice. Only benefit is at least MSS still pay overtime but you get rostered directly from days to nights to days with no concern of fatigue. Then MSS crack it when you point out you cant work 72hours in a row.

Stay away

Supervising a team of up to forty officers at any one given shift and up to sixty officers on public holidays. Prior to start of shift was briefing to officers on safety and on roster placement of duties ie; train riding services or fare gate monitoring. During the shifts were to inspect and welfare checks on officers on allocated locations and stations. The experience I gained in this position was immeasurable in knowledge and experience in the security industry. The MSS Security management was always very supportive of new initiatives and ideas especially in safety. The most challenging part of the position was filling in vacant shifts especially on public holidays where at times would leave certain trains or fare gates unattended. This posed to be a massive challenge for management until a resolution was found. this was a great position as once again the best part of this role was offering customer service to passengers utilising the rail network.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management from state right down to contract need a complete over haul. Boys club gone bad. Fining themselves a bad reputation in town and other company’s are now benefiting from season guards that have left MSS and moved into other roles with managers more willing to put staff ahead of their own needs. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic. State management don’t discipline physical and verbal abusive and bad behaviour from work colleagues and contract managers. Please explain letters are handed out as a way to generate reasons to build a stronger cases to dismiss whistleblowers. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Ticking box’s and managing KPIs for management rather then public safety and client relationships.

MSS Security management do not care for you. Have talked to colleagues present and past and morale is last on the priority list at MSS. Revenue Protection is terrible, FIFO Security has been a better experience. I had to quit though as MSS Security contract managers don't like releasing you for another contract of the company's, they'd rather you leave the company as myself and others have had to do. Leave accrual and Superannuation are a joke. Had to work 7-8 months FT to accrue enough leave to take 1 week of dayshift paid in full in their FIFO contract. Super is only paid on first 38 hours of the week. I do about 80-90 hours a week then have a week off........ not so good for future me.

What training?

Expect the worst penalty rates too. None for FIFO and poor when I was a Revenue Protection Officer.
Would not recommend this company.

I was sub-contracted through MSS to work as an all-purpose guard for the Commonwealth Games for several months.
While not an ideal representation of MSS Security's workplace culture, I found that their administrative teams are very good at what they do as I did not experience any of the issues that are well known to have plagued the overall Commonwealth Games Security workforce.
Yes, the hours are long most times, but that's security in general.
A 12-hour shift and a 4-day on 4-day off roster are normal for the entire security industry in Queensland.
I can't say that there was room for career progression as my time with MSS was already finite due to the sub-contract situation.
However, I learned a lot from my time with them and I would work for them again at any time.
The people at MSS Security are very thorough, professional and conscientious of their responsibilities to both their Clientele and their Staff.

Started shift patrolling the metropolitan area of Sydney and found that very rewarding and sometimes challenging due to the various suburbs patrolled

When I was promoted to the Control room, computer skills were learnt , monitoring alarms and alerting the relevant patrol officers to respond to the premises and re set alarms 

Management were very supportive in my role as both patrol man and senior radio operator

Co workers were friendly and professional  in all aspects of the job and we all worked as a team both in and out of the job

Hardest part of the job, particularly in the Control room were the electrical storms as they caused numerous false alarms which had to be acknowledged and then responded too

Most enjoyable part of the job was the camaraderie within the team and working for such a professional company

After accepting extra work, I was removed off the app that allows us to get to work. Attempted to contact head office for a month. Nothing. Contacted Management on site, they told me I had quit to my surprise, I told them this was not the case and they did not believe me. Was truly one of the strangest exchanges I've had. 12 months later I received an email telling me I was fired for not doing any shifts, responded pretty quickly informing them of the situation. They apologised and offered to help me find a new position with them. I declined saying I had handed my licence in over how I was handled at this very company.

I have worked the best years in my life with MSS , all my days was happy days even with the hard shift work and I have good management to understand all our needs , even the co-workers I managed to go with every one in good and bad , but the hardest part of the job is when the client moves to another state and we have to move to another site and the management can't fined work for all of us , I enjoy my work all of it not part , my job is my live ( thats after my live out of work time though ) .
I loved the Security work even more than eny other field , but work is work no matter what , I have been working for 37 years & last 19 years worked in the Security so I enjoyed the work and my job .
