A typical day at work would be in the morning we would tidy the store, see if we need to restock etc.
If i was opening the store in the morning i would prepare the tills, do stock reports, refill reports, banking. During the day if calls came in i would answer it could be a customer enquiry or another store calling wanting to do a stock transfer. Deliveries would come in i would except it into the system so then we could later mark off the stock and be able to put it out on the floor.
And when it came closing we would tidy up the store, then i would close the tills and do the counting and do a store summary report and enter that into our log book for reference to see how we did for the day. Once done then i would close up the store and leave.

What i have learnt during my time at Kathmandu do was learning different software, working in a different industry and gaining experience in being in a role as 3IC as i never had previous experience, Kathmandu gave me an opportunity and were willing to train me and give me the experience that i have always wanted in a 3IC role.

I loved working there i had great Managers and the staff were amazing, The managers and staff were quite supportive.
I guess the hardest part of the job was time management. The managers were so supportive that they would help if the job got too much and i did the same for them if they needed any help.

The most enjoyable part of the job was learning something different, gaining so much experience and knowledge while working at Kathmandu. And also working in a friendly team environment,

The reason why i left my job was because i am looking for work in Melbourne full time.
And it was not what i was looking for. I loved my job but i feel i need to be more challenged in my next role.

If you're young and looking for a great place to advance your retail and customer service skills - this is the perfect short-term training opportunity.  Youngest ages they'll hire are 18/17. Usually they're after 20-28yos. If you love the outdoors even better!

Note however, if you have rent to pay or bills - consider only going casual at this company and having a second job if need be. This is because the part time rates are relatively low at around $23/hr. Casual rates are around $26/hr. They'll try to lure you with the sweet part time roster. That is a trap. They'll make you part time but the rosters are almost always all over the place, and treated casually. 

If you land a casual position and start getting part time hours, they'll offer you part time. Do not accept until you have looked at the minimum part time hours in the contract, as well as how the change in pay will affect you - makes a huge difference in your pay. This all changes in management roles however - although I've heard complaints from every 3ic and 2ic I've known at the company that the rates are still relatively low. Kinda accidentally saw the managers pay though and man that was pretty sweet - so if you're going for a manager role it might be worth it. Must be nice. 

Excellent customer service, with a strong focus on kpis will be expected. 

Customer base are generally quite interesting. 

Constant talk of mismanagement between a variety of stores in different states. 

Dog/ pet friendly in most stores with public/ street access is great. 



On the first few weeks when its coming to sale period, which was around my first day the hours were okay, there werent as much as i thought it would, but it was okay. 

Due to sales being lower than expected regional manager decided to cut down hours. I though as part time employees i will not affected as much, i was wrong i have to somehow survive on 3 hours a week with part time rate.

 With the current inflation i can barely even buy my self a grocery, let alone pay rent. when confronting the manager about my situation, they might be listening but there are no improvement. 

the store manager cant have control of how many hours we will get, they will just have to make do with the budget hours they were given, and it not nice to put all this blame to the store manager it self. 

and the store manager tend to have the habit on sending a very long text as well instead of talking face to face. 

in the end when i decided to prioritized my casual job because i wasnt getting much hour, they started questioning who am i loyal to. 

what i have noticed is that more of the senior worker would get more hours comparing to the younger workers, doenst matter whether they are new and barely trained or have been there for a while. 



Work there for about a month,
Find out later that I have breast Cancer,
I have let my agency and the Management knows regarding this.
First, they said they will supports me.
I was so hopeful, thinking at least I dont have to worry about financial too.
But those words were meant nothing, they keep putting me on the hardest jobs, PACKING, where I have to keep reaching from the top n bottom Chute.
It puts pressure to my already pain chest.
Not once they offered me an easy jobs, such as packing for online.
Instead they warn me about my Packing Kpi, which is 42 per hour.
I was feeling sick, so 35 was not so bad right.
I guess thats how they want me to quit on my own.
I forgot to bring my pain killer, n my nauseous through the roof as well, so I went home early, few hours later, my agency call me not to bother coming back to work for them.
How understanding!!

What is the best part of working at the company?
I worked as a Picker on the Tugger after a few weeks picking the odd size items for stores and for online orders I enjoyed that because I didn't have to walk as much lols.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part was not having the stock needed for the orders then having to put them orders aside and wait for the Replenishment team to stock up the Pick face's 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The people there are nice some not so nice but overall everyone helps each other out

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Pick and Housekeeping doing little jobs here and there

The people that work here at a lower level are generally amazing.
Having worked at many locations over the years, management staff can be hit or miss. They're either great leaders who try their hardest to maintain a happy, healthy, positive work environment or they are unsupportive and add unnecessary work and stress to your day. Head office staff are the same, however I will say that it seems that the newer team coming in are much more hands on and helpful. 
Progression is possible, however it does depend on your standing with certain upper management.

Nothing worth mentioning other than the company lets customers step over & disrespect employees like in many retail settings, which is discouraging, not protected, and hard work was appreciated mostly in words.

Massive greenwashing

A lot of half truths, deceits, mistakes from many Sales advisors/Managers/Marketing pitches who do not have relevant experience (hiking, traveling, camping) or just want to push for sales rather than admit they need support unless the manager pushes for that integrity.

I started working at Kathamandu in early 2022 and was a casual employee as I had other things outside of work I needed to do. However, I had so much available that I was neglecting my other job, it was annoying when you had a shift rostered and then they said don't bother coming in as it isn't busy. So you would end up wasting a whole day when you were meant to work. I hated the culture as the management was very judgmental of all their customers and stereotyped everyone, it was an absolutely disgusting behaviour. 

Such a Great Company. Really value employees & have great staff incentives & competitions.
If you love to travel & love adventure. Can think out of the Box & love Customers & talking about their up coming trips & lifestyle, then you will love it here.
Typical day is opening & making sure store is tidy & refilled on all products & sizes .Receiving stock & processing. Signage & ticketing is out. 
Staff are motivated & trained with  great online Modules & in store & hands on training. 

Most enjoyable part of the job is seeing Customers come back & tell you how amazing there holiday was.
