I worked here for just over a year and its been plenty of ups and downs but mostly downs.

The good thing is if you get along well, and you sell a lot of product, and have a good ATV then your shifts will go up. It's the total opposite if you don't though.

The managers have favourites and they will pick and choose who they want to work and its obvious, the area management is a total nightmare though. The very high expectations and budgets are so unbelievably high it's almost impossible to make most days. There is a lot of gossip between workers and can always feel like a competition between who is the best and who is the worse and they make it obvious. At the end of the day they will let you know that you are just a number and easily replaceable.

They give Full Time, Part Time and Management roles to Christmas casual rather then actual Casuals who have been working hard to show that they can lead but bigger roles get passed down to people who are new because they are "easier to manipulate".

This is a job that i'll only recommend if you a young and just looking for a quick and easy job or a uni student who could use a maximum off 1-3 shifts a week. I have however made some really good friends here and will always recommend this job if you are oping to meet SOME nice people.

A typical day was cleaning and sorting out stock, serving and engaging with customers, completing any tasks given by bosses, folding and sorting any merchandise within the store. What I learned within the time spent at Jay Jays was how to work in a fast pace environment. Dealing with customers on a busy day was stressful at first but now the pressure is easily dealt with by staying calm and cheerful. I also learnt how to do my own research about the pros and cons of new products so it is shared with customers who are willing to purchase and to show I know what I am selling to customers. Management within Jay Jays is great! The management team always made everything fun which made working for them not feel like a job. They never failed to let us know how we can improve and they always notified us what techniques are better to up sell and how to be better retail members. My co-workers were easy going and we always worked as a team to reach our budget every week. The most enjoyable part of the job was the working environment, the positive vibes I receive from my customers and co-workers made me a happy worker to be working for Jay Jays.

regional managers make your job worse then it should be, They only care when your sales are behind or anything that effects them. the state manager speaks to everyone horribly, the upper managers don’t offer any real support. you are expected to constantly keep up with the promo changes, INSANE stock levels, constant tasks with minimal hours and if you fall behind on KPIs because of it you are scolded. If you call your regional/cluster they always make you feel like your problems are small and they always make you feel like they are too busy for you. When they do visits you are micromanaged and watched so hard you can barely breathe. It’s honestly horrible. If you want to be a manager here, expect your entire home life to be ruined because it’s so busy/stressful your life becomes Jay Jays. You will go home and just be stressing about your next promo change or running your store.

The in-store staff are great, but the regionals are enough to make this job a nightmare.

I never had a stable roster, my hours constantly were cut at the last second. Regional management don't give a second thought to how these cuts will affect their staff financially from week to week. I had two regional managers during my time; both were quite disrespectful and liked to micro-manage, even though they weren't very good with customers themselves. 

The job culture focuses more on driving a high UPT as opposed to ensuring customer satisfaction, thus meaning we were prompted to be overly pushy with customers which I saw first-hand as having a detrimental effect. 

In my induction shift at the CBD store, I was also conned into believing that I HAD to wear their products. In actual fact it was never on my contract that this was necessary. 

Even though I met great people in store and truly love interacting with customers, I would actively avoid working for the Just Group again.

I gained valuable insights into management and workplace culture, including how effective communication and teamwork are essential for building a positive and productive work environment. I also discovered the importance of leadership in motivating employees and creating a sense of purpose within a team. Reflecting on my experience, I realized that the hardest part of any job is often dealing with challenges like tight deadlines, high expectations, and unforeseen problems, which require patience, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. On the other hand, the most enjoyable part of a job is the sense of achievement that comes with overcoming these challenges and seeing the results of your hard work. Building good connections with colleagues, sharing ideas, and working together toward a common goal make the experience even more rewarding. Overall, management and workplace culture deeply influence both the challenges and the joys of professional life.

Work including greeting customers, helping them pick the right items, building a positive connection with the customers, helping with refunds / returns or exchanges. Explaining the current offers and discounts. 
Retail stores have a fast paced yet fun and rewarding work environment. Fulfilling your duties responsibly including meeting sales targets , maintaining store while also working as part of a team and helping other team members requiring assistance at the register or with customers helps create a more friendly and cooperative work environment.
Holiday seasons with exceptional offers such as during black Friday sales , christmas and new years can be busy and challenging, being fast paced, maintaining a positive attitude and believing in yourself and team members will help you keep on top of it.

Company is great and team members in store are hard working
Pay is good however....
Not enough consistency with visual merchandising in store- Excessive promo change overs for staff to be using productivity for sales, the dedicated customers and what is being asked of them. Customers complain about too much change around of  store layouts-Should be once a month change or once a season, you will find competitors using these techniques to keep it simple for their customers, so why aren't we? Lack of available store hours and budget to have the necessary support in-store during VM promo change overs. Excessive micro-management from Regionals. Let's Change this or

This job is probably best if you are a uni student or work another job. Also great for a Christmas casual role as you'll get good hours and the store is busiest that time of year.

Keep in mind, this is not a job you'll stay at for a long time. It's easy to get burned out. The managers especially work very hard to keep the store together, they don't get paid enough for the hard work they do.

my store manager is quite literally the only reason i’m still working there. there aren’t enough hours in my own store to maintain a proper income as a part timer, but whenever i go to pick up hours in another store, it leads to the regional trying to find a problem. 

they expect perfection, but pay minimum wages? no thank you. the work load some days is incredibly easy and simple. finding cover when someone calls in sick is always a 70/30 chance, you almost never find cover because nobody answers their phone and the company refuses to hire more people.

Every day was different. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of people and make new friends.

I learned how to close the shop after trading hours by my manager.I became more confident working by myself and as part of a team. 

The hardest part of the job was trying not to fall behind with scheduled tasks when it was a busy day, especially during big sales.

The most enjoyable part of the job was that I was treated with respect by staff and by every customer who walked into the store. I loved the atmosphere and could relate to customers.
