We work 10 hour days on a 26 days on 9 days off roster. In my time at Leightons on the gorgon project I have worked in various roles for the electrical department. A typical day would consist of a pre start meeting to discuss what happened in the previous shift and any safety issues or concerns anyone in the crew has followed by stretches to prevent injury during the day. After that we would collectively plan the days work assess any risks that may occur, adjust our Job Hazard Analysis, complete a "take 5", prepare the job and carry on with what ever job we are doing. I learned that with a good team working together anything can be achieved and on the other hand if there are people in the team not willing to do their bit things are a lot harder to achieve. The management on the project were under a lot of pressure. I put in the effory and worked hard so I got on great with them, others not so much. When working away from home for long periods its like a home away from home. Your co workers are your family and we sort of lean on each other to get us through the tough times when we are down. After all we are all in the same boat. The hardest part of this job would have to be the humidity in the middle of summer and the most enjoyable is being able to go home to my family after 26 days and seeing their smiling faces at the airport.

Start the day with a pre-start meeting, jobs for the day, stretches, sign on to standard daily JHAs then check that the job for the day is covered on those JHAs (otherwise re-write a JHA to cover the work being done have it checked and signed off by upper management). If more than one on job have a talk about job to be done do a take five if needed isolate machine chook wheels and release all stored energy, when everyone is happy with the set up start job. Anything new or different to job photo or write up information for records enter to the system. Have smoko make sure job is clear of hazards to workers do a take five check with team restart job, have lunch after lunch have a five minute refocus check job is clear of hazards do take five start job, end of day clean up pass on information of job (if it is being handed over to night or day shift or left for other team members to finish) write a quick information tag with out of service tag remove personal lock and put tags on lock out sign off JHAs.
Hardest part of job to me is keeping an eye on team mates with out them thinking I am over powering them.
The most enjoyable part of a job to me is knowing its been done right first time with my team mates going home the way they came to work that day.

In my capacity as Boilermaker, I carry out the following tasks:-
 Taking care of maintenance, repairs and fabrication of equipment to aid the gas gathering operation for the mechanical and electrical team.
 Responsible for the store, set up to supply PPE, tools and equipment.
 Selected for the Hydro-testing team to pressure test pipe work through-out the water treatment plant.
 Pressure testing - carrying out testing on separators, upstream and downstream pipe work and instrument lines. Carry out repairs (when required) and retest. All data recorded and documentation submitted.
 Quality control – inspecting well sites, evaluate and carry out any maintenance prier to final inspection and subsequent hand over.
Management and co-workers are extremely good to work with, having a good focus on safety.
     Throughout my employment with Leighton’s, I have been involved in the IIF (Incident and Injury Free) program, adopted by Origin, as a presenter to all employees on this project. I have also been instrumental in organising social events and a music group, raising money for local charities. IIF is a “mates for mates” program.

I wake up at 4am, get myself ready and go pack my crib for the day. I then catch the bus to work, getting there a bit early to give me time for a coffee. I srat work at 5.30 am, where i go and do the pre checks on the vehicle. My self and a work collegue then go and get the permits for the days work. We head back to do our pre start with the rest of the group. 
Once thats done and everyones been allicated there jobs for the day. I help them load the ute and transport there materials to there jobs. IE tools or trailers.

If im  not driving the ute that day, im a TA for the mechanical fitters. We install bungs and flanges to check the pipes that have been installed are not leaking. Going down man holes. Wich you have to be VOC on workin g on heights and confined spaces.. Radio in to the security to let them know if and how many people are entering the man holes.

After working for Leightons from 2011 to 2015 on 3 different sites including BSO project as a compactor and excavator operator on night shift, APLNG as allround operator and leading hand and Barrow Island as excavator operator. I found the company to be very good. Money was good, supervisors were good and management were good. Working as an operator and leading hand i was always looked after by my supervisor. It would take time to prove myself but once a trust was earned my supervisore would always allow me to give my opinion and have trust that i would complete my tasks always on time.  believe the only problem within the company is the minority of workers tha complain non stop and dont appreciate the fact that leightons are paying them good money and give the worker pretty much what ever they want.

I worked with Leightons over 2 partial projects. In this time I seen how key personnel in positions they were filling could be detrimental to the role of others.

I found upper management in Perth to be delightful and friendly, but site based management were less than suitable.

I feel the issues were derived from having a rather competitive nature within the teams makeup to aim for higher roles and shoot for better jobs etc, this caused a large amount of infighting.

On the positives:
- Had fantastic vehicles and equipment for use on projects
- Good camps and accommodation
- good PPE and tooling supplied
- Flights were all Qantas
- highly organised site admin - makes the little things so much easier like flight changes etc.

The living facilities were always clean and tidy with friendly approachable staff and nourishing food. The transport to and from the job site was always on time. The prestart meetings were informative and productive. Management tried their best to keep everyone happy while attempting to meet completion dates under sometimes adverse conditions. Some of my co-workers were brilliant to work with. The less experienced ones were eager to learn. 
Our crew did the night shift. The hardest part of the job was preparing the job site to start work after day shift, who did not seem to have the same pride in their work. Sitting in the crib hut when there was no work was painful. 
The best part of the job was the roster 5/5, although 7/7 would be better. FIFO from Moranbah was first class. 

I was a Grade 8 student when I started working there. The experience was great because my school friends were also working their and it was the only convenient shop in that small town. Lot of the workers new each other which made the job enjoyable. Every team member contributed has a team to all the aspects of the work. I personally didn't face any hard situation but there were sometimes were I witnesses my friends in contact with customer complains. Everything in the shop was organised from the workers to the products, all were managed to an acceptable standard. Overall the job I've been doing as a team member was a good experience to help me in my customer interaction and evolved me to be a fast and efficient worker in given task.

The majority of my days with Leighton Contractors were long hours however in the main rewarding. I believe that I was lucky to have very good Managers to work for who passed on their wealth of Management Skills to myself and suggest that the No.1 would be to treat all co- workers as people and not numbers.
Given the majority of the jobs were mainly Major Projects where the hours were 12 to 14 hours and mostly 6 / 7 days per week and were Interstate  which did not allow a great deal of time with my family.
During my time with Leighton I was fortunate to form some really great friendships and achieve great  job satisfaction on the majority of the projects.

Superintendant,Senior Supervisor are the very good example to work with.They know the need of everyone that work under their supervision.
We help each other out most of the time while on site and socialise after work at the camp
The hardest part of the job is to manouvre the truck while driving to deliver the material as the work area getting tighter and tighter.We used a spotter in front and back of truck to spot us to ensure that no one hit the pedastal for the module stand.Once hit....you get window seats.
The site is very strict.Smoke in allocated area,cannot walked at the beach during RDO.Write 4 "TAKE 5" everyday.
