Lightmare Studios

Every Tuesday a large group of trainees would work from 9-5 completing various tasks, finishing all dependencies needed for the certificate qualification. We learned many skills in the IT and gaming industry, and learned to deal with the long hours we were not used to. The management team were fantastic, always willing to lend a helping hand to those who needed it, despite having their own plates full due to the busy schedule of a then soon to be released game. I did not personally find much in the role to be too demanding or tough, and enjoyed my experience there. I learned a lot and enjoyed the environment created, and using our creativeness and ideas and applying them to something worthwhile was incredibly self-satisfying.

A typical day was just modelling and prepping 3D Assets to go into the new game called Infinity Battles.

I learned how to work in small groups and how to be a team leader in the middle of that, I know how to work a 3D modelling program called Blender and also Photoshop.

The management was actually pretty good with them checking if we were doing our work and making sure we got paid.

The most enjoyable part was actually the hardest part, which was really cool.

Working at Lightmare Studios for only 6 months (duration of my traineeship and Gordon certification) already made me believe this place was incredible and serious about setting up young people with adequate skills and practise to move up in the world of game design and even into things like movies and production. The following university course takes the traineeship just a step further to really get some hands on experience into the desired field. The team there are all so supportive and never leave you hanging and create an incredible work environment that you keep wanting to come back to. Was very sad to have to leave Lightmare Studios

A typical day at Lightmare studios involved receiving tasks and completing them by the given deadline. I learned various techniques in manipulating sound and images, as well as 3D modeling and CIPP management. The management of Lightmare Studios was good, and they were quick to help the trainees when an issue arose. I was already acquainted with many of the trainees at the workplace, so relations were good. The hardest part of the job was probably sitting down in the same uncomfortable chair for 8 hours without much pause. The best part would be the freedom when you had finished your assigned tasks.

it was a pretty lame experience, a waste of time. The company has little direction and my internship was basically a test run. If you get offered an internship my advise would be to decline. It was rumored that no one who did the internship got a job offered to them. Bail.

Essentially you where given a number of specifications to which you where to create your assets, and then where left to do the rest yourself. Then all you had to do was pass quality controll and you where good, it was a pretty fun job just wish the location was a bit better.

as i was doing a paid traineeshhip, i was required to produce certain task by a set deadline, but even then they were very flexible and gave you an extra week to finish off the e.g. 3d animation, concept art etc.

Great company, their traineeship program is absolutely fantastic for any highschool student wanting to have a chance in the game design industry, they do a great job in teaching you all the basics and help you along the way to becoming a great digital artist

Log on into work, learned a variety of design and important decision making every week. Everyone was friendly, some more than others. Overall friendly place and everything was able to go smoothly through self management

Since it was my first traineeship I was very nervous, but once I saw the content of it I became very interested and even excited. The main goal was to design game characters for a mobile game, amongst other modules to complete.
Overall I'm very satisfied with the course.
