I’ve worked at Jetstar for 3 years and counting. The job is demanding, challenging and exciting. Each day is incredibly different from one another which keeps the job exciting year after year.

The company as a group does a lot to look after it’s staff but I think it’s often lost along the way. It’s hard to say bad on the company but also hard to say good sometimes. I’d say they’re somewhat average in terms of management. Depending on your situation, the way they deal with you can be very very hit and miss.

The staff travel benefits are incredible. Prepare to travel the world in style, spontaneously and quickly on your days off - or enjoy a round the world trip in business class during your annual leave.

The money is in penalty rates. Weekends, overtime etc. The roster is online so we can swap instantly with others and see who is eligible to swap with us, meaning as a part timer you can easily manipulate your roster to get up to ten days off in a row without taking leave (working 2 days a week, 10 hours each at the start and end of the rostered fortnight). This makes it awesome for that 3 day trip to Bali or even a trip to Europe. One of my colleagues went from Sydney to Zurich for a theatre show during her 3 days off.

As a Customer Service Manager for Jetstar Airways I have enjoyed so many aspects of job satisfaction throughout my career. I have a passion for excellent customer service and exceeding customer expectations that provide customer delight. I enjoy leading a team of cabin crew in a positive and enthusiastic way with a very high regard to safety and service standards. I have been involved in OH & S for a number of years which required attending a course and monthly meetings. I often chaired the meetings. I am an onboard trainer of Cabin Crew and Customer Service Managers which provides me with a great deal of satisfaction. I have extensive airline industry experience both within Australia and Internationally. Customer Care and satisfaction is a priority to me and I achieve exceptionally high levels of this. I have had great feedback from customers and fellow crew members and this inspires me to achieve even higher levels.

I was hired to do this job and not told that I was only a stop-gap until it was outsourced. My KPIs were continually increased every time I exceeded them until they became totally impossible to reach, and this was then used as justification for letting me go without notice. The same was done to every other person in the same role, and this happened at the same time as a group of people in Manila were hired to do the same job, only they were allowed to meet much lower targets. I was also provided with minimal, ineffective training and then belittled for not immediately knowing how to do my job by my managers. So this airline treat their own staff just as poorly as they treat their passengers, avoid them at all costs.

A typical day at work would be to make sure all Standard Operating Procedures and conducted in an efficient manner.

You learn the different roles of each crew member as there are usually 4 per flight and you get to perform one of the roles at the start of each shift.

Management can vary as there are different managers each shift

Co-workers are very helpful and fun to work with, we all work as a Team.

Hardest part would be the traveling distance from home, different sign-on timing for each shift and getting used to high altitudes. 

Enjoyable part to this job would be to experience the takeoff and landing of the aircraft on a regular basis.

I have had the pleasure of working for a company where I have had the opportunity to meet new people, travel to places I never thought I would and further develop my customer service skills, emotional intelligence and time management skills. 

If you start out as cabin crew you will need to be very patient for career progression. If you are Australian crew, you will likely do a lot of 4 sector domestic duties which is tiring on the body. International duties are mainly allocated to overseas based crew.

Come in with a positive attitude and it will be a great start to your career in the aviation industry and open doors to other airlines if you wish to pursue international flying opportunities. 

anything could happen at the airport, can meet awesome people and help make their holiday or trip enjoyable to complete nightmare with cancellations and a disrupted passenger

you work in a team environment which can be enjoyable or when it is short staffed you feel the pressure and are pushed to keep going.

its always hard telling a customer they have missed their flight or worst being cant get them to their destination. 

but when you go out of your way and help people and see them genuinely appreciative,makes you feel satisfied that they walk away maybe feeling helped.

management can be tricky, inconsistent  mostly with causes frustration

Each day is different at Jetstar. There are days where operation would be progressing smoothly and then suddenly switch to absolute mayhem due to flight disrupts or cancellations.
As a Customer Service Officer you are constantly bracing for a dilemma or challenge to arise. Quick thinking, multi-tasking, prioritising, leadership, teamwork encouragement, initiative, whatever it may be, I'm ready to go in this fast paced professional working environment.
Being at the front line of a 'low cost' Airline and first point of contact i am constantly ensuring that every customer encounter is my chance to enhance customer loyalty.

Worked at Jetstar for 6 months on a contract role supporting the investigators/trainers in the Ground Operations Safety team.
As an employer they were quite good to work for but staff were under pressure to ensure that the airline provide the benefits as per their charter  etc but also showed great dedication to providing their services in a manner that that was as safe as practical for both their employees as well as their passengers. Was sad that the contract period had to end.

The review of Jetstar as a company is unfortunately low.     However,  I did love my career as a Flight Attendant,  I loved every duty and would do it again,  if my hours could be more flexible.  They work their employees too much with little benefit for overtime,  which I did frequently.

I am one of many that have had to chase up 12+ months of superannuation which they did not pay us.  

Also,  overtime was not beneficial.  

We had to do 17+ hour suties,  then just 10 hours break then another 17+ hour duty again.  

Very exhausting!
