Whilst working for Iluka from 2005-2013 I went through three mine closures, survived the first, was made redundant on the second, received a good pay out and was screwed  on the last closure with a dodgy clause in a Fixed term contract, which turned out to be not fixed term. Don't beleive any projected mine life statements made by Iluka management as they have no idea of there actual sale volumes 6 months into the future. The company is now holding the market ransom to high prices and wont commit to long term supply contracts as there are chasing the $$$$$.  This leaves them open to smaller companies undercutting Iluka's price and limiting the sales volume . They promised us at least 3 years production last time around but only ran the site for 15 months, and didn't honour the "Fixed Term Contracts" they offered using a dodgy clause to walk away from there employee's.  Be careful when signing a contract with Iluka, make sure you have a propper fixed term or a redundancy clause as they are a company that will start mine sites for short term market rushes and shut down again as soon as the market cools,

A typical day at work for me is doing my usual jobs that I am required to do, which are checking printers and shredders, checking the bar fridge for drinks for visitors, making sure everything is tidy, sorting the mail bag and doing car pre starts.

I have learned a lot about this company, I also learned a lot about what people do as a job at Iluka. I learn new things everyday.

My co-workers, I don't see or speak to a lot because they are always busy and they are in different offices. 

The hardest part of my job is not having anything to do and nobody helping me, I ask for jobs and I also ask for help but I have to find things to do for myself which is quite hard.

The most enjoyable part of working here is meeting new people, some of the staff are quite funny and on Fridays there's a morning tea provided by two staff each week which is always good, because the food is delicious.

Daily duties included monitoring wet gravity seperation, handling reagents, pipelines,pumps minig plant and Control room ops. Interacting with Mettalurgist , management and contractors. A very high focus on Safety before prodution including take 2's,toolbox meetings,  JSA's, presarts, and site specific inductions as well as regular safety improvement projects. I learned many aspects of mining operations including stop & startup of plant, identifying defects and bottlenecks in the process,Data entry onto SAP and use of matricom. I obtained many qualifications including completion of Cert 3 in process operations. The most enjoyable part of the job would have to be being on a constant learning curve as different scenarios and situations arise on a daily basis.

Challenging but rewarding work environment, every day isn’t the same as the last.

Supervising the team for ongoing maintenance for the SR plant.
Workplace culture is quite good but management micro manage far too much. The hardest part of the job is the politics that comes with the business. Other than that its a great place to work and a great bunch of people that work there in a production/team environment

At Iluka it is possible to get to know people right across the organisation due to the fact that it is a mid-tier miner rather than a major and this makes working with them more efficient and enjoyable. Communication of company results, progress and expectations is excellent - it is always possible to know what is important and to get feedback. However there is a crippling level of office politics.

Fun work place with supportive management. Not all about the numbers but how you personally grow and develop. Descent amount of red tape and policy's, but this is expected of a company of it's size.

I worked for HR dept and learned a lot of new things as big challenging. It changed my life and able to deal with people. It was hardest thing is SAP which I never worked before. In the end , I love SAP very much as it helped myself how to solve problem successfully.

Work was good but instances of bullying made the site disappointing.  Laboratory was a converted transportable with poor power supply and inadequate air conditioning, effecting the tests.
